Storing Marijuana (merged)

I used altoid or other little tins for an eighth or less as long as it doesn't squish it.

If I were to have moved quantity I would have invested in a Vacuum Sealer. That shit will keep it super airtight with almost no air. It will reduce the smell greatly and it will keep for a long long time. My friend got locked up for 9 months and when he got out he had a big Kola vacuum sealed and it was still fresh as harvest time.
 
Big amounts I will probably try to store in a cold, dark closet in an airtight jar or something. Anything under 10 grams I will keep in baggies. It will be gone in a few weeks. But that`s because I usually buy big amounts with a few people, and it gets finished pretty fast.
 
I have a whole shitload of old glass jars layin around my place I used to make. Use a big piece of cork to open and close it. Glass jars are the best for storing grass.

I've heard that putting an orange or lemon peel into a bag of dry weed will make it more "fresh." Haven't tried this yet, though.
 
^dont put any fruit peels in your weed. it opens your weed for contaminates. itll mold quick. the whole talk about putting peels are uninformed people thinking it may be a good idea, and others passing the word around. just dont do it. if your shits too dry, smoke it anyway. to much risk trying to rehydrate it

to the original post..."potency" is an actual physical crystal on the bud. keeping it in a baggie versus a jar doesnt mean that the crystals have mysteriously disappeared.

i agree with everyone elses answer. if itll last you more than 2 weeks, put it in glass to keep it fresh. if itll be gone in a few days, theres no point in wasting time putting it in glass if it came in a baggie
 
you could in theory dry the fruitpeels, and put them in your baggie, maybe it`ll give off some flavour to your buds. I`m not going to try it anyway
 
Tupperware is great for a month or less, but remember it "breathes" so it will dry out over time.

Glass is the best way to go for longer storage, or freezing.
 
^^^ Has anyone else heard that or know the effects of freezing on weed? I tried freezing some gear recently and while it hasn't lost all potency, it doesn't seem as strong.

But it may be because for a week before unfreezing it I went through a gram of Dutch super cronic, which knocked me on my ASS with one toke. The old schwag is but a mild imitation (which, sometimes, is just fine).
 
Film canisters are great and cheap. if you don't buy much film, you can always go to a one hour photo place and ask them for some. the ones that i've worked at always saved them because lots of people ask for them. the best ones to get are the clear ones with the lids that snap into the top. they work great and they're free. can't get much better than that.
 
Freezing weed will make it lose some of it's potency. However, it IS a good way to take your weed interstate or such, I froze little 3 gram (Rolled up very tightly) portions into glad wrap, double wrapped it then wrapped three of them together, (3 each so we took an ounce between us)

No problems at all, I couldnt even smell it myself, there are these cool underwear you can get now too which has sorta a side pocket near your jewel area, so that makes things much easier :)

It smoked nice but it was weak and doesnt fluff out back the way it would originally. Cant complain though.

Anyway, I store weed for smoking in a bag, it's fine, it's not going to lose much over a week or so, but if you're storing for a week + then like everyone else has been saying, use something airtight like a coffee jar, tupperware (although if you put this inside a bag first, it will help protect it a bit more) and film canisters are great for storing mixes and personal amounts! :)

I reckon there should be a survivor: Weed, where you're dropped onto a desert island with only 2 seeds and u need to grow, and build a bong out of whatever you can find!

the can provide lots of munchies though :) :)

I get my deals in foil no matter how big they are. sure does keep the freshness and smell. If its gonna take longer than a week or two to smoke though.. I'll chuck the foil-wrapped weed into a big glass jar.
 
i recently found a little bag of my 1999 harvested buds in the freezer, and they were still great. They were stored in a airtight plastic bag in -18 deg.

I did do a search here and read through erowid and could not find a difinitive answer to my question, if i had missed something then i appologize in advance.

How long should somone keep weed for before it goes bad? is there more you can do to keep it smokable for longer? and how can you tell difinitively. Like i had beeen told 2 weeks if kept right, but how can you know how long your dealer had it off of the plants?
 
I think it really depends on a lot of things. Mainly the plant itself, some plants seem to dry out faster than others. Also try to keep your bag from getting too much air in there, I double bag mine with ziplocs and suck out the air everytime i re-seal. I've heard orange peels in your bag can actually make the herb stay fresh a little longer. Other than that i don't know any other tricks, i usually smoke it all before that point. You can still smoke the weed after its gone stale, just don't expect it to have the same impact.
 
It won't really 'go bad', but it'll get all dry and crumbly after a while, especially if it's not in an air-tight container.
I've kept weed up to 2 months though, and haven't had any negative consequences, besides being very slightly drier. Still smoked fine
