Stoners Explain Why They Prefer Crappy Weed

I see what you're saying, but I like to be as high as can be. That's the reason I smoke... being ultra high eliminates any negative feeling I am experiencing. I REALLY need to buy some herb asap as wds are looming in the oh so near future.
Ps I love me some Blue Dream. Back when I was slinging it was one of my better sellers. I loved it myself, but enjoyed Blue Cheese for daytime tokin'. Seemed a liiiiittle milder but still dank shit. The Purple passion was my nigh time smoke. Man there are so many great strains. Options are endless....there's something for everyone. The beauty of marijuana.

Totally agree. I preferred the good old outdoor grown green weed I grew up with to any of the modern hi-test stuff. We usually smoked it in a big spliff with a pinch of tobacco. It was super cheap. It seems like you can't find this kind of weed anymore, it's all neon green medgrade stuff. The few times I tried it over the past few years it left me panicky, paranoid, and nearly catatonic. Not for me. So I don't smoke weed anymore. I might do it occasionally if I had access to the classic stuff I had while I was growing up but then again maybe a lot of that is hindsight and nostalgia for my youth and a more innocent time with drugs.

And yes I think THC:CBD ratio has a lot to do with it. Who remembers the video where a lady was given each one (I.v. I think?) and had dramatically different reactions, the pure THC being quite unpleasant.

^ When I lived on the east coast, about 30 minutes from NYC, I enjoyed the weed around there. Mostly Jack Herrer and Sour D ("that medical for my allergies!" ;) ) I miss Sour D. There's a lot of really strong weed around where I live but it's mostly indicas or indica hybrids, like Northern Lights, Critical Mass etc. Once in a while we'll get a good pure sativa like Durban Poison, though.

I think there is a difference between "shitty weed" and decent good ole stress/schwag as we used to call it my high school days(late 90s early 2000s). When I was using MMJ it was almost always super strong and hard to function on. We used to refer to this back in the day as chronic here in SoCal. For me the cons outweighed the benefit during MMJ use. The price was hard for me to afford being on a fixed income, was hard to smoke and then go about my day and function, especially with small children to take care of. For me it was just too much.

Stress and schwag was soo much cheaper,, more bang for your buck and easier to function on
I miss it and were it still around for the same price I might still be using MMJ.

Out of curiosity, in parts of the country where marijuana is legal or quasi-legal, does the market for regs (what we used to call what I think most of us are talking about) or schwag (what we used to call a step down from that) dry up? Even if competitively priced? Seems like from what a lot of you are posting it's a shame. Economically of course you probably would turn a better profit growing midsize-to-large hydroponic operations targeting the high priced boutique customer space, and if this stuff is really what the medical patients and the kids want today, then who could make a profit selling stuff that's objectively weaker but to a lot of of subjectively better? Also, does "Mexican brick weed" still exist over there as a bulk but cheap commercial product? (Not that I ever liked that horrible shit, like I said while I was growing up all we smoked was what we would call "outdoor green weed," and a little later than that it was all B.C. buds/"beasters")

That eliminates the social aspect of smoking weed though.

Personally I love the conversations that flow as a spliff is passed around. Nothing worse for me than a room of stoned silence, with everyone plastered to the sofa in their own world. One could argue that if you want to be very stoned, why not just smoke more?

The argument for smoking more is kind of silly, of course if I have to smoke more to get where I want to be then I will. But, if I can save my lungs by smoking better weed then that is an ideal solution for me. I am a daily toker and I don't tend to get so stoned that I can't hold a conversation regardless of how much I smoke, but I realise many are not in the same boat.

To a certain extent I do understand and appreciate the social ritual of smoking cannabis, at the same time I don't really see why sharing a smaller joint is inherently less social. I mean, yes you are spending less time sharing the weed, but assuming you are hanging out with friends or at a party it isn't as if the conversation ends the minute the spliff gets tossed. At the end of the day, the point of smoking weed is the high, not the smoking.

You should try and source more sativa dominant strains, they tend to be less likely to put you on your ass.

True regs/schwag/stress does exist to some point here in SoCal but the price point just isn't what it used to be and not worth the cost IMO. Quality is probably comparable to regs but the price is still about 3.5 times higher than it used to be. Not worth it to me. As far as the Mexican brick weed, it probably still exists but I don't think any reputable dispensary would sell it. Probably available on the black market.

Just smoke less.....?

Many high potency strains have all sorts of different cannabinoids and different "highs".. Just don't smoke a whole bowl/joint. I just take one big puff and call it quits. Works for me, cheap and efficient. An ounce could last me months with that method

I'm going to open a dispensary that specializes in brick weed. You walk in and its the dirtiest looking corner store type shop. Lit with a real low wattage bulb that is just hanging from a wire. Customers come in and want to see a menu. I just hand them a piece of notebook paper torn out of a composition book that says "weed" on it.
a typical transaction will go like this
customer: do you sell weed here good sir, I am interested in purchasing some?
me:yeah
customer:may I see your menu?
me: * I hand him notebook page
customer: Hmmmm...I'll take 1 "weed" please
me: *I grab a few flat stemmy seedy buds off an ounce that looks like the corner of box. Rip a piece of plastic of a shopping bag and tie it off. I then use a lighter to burn the tie to hold it together.
customer: do you have anything to smoke out of?
me:* I hand the customer a roll of aluminum foil
customer: doesn't smoking aluminum foil give you alzheimers?
me: I thought you already had it? buy that shit and scram I'm busy asshole
me:* I pick up copy "barely legal teens:special halloween issue" (which is the only thing on the counter) and slowly start flipping through the pages

Thats how it would go at my shop...now i just need a name

This point makes sense. In this situation, all the different grades of cannabis would work. The schwag should be strictly for eating, but commercial would fit nicely. Good commercial has a lower strength overall. Low enough that you can smoke and function socially, but strong enough that with not too much effort, you can get very stoned. However, as drug_mentor pointed out, with top shelf, strong herb, the point is having the effects without having to smoke an excessive amount of material.

Since I have used cheap weed, great commercial, up to one hit recreational and medicinal marijuana, I just boil it down to personal reference. I would prefer High Times grade cannabis. I could always adjust my ingestion process to fit the situation, be it social in public, classical sessions, where everyone is chilling and talking, to out of my mind couch lock. Now a days, its use is social and pain relieving.

Side note. I had this marijuana that I knew simply as medicinal Kush from a certain state that has medicinal. I smoked a few hits and it felt like I had ingested an OC 80mg pill. That's one kind of cannabis that I like at the moment. It had a very clear head space.

Different weed will have a different effect on different people wont it. It's either my tolerance or just the quality of whats about but I cant think of any weed that I've ever had that was "too strong", too smelly not enough of a hit sometimes maybe but never "too strong" not with weed. I've had extract like shatter that was probably too strong for regular use if you value your lungs.

Getting a little OT here but what's up with that? Good shatter always seemed to tear my lungs a new one. I don't know how the dudes who sit on YouTube doing bomb shatter the size of slabs of beef jerky from 711 do it. Their tolerance must be through the roof and their lungs must be tore up.

Yeah dude didn't mean to sound OT. I'm just a heavy stoner. Your right those guys are nuts. Shatter is a now and again treat for me :)

I also wonder if it has to do with CBD:THC ratios. Personally I find that I much prefer strains between 1:1 to 2:1 CBD:THC. I can definitely relate to the sentiments in the article - I really just enjoy smoking, the social aspects, the ritual, the taste, but a lot of the strains around today are too much if I take more than a few hits. The high CBD strains give a more balanced high, and the CBD kind of smoothes out some of the less pleasant effects of THC.

I wonder if more "shwaggy" weed has a higher ratio of CBD. It's doubtful they'd be as high as the medical strains specifically bread to be high-CBD, but they'd probably definitely be higher than these modern strains that are ~20% THC with almost no CBD at all. I'm guessing a lot of shwag comes from genetics closer to the strains that were around before all these modern ultra-high THC ones were bred.

I sometimes feel nostalgic for the shitty weed I used to smoke in high school (early 2000s). I do remember it as a different high, but I also kind of think it had more to do with being a youngster. When we'd occasionally come across some primo stuff back then, probably some skunk or white widow or something like that not too far off from the strains available today, I enjoyed the high from that a lot more than the shwag I was usually smoking.

Those people have such a high tolerance that honestly they have gotten to the point where weed itself , no matter the quality, they get no effects. And their lungs do not enjoy it. I heard of a guy taking 1 gram dabs of the most potent shatter, wax ,etc. I believe there is a video of him taking a 3.5g dab, in a couple lungfuls, back to back. The same guy ended up in the damn hospital because one of his " hardcore" dabs ended up collapsing one of his lungs. If you know what happens to a glass dabbing rig, that's been used a lot, the residue or so called "reclaim" that coats the inside definitely is the same case in the lungs, but the lungs can clean themselves over time. I guess this guy had too much vapor which precipitated out in his lungs and the sheer volume and thickness of the hash vapor ended up being too much for his poor lung to withstand and he basically just crapped out. So don't think those guys are anything special. They have jacked their tolerance to stupid levels and I guess they like to show off? I don't know...

I like mid grade weed, when the time is right. I've been smoking for years and I used to smoke hash a lot, so as long as I'm not super anxious I enjoy a strong and potent bud when I smoke. I like the intense and unique flavor a of the smoke and the straight to the dome high does me good. I used to be incapacitated by too much strong bud but now I just mellow out hard. Nothing over the top really, unless I smoke hash or dab. That's a whole different ballgame. Hah.

^ Yeah, I abused weed in my teens and 20's with major bong use and low and behold I punctured a lung in the my early 30's. I wasn't nice at all, 12 days in hospital hooked up to some pneumothorax machine thing.
