Opioids Strange tip for PAWS anxiety when you are alone...maybe?

Ok, so in December I quit poppy pods after only about 6 months of use. This lasted like a week and a half, when I ran across a "stash" I forgot about and decided I would indulge....Yeah I feel like an idiot now but damn the pull is strong. Luckily I just got VERY mild w/d symptoms - I don't feel it set me back too far, aside from the fact that I have to start counting clean days again :-(. I ran out of my benzo script (rather not get dependent on those anyway :-p) but I still get those flashes of either extreme anxiety or just that feeling like I'm wanting to jump out of my skin. I assume this is PAWS? Really that is the only symptom I have anymore, I am (again) a little over a week clean.

I work from home, so I am alone most of the day. My wife is gone most every day, so I spend my time on the computer working. Something I noticed, and I know this is goofy as all hell, but when I get that crappy anxious feeling, I'll put on some solid music and sing along out loud. I feel it tends to work best with fast music, as that's the speed my thoughts are running, FAST lol.

Anyway, two things:

- I think this MAY have some scientific backing to it, as singing has been shown to reduce stress: http://www.emeraldinsight.com/journals.htm?articleid=871806&show=abstract
- Has anyone else done this?

As a disclaimer, I don't believe people with EXTREME anxiety would probably get much out of this, and it's not an option for most people unless you want to be the lunatic in your office :-D. But if you happen to be in that position, its something that works for me that I thought others might benefit from.

EDIT: Mods if this is the wrong place for this type of discussion feel free to move it!

Speaking of music/songs, every time I have relapsed, for some reason this lyric block always comes up in my head makes me laugh...brings about how obscene the thought process can be..in my opinion at least :-p

"Let's get fucked up and die.
For the last time with feeling
we'll try not to smile
As we cover our heads and drink heavily into the nights
That still shock and surprise.
I believe that I can
overcome this and beat everything in the end
But I choose to abuse for the time being,
maybe I'll win, but for now I've decided to die."

I actually did this the other day when I was in my room. I had had a few beers and I too have just kicked an opiate habit recently ( 4 weeks). I found that singing queen and david bowie felt awesome! I would definately say try it out.! I usually play guitar or another instrument but found that singing actually made me feel "Mo Betta" maybe because it requires more bodily engagement...I dont really know though.

Try it out and its good that you have reduced and are stopping your use!
