Sticky brown DMT

I just when and bought some dmt and it's all sticky and brown. I can feel the stickiness through the bag. Did I just get ripped the fuck off? I usually get top notch white crystal..
 
it is probably not purified, very raw material, that is what my stuff looks like before I start cleaning it...some acacia extracts I have done come out just as you mention your stuff...yes I smoked it at that stage...yes it tasted like fucking shit
 
If it has the scat DMT smell..then it is no doubt DMT. The sticky red/brown sticky 'dmt' is the result of a dirty extract.

You can probably clean it up via an acetone wash, however, you can also smoke it as is. Just melt/vaporise when smoking...don't burn it.
 
Yeah I usually get that stuff when I heat the naphtha. Or if I evaporate instead of freeze precip. It works, it's just a bit harsher on the lungs than crystal.
 
That's closer to the DMT that T. Mckenna and co. used than the white crystals people use these days.
 
I find that orange waxy DMT is quite tolerable considering harshness. Perhaps brown is worse but effective vaporisator should still limit it.
Maybe no Mimosa Hostilis was used but something with a significant amount of plant oils. Too bad, clean it up or suck it up (literally :D ).

The first extraction I did I didn't heat the naptha and it came out ok. I read somewhere that heating the naptha would pull more goodies out, so I tried it in my second batch. Bad idea, really came out oily. I also used DCM because alot of the old teks highly recommended it. I think DCM pulls out too much wax from the bark imo.

Shit I need to replace my broken 2000ml sep funnel and try one of these new naptha and lye only teks.

Is that size watched?

But, a sep funnel makes it brain dead easy (for a klutz like me...dumb turkey baster....), that and a bruchner funnel with a vacuum aspirator for filtration. I had fun making my own vacuum aspirator.
 
Obutusifolia has some crazy alkaloids in it (such as 5meo)... the brownish or reddish stuff means that most those alkaloids have not been taken out - and they have the potential to make the experience more colorful and crazy and unpredictable.

Either the chemist knew what they were doing, and likes to keep those alkaloids in there, because its stronger that way, or they didn't know how to extract it cleaner. Whatever the case is, if it doesn't smell of solvent, its probably going to be decent!

However, the alkaloids in this sticky brown stuff often have a high boiling point, so you need to smoke it through a water pipe (a bong or freebase bubbler) to cool it down (a good idea anyway with DMT)

Alright cool. The guy who i got it off knows his shit, every other time i have had it from him it's been great so maybe he was just feeling experimental or something?

Always use a bong for it anyway so that will be just fine.

I think DMT may condense too easily in cold water, maybe one should use tepid or warm water instead. Even if you use a dry bong like I do the vapor can start condensing before reaching your lungs and enough people report a film in their mouth from it. (Searing hot vapor isn't a good idea either with DMT, that's too harsh.) Anyway no water for me, thanks.

I wouldn't use a ziplock bag for a separatory funnel, that plastic is probably too weak for solvents. Once I used a big soda bottle with a hole drilled and a glued tube, but it was way unpractical and I would have gone crazy if I'd actually used it more than once.
Now I got a sep funnel and I'm happy as hell.

No it's not. I've done it lots of times and never had a leak in the bag from the solvents.

It's a good method for someone who can't afford/acquire a sep funnel.
 
I wouldn't worry so much about leakage as I would about weakmaking compounds like phtalates, they can diffuse from weaker plastics like PE. Read this
You can count on it that solvents dissolve these phtalates (Those mess around with your hormonal systems which is a pretty bad thing.) even before you see corroded plastic. And that's not even the only thing, acidic and basic water is also used.
Phtalates are - I think - what makes a new-car-smell. Lol, you won't smell it in DMT since DMT also smells like new shoes or new cars!!

I get the poor man's teks. Really. But hopefully everyone using improvised equipment will come to realize the risks involved. Maybe there won't be enough phtalates to cause a big problem, then again maybe there will. Next thing you know there is harm done and you will be unaware of the cause. I've got mild health concerns and don't have any conclusive ideas about which of all those chemicals has been bad enough for me if any.

The one advantage I see is that you don't have the delema about not wanting to throw away expensive evidence.%)
