I've done a lot of different drugs, and even after doing lines and lines of meth, smoking a bowl of weed, eatting 4 norcos, drinking beer and downing an energy drink my heart never felt like it did this morning.
I took 100mg of strattera and was running late to class so I ran to it, sat down and my heart was pounding I felt the rhythem of my heart .. and I literally felt it start to lose its rhythem like the beats weren't consistant a few times ... idk if its normal ir not but idk if I should continue to take it..

That doesn't sound good, I would contact your doctor on Monday and tell him about the adverse cardiac reactions you're having.

I'm not a doctor, and I'm certainly not your doctor, so I'm going to avoid flat-out telling you to stop taking your medication, but that does sound like an adverse reaction. My advice is to cool down on the other drugs and relax, talk to your doctor as soon as you can and be honest with him, he will probably want to take you off the strattera and/or put you on something else.

Best of luck :)

I stopped doing all those things a while back
that's y it surprised me that it was happening
but ya I will definately lay off this stuff I wonder if all adhd medications will react this way to my heart...
even now 12hrs later my heart is beating super hard and my stomach muscles are twitching ..

its adhd medication its supposed to calm me down and help me focus.. instead it puts me to sleep and pumps my heart harder than it should.. i need to get on adderall or dexedrine

Strattera (wiki link, check it) is an atypical ADHD/ADD medication, unlike the usual amphetamine (Dexedrine, Adderall, Vyvanse) or methylphenidate (Ritalin, Concerta, etc).

It's supposed to be less abusable than the more traditional drugs used to treat ADHD/ADD.

Stellar.Bomb, you may be experiencing mild withdrawal from the Strattera. Please, speak with your doctor as soon as you can, heart issues aren't something to be taken lightly. You're probably fine, but better safe than sorry if you ask me.

this is going to sound ridiculous.. but im afraid if I tell her about my heart issue on this low grade nonamphetamine then my chance for an actually amphetamine medicine is out of the question.. ya I know how it sounds...

Get off this stuff. Its almost useless. It fucks more people up then it helps. My friend got prescribed that and it took him almost a year to get back to normal. i took 75mg and had the heart thing you did and THE WORST ANXIETY!!! Im sure someone else will come along soon and tell you a better reason.

But if your honest and truthfull your doc should help you. If not i would go to another dr.

Exactly. Just because you're having heart issues with one medicine doesn't mean that you'll have heart issues with another one, even if one is just an NRI vs. a traditional amphetamine.

thanks you guys
ya I talked to my sister about my issue she thinks it was my anxiety and maybe me having a panic attack.. haha she's ridiculous..
Im going to lay off this stuff call my dr in a week n a half and tell her I gave it a shot and the side effects r worse than the starting condition..
that way I gave it "three weeks" and she can't say I didn't try.. lol
Im just so confused how an antidepressant can do what speed never did.. just crazy..

Yes, get off of this stuff ASAP. I was prescribed it for a year back in high school. Didn't help me concentrate at all, wore my heart out (My chest was constantly beating HARD) and it gave me EXTREME anxiety.

Strattera and I did not get along very well either. Concerta wasn't bad and I havent tried Vyvanse. What works best for me is just a low level of xr adderoll.

Definitely do not dismiss the irregular heart beat, especially when taking these kinds of medications. Tell your doctor. I always tell people to advocate for their own treatment when going to the doctor. Arm yourself with information. You have the world's knowledge at your finger tips. And remember the doctor works for you, you are the "customer" If you are not getting the treatment you think you deserve or need either find another doctor or file a complaint. But only do this after you have made it clear with the doctor what your expectations are.

I write my questions down in a little note book and then I research the issues and find out all the treatments available for that diagnosis. If the doctor tells me I have to something I don't agree with I say no. But with that no, you need to be able to have a plan B and that is where your research and personal beliefs and history come into play. The doctor should be taking that all into consideration anyways, but they don't always do that.

If you need anyone to talk to PM anytime <3

^I agree, just because Strattera is technically an antidepressant vs. an amphetamine, doesn't mean it can't cause anxiety attacks, panic, or chronic anxiety. It's not unheard of for people with ADHD to have issues with anxiety. If the medication you're taking isn't treating your ADHD and is causing anxiety, then you certainly shouldn't be taking it.

I think you're making the right choice by going the three weeks route. I know most of the time these things don't take anywhere near the three weeks they say they do to kick in, but at least you tried.

TINK is right, find the treatment that works for you. Your doctor is there to help you, and as long as you're honest with them and know what you're talking about, both you and your doctor can work together.

I'm an amphetamine addict, so I don't use them anymore, but I support amps as medications for ADD/ADHD. Worked well for me when I wasn't abusing them. Try DextroStat or Dexedrine. Smooth meds with minimal peripheral stimulation. Adderall is more physically stimulating than methamphetamine is in my personal opinion (if we're talking therapeutic doses, that is).

never heard of strattera causing anxiety or heart problems. when i took it it always mellowed me out. also are you perscribed 100mg? sounds like a bit much, as ive never heard anyone perscribed more than 80mg. if you want it changed you just got to straight up tell your doctor. telling her the side effects thing worked for me to get it changed

thanks for all the input you guys!
ya I've been taking it a week now almost and its just not good I think im going to request an appt after next week and tell her id like to be put back on adderall or try dexedrine because based on my research and what I've heard its definately something I want to try
strattera has officially made me a nap person
I agree with what you guys are saying about the dr needing to listen to what we have to say if I don't think she's listening im going to just switch drs

I've heard strattera is by far the worst add medication. The sooner you can switch, the less of that junk you have to take.

Exactly.

Most people here on Bluelight will agree that Dexedrine/DextroStat (dextroamphetamine) is the cleanest/smoothest amphetamine and best for both recreation and ADHD treatment, much better than Adderall.

Hope everything goes well for you man, and remember that information is power :)
