I need help, advice and answers. I started on Suboxone because was afraid of becoming too addicted to the Percocet I take for severe back pain. I have a severely herniated disk and nerves being compressed. I had no pain relief from the Suboxone at all (Shocker!) ;) I spoke with my pain management doc and he put me back on my percocet. The same day I got it filled I took one because the pain is so bad. However it felt like I only took the Tylenol. Since I didn't wait the recommended 24-48 hours after taking my last Suboxone before taking the percocet will I never have the relief or feel it working? I'm in so much pain and wish I NEVER took the stupid Suboxone. Now I feel like I will never have any relief. Oh and I took my last 4mg dose of Sub this past Monday and took my first Percocet a few hours after that. Please give me hopeful news. Thank you to any of you for your help.

I don't think taking other opiates while subs are still in your system will permanently hinder their future effectiveness, but I may be wrong. The reason it didn't work the first time you took the percs is because suboxone acts as an opiate inhibitor to other opiates while it's in your system but that should end after it gets out of your system. By now the precs should be working, have you taken any since monday? If so, did they seem to work any better or are they still having no effect?

^ This. It's generally advised to wait 24 -48 hours after your last sub dose before resuming regular opiates.

Also check out the Pain Management Mega Thread. Lots of useful advice in there, and a good place to post.

Regards, and I hope you get to feeling better.

I have taken some since Monday and having no effect. I'm needing some relief. I've never hurt this bad before. I think the worst thing I did was going on suboxone but I didn't want to get my percocet usage out of control. Thank you so much for answering me. If you have any other suggestions I'd love to hear it. :)

what kind of sub dose were you on? sub is an interesting creature, it's actually a very strong opiate from the standpoint of inducing tolerance, but since it's only a partial agonist, you don't really realize how strong it is because there's less of the euphoric high that full agonist opiates give... so long as you aren't eating massive amounts of percocets trying to compensate, if you stick it out and wait for the sub to be eliminated from your system and your tolerance to return to baseline, you should start to be able to feel something again from your normal dose of percocet. there's really nothing else you can do but be patient. maybe you could explain to your doctor that your dose needs adjustment because of the effects of the sub on your tolerance level, but they may or may not actually do anything to help.

EDIT: ah, i see, you were taking 4 mg sub/day? that's a pretty big dose. by way of comparison, that kind of dose is able to hold a lot of people who do something like 5-10 bags/day of dope. that will definitely blow your tolerance out of the water; a few percocets aren't going to do anything against that. you probably should consult with your doctor, otherwise you're likely in store for a few weeks of pain until your body can pass most of that sub and your tolerance can begin to reset.

^Indeed, my friend was on 2mg suboxone and he needed about 100mg of hydrocodone to keep him out of w/d. Suboxone is very strong and can inflate your tolerance greatly especially since you've been on it for 2 months.

It doesn't inflate your tolerance. It blockades your opiate receptors for the duration of time it remains in your system, therefore taking any opiates unless a very high dose will render it useless. There is hardly any cross tolerance between subs and full agonist opiates. I know this as I was on a 2mg dose, before hand I would take 400mg of dihydrocodeine to get high. After 30 hours of waiting after my last 2mg dose of bupe, I took 800 and felt 0.

I also retested this theory of mine when I had no tolerance to opiates (or near to none) and took 2mg of bupe. It was the most intense opiate high of my life, the next day I titrated up to 200mg of oxycodone before I felt anything. I know I'm a retard and don't advise it, but bupe (maybe just for me) is one sticky motherfucker to the opiate receptors.

Sub has a higher affinity your to opiate receptors over oxycodone and a long half life... its hard to fight against it.
