The yellow brick road!
people call me crazy
so i just turn and politely smile.
they snigger and point
the cough and the laugh.
but in the end i will win.
i will be the one who puts up the fight.

my father calls me crazy
because i say "i never wana be a wife".
ive tasted freedom
i want for me the world.
nothing and no one can stop me
i will not be withheld.

you call me sexy
so for you i give a smile with my heart on my sleeve
my smile is genuine
and my eyes tell a story.
but call me crazy
and you wont see me in quite a while.

freedom can be dangerous.
at least you've learned that freedom is not everything.

well written.. i kinda feel that way lately... freedom is a great thing..

but love,.... TRUE love, i could never turn down

great work :D

I don't even understand the concept of freedom. I relate to it in the same way I relate to unicorns and good country music... it just doesn't exist.

as much as i feel a strong compulsion to do so, im not gonna hijak kels thread with a discussion of this. im simply going to say, you can choose. anything you do is always up to you. you can always walk away. you can always end it. you can always do what youre afraid to. there is your freedom. we have no limits but those imposed upon ourselves. feel free to bring up gravity(somewhere else ;)).

Just because this is a poetry/ short story forum doesn't mean it's not appropriate to discuss the things written about. :p And besides, Kelster wouldn't mind, would ya babe?

And you're right. Everything you do is up to you... however every decision you make is tainted with past experience and is directly related to your abilities or lack thereof. People who say 'you can be whoever you want to be' are fucking deluded. You can be whatever your talents allow but you can't always be exactly what you want.

And we aren't free. We'll never be free. However much we try to buck societal and familial expectation we will never completely do it. I'm not saying we all adhere to some unspoken social contract but our lives are, in the end, defined by our environment.

daria's mum: "you can be anything you want to be daria!"
daria: "i want to be the queen of brazil"

ok so theres limits, but i said we're free, i didnt say we're omnipotent.

saying we're never able to completely ditch the influence of others is shit. there are various methods sugested in a multitude of books that describe how to do this (most of them esentially drawing from the same principals in my eyes) and just because niether of us, or anyone else we know has had the balls to do it doesnt mean it cant be done. is everyone throughout history who has said "live in the moment" a scam artist trying to get our hard earned peanuts?

What if you went into an environment where nobody knew all about you or what you've done before, so you had no history and no expectations placed upon you? If you were prepared to remake yourself into a different person, wouldn't you be free to do so?

I know its a strange proposition, but you're saying we'll never be free and I'm suggesting that we could be free if we really wanted to. It's just that it doesn't come easy.

we have more than freedom.. we have emotion.

we have power, or lack of..

we have many things, as a whole... but indivual people may have nothing.. some people dont even have freedom.. actually alot of people dont.. but everyone has emotion. freedom is the most loved, and abused thing that we have tho. unfortunatley.

everyone has freedom. you cant take away someone access to thier mind and thier interpretation. its only bad (or good) if thats how we choose to see it.

up all night: nah i dont mind :)

what freedom do people in jail have?

their life is set for them, everyday.. they choose nothing.. free? how.

my step brother is in jail for quite a while...the way i look at that question is from a lot of different views...my step brother had a choice not to do what he did...but he didnt listen...so he ended up in jail. he stuffed up his choice...it costed him his freedom. :\

emotionally? he is as freee as he will let himself be. the bars and walls of a jail only hold physical freedom. its up to him as to whether it keeps him emotionally locked up.

first of all...awesome work!
really enjoyed it... was an inspiration and encouragement to the way I am also currently thinking. More people need to do what "they" want to do with thier lives.......... the world is full of people letting other people telling them what to do... no wonder we cant be free.

as for the freedom argument:

Too many people see freedom as a physical thing.... something that is controlled by our environment...it is not.

Just because you are in jail... it does not mean you are not free.
By that same logic... just because as a human you have the innability to fly or walk through walls you are not free.

Freedom is not a place...it is a state of mind.

I think the poem demonstrates this well.... true freedom is simply a concious decision to take action, rather than living your life as a victim. As soon as you stop letting your mind "react" to situations....and start making conscious decisions...you are free.

Freedom is a choice in your mind.... that is all.
You can make that choice at any time.

punktuality: wow. thanx for the words :)
