8oHey everyone,

I need your honest opinions. You see, I am very addicted to heroin. I do over 4 grams a day. I am getting so tired of it!! I need to quit!! But, I can't quit CT. So my only option is MT. I currently live in Seattle, and know where all the good Gear is, but I will be moving soon and my old gear connects won't hold a candle to this stuff!! So anyway...Where I will be going they don't have methadone clinics either!! So, as you can see.....I need advice!! Also what is the transition like? Please respond asap!!

Methadone, especially MMT, was the worst decision I ever made regarding my opiate issue. I recommend suboxone, or will-power and tapering. If you do find a methadone clinic I'd advise a 90 day detox, not a MMT plan. Good luck.

I have the opposite experience.....

MMT saved my ass and is a blessing.....the WD is a bitch but you can always switch to subs later to taper down.

Where are you moving to? There are MMT clinics all over the place.

The VAST majority of people that try rehab like that fail miserably after a lot of suffering. I have never heard anyone else give that advice.

Methadone is not something you want to start unless you can continue it b/c the WD is terrible and lasts a lot longer than heroin though.

If you are really going somewhere you can't get MMT then you may have no choice but to go to a horrible rehab....

Same here man, everytime i think about that time in my life it makes my sick.

Try everything but methadone if you can.

If where you are going doesn't have methadone or heroin contacts the obvious answer is you are going to have to get off opiates. Since you aren't willing to go cold turkey you need to taper down. You can try and taper using heroin but since it is your drug of choice you have a phsycological connection with it that will make this more difficult. A quick methadone taper may therefore be best but if you don't get it low enough to jump off before you move the acute detox from meth is arguably worse than heroin due to its length.

Read up on methadone tapers and see if you think it is for you or if you want to try and beat heroin on your own. I think this move is a great opportunity to get cleaned up and not getting into the drug scene at your new location would be an excellent way of staying sober.

Good Luck!

When I was at my worst(right before I prayed, and Prayed, and prayed somemore about if it was the right thing to get on at a Methadone Clinic,at worse I used around 8-12 K4's shot a day, and sometimes spending 150-250 bucks in one day, and consuming all that oxycodone and Hydromorphone is less than 24 hours. I was using WAY less than you, and honestly, these 9 months have been strange but, Ive somewhat had my life back. I can actually keep money for really as long as I want before I spend it where before methadone I made 1300 a week at my job and was still broke(talk about discouraging) :( Methadone Matienance is well, somethings I am SO THANKFUL that I got some decent stability back with Methadone, but at the same time, my tolorence in un-godly and only good dope or Oxy/Hydromorphone IV will even give me an itch. For the amount your using, thats not feesable for ever bro. I'f I had a choice between 60-80mg of methadone a day or be shooting 4 grams of raw, it would be way wiser to be on methadone for as mark renton says to keep your life! :)

Anyways, I wouldnt decide overnight. Sometimes with methadone, its best to have a longterm plan. And you have to weight the Drive/Miles round trip, price of clinic(private or Public(Veterans Affairs), compared to coppin on the streets and everything that goes along with that. I dislike that I AM ADDICTED to methadone, but, its alot better life than shooting opiods IMO.....just being real

I would go with MMT if you can't quit cold turkey like me. I may have to go down there every morning but my life is actually back on track and I will be getting weekly supplies very soon. I was shooting over a hundred mg of dilaudid daily and only thought about shooting up all day. I can actually focus on life now. I will begin tapering soon, I know it won't be easy, but at the place I'm at in life now it is nothing compared to what it could've been

As far as transition I would bet it would take 2-3 days after you start it to be physically wd free. The first day you take it you will probably feel like shit, but as it accumulates you will be fine. They have short detox plans you could try but at where you are I think a longer program would be much more succesful. I feel that a person needs to have their mind back meaning they aren't craving the shit and having urges like they did when they were using before tapering. Sure I still vhave the occasional urge, I miss the rush at times but it was worth trading it in for my sanity

And one other thing. Some may agree some may not but, for me, I seem to be allergic to suboxone, and I used suboxone before I went on MMT. Alot of people at the clinic complain that buprenorphine just doesnt hold them, and the insomnia and general "weird" feeling is not worth it. I happen to be one of those people that bupe doesnt help. If I take bupe, ill take like 4-6mg over 12 hours, but maybe 5 hours later, ill crave oxy, go get it, know the bupe is blocking and it will be a waste, but I shoot it anyways, so Its really useless, but I will still use full agonist just as much when im on suboxone as I normally would using the full agonist daily. Methadone seems to truly hold me for around 20-26hrs on average

MMT is not just for lifers. A lot of people can't maintain on bupe and still have terrible cravings or feel like a zombie.

MMT is very hard to kick from, that much is true. But I know quite a few people that have quit successfully. I also know a lot of bupe people that have continued to abuse other opiates during their maintenance, which is almost impossible with methadone.

You can always switch to bupe in order to taper off also.....so there is no reason to think of MMT as permanent. I very much dislike the spread of false info that seems prevalent with MMT.

While a lot of people do have a hard time getting off of methadone it surely isn't impossible. I know a few people in real life who successfully tapered and are still clean from 'done/opiates. Also on opiophile there are a few members who have posted detailed taper journals, and have since remained opiate free after dropping off.

It is VERY tough, but if you have the willpower and proper support around you, as well as having your life, as well as emotions/mentality under control, then it is most definitely possible. A lot of people who have gotten off of methadone i am sure do not participate in forums dedicated to drug use.

Okay team let's re-read the OPs questions and try and focus on that. I'm going to move this side discussion into the Methadone Mega Thread which will now have even more great info.

...and if anyone asks...or asked...

I didn't delete it. It is in the methadone megathread I linked above where it will be seen in all it's glory for years to come instead of being buried in this one time question from the OP :D
