Strange skin patch post-injection

Hello, this is not my arm. I avoid getting my flu shots, so there is no way that I could inject myself with anything (not prejudicial to those who do, however) This is my friends arm. He has been IV'ing about a month and a half. He injects roughly 6-12x per day. Only heroin.

This skin patch appeared seconds after injection (with a burning sensation) - he IV'd about 5 units of solution prior to removing the needle due to moderately severe burning and the skin patch emerging. The skin patch is sore, it is not painful. He just wants to know what it is as he does not believe it is the result of an abscess.

I've had a similar reaction. Pic related, my whole arm swelled and was covered in hives, I couldnt even move my fingers. At first i thought it was the substance but later realized I may have hit a nerve. The reason is still beyond my knowledge but it's just hives and goes away within an hour. The pain was agonizing but after some dairy and time the swelling went down.

Title meant to say "strange skin PATCH post-injection" not past. not sure how to edit the title, oh well.. it is pretty clear what I was insinuating8)

Thank you for your response. I was with him when this happened (about 10 minutes prior to me asking the question here)
He did not have any hives nor was it a challenge for him to move his extremities.. Though the picture looks exactly the same.. I suppose it could be possible that something within the dope caused this occurrence? Not sure. Glad I only sniff, though that is bad enough in itself:|

Does anyone else have any insight..?? :D:?

They got it right. It's just hives, it goes away pretty quickly in my experience. I find it happens randomly but seems to happen more often when I use lemon juice with my mix. As you mentioned H there's probably no lemon involved. It should go away with little/no problem. Usually it is gone in less than an hour. It happens even if you hit the vein. (I don't miss much/often but have - it happens then too.)

Thanks for the information everyone! As previously mentioned, I sniff, so I'm out of my element. I'll relay the info to him promptly. Have a nice day ya'll.
