[Trigger warning: vomiting]

So I've been using Carisprodol (Soma) for at least 10 years now. I like it, it usually likes me. Anyway I'm real methodical with how I do it. I always note what days I take, how much, even what I've eaten that day - typical obsessive addict stuff. Anyway, something very interesting happened last night. Before I can get to that though, I have to establish my normal routine if I'm going to dose on a given day. First I will fast the entire day (except for maybe some light carbs) so that when I dose, it's on an empty stomach. 10 minutes before taking my dose, I pop several Tums antacids. Then I take my pills with a lot of water. The tums and water are meant to neutralize stomach acid. So far so blah.

So yesterday, I had a light lunch and plans to use later in the evening, assuming that by then my stomach would be empty by pill time. Well, that lunch did not settle well for several hours, and by the end I just said screw it and forcibly ejected it (it did not take much effort, that sandwich was wreaking havoc). I am not in the habit of making myself throw up, but I had been suffering for like 5 hours and enough was enough. Anyway I let things settle for maybe 10 minutes, then proceeded to take my Tums, wait another 10 minutes, and took my Carisprodol with a lot of water.

It should have been a completely normal high with the dosage I took - in fact, I took a bit less than I normally do. And I had just taken a larger dose 4 days earlier, so my tolerance was up. I like being buzzed, but not sloppy-drunk-stupid-stoned. And I figured with the combination of taking a below-average dose, combined with the fact that I just had a larger dose just a few days prior, I would be at most lightly buzzed. I was not lightly buzzed. I was far, far too high - I have some recollection of the night, and got to clean up after myself in the morning (nothing gross - just stuff left out, knocked over etc.). It was, in short, not a great night.

Which brings me to my point/guess/hypothesis: the intensity of my high had to come from the fact that I puked just before taking the dose. My stomach was completely empty of acid. I know, because I drank water after the initial vomiting, and the water ended up coming up again completely clear. (Sorry for the gruesome details).

Assuming I'm right... how the hell can I do a better job of neutralizing my stomach acid? I am not going to puke just to enjoy a buzz, that's off the table. But the difference in quality between "lots of tums and fresh water" and "no stomach acid at all because vomiting" was huge. And while I use Carisprodol, I strongly suspect the same may be true for almost any pill I had taken. Opiods or benzos, for example.

So is there a better way to neutralize stomach acid without forcibly ejecting it into the nearest toilet? Take even more Tums, and do it 20 minutes before I dose? Drink even more fresh water? For the record, my goal here is not to get MORE high. My goal is to achieve a nice, comfortable buzz with as few pills as possible. Which in turn means protecting those pills from my stupid stomach acid.

Anyway, that's the sum of it.
