havent taken opioids in over a week. had a fairly large habit and could never stop in the past. the first two day off i used 1 gram of meth. 3rd day i did nothing but rode out the aches and pains which wasnt nearly as bad. day 4 did small amount of cocaine throughout the day. day 5 smoked herb. day 6 .2 g of meth once in morning and then a little vodka and halcion to fall asleep. day 7 .2 g meth and then nothing to fall asleep. day 8 .1g of meth and smoked weed all day.

now during this time i would get uncomfortable but nowhere near a full blown withdrawal. as expected the meth did slightly aggravage the anxiety and paranoia but only shortly. i was afraid of not being able to sleep but i actually slept each night. not much on days 1-5 but just enought to not give in like the past. now does this sound like im actually recovering from opioid addiction or simply drug replacement therapy?

youre simply covering up withdrawal symptoms, ive done it with adderall and xanax when lowering suboxone doses. rather than taking suboxone, i would take said drug for a day or two and my tolerance is significantly lowered.

still like to hear a little more input. i wouldnt say masking w/d symptoms just making them less severe. still in misery like a typical w/d but just tolerable enough to go seven days without opioids.

For me personally,IV amphetamines while in w/d takes my mind off the fact that I'm sick. And hey,if they took your mind off the sickness for the 7-8 days it took for you to go through acute withdrawal, then right on bro.

Just try not to replace your junk habit with a jib habit.

re

I guess im looking for a more in depth answer. Specifically, is my brain starting to produce endogenous peptides? I've read just about every post on every site and all i've found is conflicting reports. i absolutely hate meth and doing it almost makes me gag. but like i said here i am 9-10 days off opioids.

Gastrointestinal issues are just about ok(no more waterfall out of my ass). Chills and hot flashes are once or twice a day. Legs still feel like someone implanted bricks above my knees. Anxiety is getting better by the day. but PAWS is real and i can definitely feel the depression looming.

i've tried tapering/chipping with DOC, i've done methadone mt, tried c/t, tried tramadol taper which almost worked, jumped on bupe and got down pretty damn low(.1 mg ethanol solution) got injured and then back to square 1 and then some. I then began looking for other alternatives and then heard rumors of some doctor using desoxyn to treat opiate addicts.

I'm am not claiming that this is safe as elevated blood pressure and tachycardia are already present during opiate w/d. but it just might help someone who shares and addicted brain like mine. Also, the entire time i continued to lower the amounts of stims. This is the farthest i have ever went without junk in over four years. I think that addictions need to be treated on a personal level. Everyone has pre existing problems that usually cause the addictive personality to manifest. The disorders i have are anxiety, adhd, and depression, and bipolar.

The one negative that stands out is the coming off of the meth severely contributing to the PAWS depression.

Unfortunately you didn't find a breakthrough in treating opioid dependency or anything... you just find that shit (withdrawal included) is easier when you're high on something. Any kind of distraction can be helpful during opioid withdrawal because of how psychological they are and how the craving, boredom, depression, anxiety, etc. can exacerbate the torturous physical symptoms.

You might be able to mitigate some of the opioid withdrawal symptoms in the short run but the only way you'll likely be able to maintain your abstinence of opioids is by continuing to get fucked up on meth, coke, etc.

I often think that people jumping immediately to "don't use X during withdrawal because you'll just swap addictions" is inappropriate and unproductive because a short course of substances that mitigate withdrawal symptoms can be extremely beneficial in kicking a PHYSICAL habit but it looks like this isn't the case here.

People often fall into the trap of believing that they are "addicted" to one drug (such as opioids) and they're fine to use other drugs but this is just simply confusing physical dependence for addiction. Most people are more addicted to getting high, escaping, using substances to cope or WHATEVER than they are physically dependent. Its easy to taper a substance and deal with a little withdrawal but being an addict without substances IS. A. BITCH.

You might be able to quit opioids by using all these other substances to excess but I'm not sure that's preferable. If you're interested in truly getting off drugs, this is not the way to go about it. If you think that you can quit your DOC and just use other substances responsibly and sporadically then you're delusional (no offense, its just something most addicts believe and almost none achieve).

re

point taken. never said i wasnt delusional either. However, i wont be taking anything after today. Except, clonidine. So i guess we'll have to see how that goes. What's better an occasional pot smoker or someone who does anything he can to get his next fix of opiates? Oh ya i made a reference to a site where addicts claimed they were given desoxyn to help addiction. I'm not claiming that desoxyn is the same as meth or that i found some breakthrough.

I guess lets just close this thanks senior mod

^ of course smoking pot is less detrimental in many ways than using harder drugs (hence the distinction) but most people who have had problems with harder drugs can't go back to responsibly using a more benign substance. If people are able to control their use, most wouldn't let it get out of control but for those who have had their use (of whatever) get out of control, trying to use in a controlled manner almost never works out.

I'll close this since you requested it but if you'd like it reopened or if anyone else would like to comment, feel free to PM me :)
