Strange benzo side effect?

After taking a higher dosage (1.5 mg and up of Xanax for example), it seems like nothing tastes like it should. It's very hard to explain. Almost everything, including my own saliva, takes on a different texture and/or taste. Can't quite put my finger on it. I can be hungry, wishing for something, get it, start eating it and it doesn't taste right. Anyone else have this problem?

I'm not taking any other medication at the same time as the benzo and it's happened every time for the past 6 years (since I first started taking benzo's), but only with higher doses than prescribed.

Awesome. Thanks for the link. I would probably have never found it. Anyone else that can share some wisdom?

Ok, going to read the suggested thread....

Back when I was doing 6-8 mgs a day of xanax. I couldn't even remember if my food tasted funny or not! Not that I would care anyways lmao. Xanax always make me not give a damn about ANYTHING

Lmao! I was like that when I first started using benzo's. I had a mean kpin addiction where I would lose 2 or 3 days at a time. My friends would come over to my apartment to crash or hookup after a night of drinking and I wouldn't remember. It's kind of funny (because I was having fun) but kind of not considering I was (obviously) in a bad place at the time. I can't get messed up like that anymore, have responsibilities now. Kind of miss being young!

Yeah exactly. I won't do anymore than 2-3 mgs a day now I'm always cautious not to over do it especially when my fiancé isn't home and I'm in charge of watching our son. Never know when you'll nod out especially dealing with a sneaky 2 yr old as well ha ha. Do miss being young too man, snorting 3 bars and shotgunning 24oz budlights. Good times (dangerous/reckless as hell) but none the less good times

Yup, just weird. Lol.

But I think it's just a really rare side effect because I had trouble finding any info about it, thus this thread. Also, my doctor didn't know anything about it, either.

It's not rare at all. Quite a few studies published in regards to benzodiazepines and palatibility with some IIRC claiming that they inhibit taste.

I get this side effect almost always on benzodiazepines, and on quite a few withdrawal support sites, they mention patients experiencing enhanced taste in food when stopping benzodiazepines.
