Opioids Stomach-Tightness Relief?

Opiates are known to tighten / paralyze the digestive system. This is uncomfortable, feels like food is sitting eternally in the stomach, and can translate into nausea.

For me, the absolute worst stomach tightness is from Oxymorphone (Opana). During the second half of the high, and the ENTIRE next day, Opana (snorted) causes horrible stomach tightness for me, and it's nauseating and I feel like puking afterwords.

I've tried a lot to seek relief. Taking triple doses of Metamucil fiber, tums, Pepto Bismol, apples, hot water, with no success. What remedy has given any of you success with this problem?

Opiate receptors on Auerbach's plexus in your gut inhibit the release of acetylcholine which limits G.I. motility.

Loperamide is the poster child of these effects as it is not well absorbed by the body and passes well into the digestive system. Pethidine however is very well absorbed and easily cross the blood brain barrier so it may have more limited effects on the G.I. tract if you are looking for another opioid to try.

As for opiates in general I would think by dosing other than orally you will avoid the receptors in the upper GI tract better but apparently that doesn't work for you. If you want to try and stimulate acetylcholine then the first thing that comes to mind is nicotine (occasional smokers will tell you it makes them crap). Perhaps some nicotine gum or the patch might help?

^Caffeine is also another option that would stimulate gastric motility, although in a slightly different way than nicotine.

Not that I recommend doing this, but every time I take some kind of stimulant, be it amphetamine, cocaine, mdpv, or even high doses of caffeine, it really gets my GI tract moving. I take 75mg of methadone a day, and when I indulge in one of those stimulants going to the bathroom is inevitable.

I believe that this is simply because stimulants can speed up your metabolism, thus making going to the bathroom (urinating and crapping) much more likely.

Combining oxymorphone with amphetamines or coke isn't the best thing to do, so I am not saying you should go out and take 100mg of amphetamine or something so your stomach doesn't hurt. i am just sharing my anecdotal report of how stimulants effect my digestion/GI tract.

I use oxycodone daily (and if 'out' of that, replace it with morphine, hydromorphone... anything) and so have had to deal with this stomach/digestive problem a lot - for years.

I use slippery elm (I get it from Whole Foods), and currently 'Senna' because it's cheaper. Also, I use adderall on an almost daily basis - currently cocaine. I didn't realize how many opiate users also used stims (even if only for this reason!). If you aren't comfortable using stimulants to help you have a bowel movement and relieve your stomach pain - try a natural 'colon cleanser' or a supplement with slippery elm, marshmallow (weird, eh?), etc.

If you live in the UK there is a drug exactly for the problem you are having: Motilium 10 (domperidone). It is an antidopaminergic drug that really help with nausea, vomiting and bloated feelings. It helps the bloatedness (is that a word??) by stimulating the passage of food from the stomach and, to a lesser degree, the intestines.

It's a wonder drug for any daily opiate user, as it kills nausea by directly acting on the chemoreceptor trigger zone AND stops food from piling up in your stomach.

If you are in the USA, I'm afraid it isn't approved there, but you may be able to get it online

Thanks for all of these suggestions guys, however I would like to avoid any products that are psychoactive. I find mixing opiates with stimulants of any kind to neutralize my favorite aspects of the opiate high.

Hmm, this sounds promising, but I am in the U.S. If I order this online, is it likely that my package will be seized by customs? Also, wouldn't it's antidopaminergic qualities have a negative effect on euphoria?

It doesn't cross the BBB, the chemoreceptor trigger zone sits on the bottom of the 4th ventricle, just outside the BBB, which is how it works with nasty, nasty side effects

^Unlikely. It is approved in the US for use by breast feeding mothers. A prescription is required, though. I would worry more about getting ripped off by the website, than having it seized by customs. Ordering prescription drugs from overseas is risky business.

Here's a warning to pass on to patients who are breastfeeding their babies. FDA has received numerous reports of pharmacies compounding the drug domperidone and of lactating women using the drug to try to increase their milk production.

Domperidone isn't approved for that indication, and in fact it's not approved for any indication in this country. It's also not approved in any country for increasing breast milk production. (It’s been approved in several foreign countries, but only to treat certain gastric disorders.)

U.S. women using domperidone have been buying it from compounding pharmacies in this country, and also online from sources outside the U.S.

FDA is concerned that women may be risking their health if they use domperidone to try to increase milk production. There are reports of cardiac arrhythmias, cardiac arrest and sudden death in patients receiving an IV form of the drug, and in fact that form is no longer marketed.

Rabbit droppings

I am a long term heroin addict and I really have problems with my stomach. I am a skinny guy{thanks to smack} but I have a really bloated stomach, so much so that people often joke that I look pregnant. My stomach does not hurt as such but it is really firm to the touch.
My other problem is when going for a #2 I really struggle to go and the end product resembles small rabbit droppings.
Anyone know what I can do about the rabbit droppings and the firm bloated stomach I have?
Any help greatly appreciated indeed. Thank you people.

I only seem to have the most stomach issues with Opana, not really any other opis.
Stimulants have been the only thing that I've found to help me.... I don't even have to use a lot or enough to really 'feel' it.

Opiate/opioid Constipation

As for the bloating, that is pretty strange.. What kind of heroin are you using? Are you IVing it?

This is probably un-related but my Dad (before he died) had Hepatitis C, and since his liver was basically failing it couldn't process the toxins and whatnot in his body, so the ammonia was poisoning him to death. There was also another condition (I forget what it was called) that made his stomach get really bloated, because of all the fluid that had no where to go. I don't remember exactly.

It could be related to heroin use, especially if it is tar heroin. People tend to get sour stomach and whatnot from shooting tar. Sodium bi-carb helps reduce this.
