Staphylocococcus or stupidity

Hi, i currently intravenously use heroin and to get to the point i injected into my foot for the first time and missed. Is there going to be more pain from missing in the foot rather than the hand or arm? i also understand the way staph effects the body but the last time the infection stayed under the skin instead of forming the normal abscess witch led to it being a lot worse from the time spent wondering by me and my physician if it actually was staph or a bump from the missed dosage. Since then ive taken precautions by using 70% isopropyl alcohol on the injection site as well as the syringe but am still concerned about my foot. I understand why im in this mess and how it could have been prevented to start but this is the current situation and could use all the feedback i can get.

Ok I know quite a few people who have injected into their feet, shit, i even know a guy who injected into the vien in his penis!!! it went swollen and black! Back to you...yes it does hurt more in your foot than your arm or hand, I went to stick a needle in my foot but chickened out as ive seen how much it hurts. Missed in my hand today actually, the pain wasnt much at all. BUT please try smoking, i know all the arguements against it, and i cant talk, but from personal experience injecting anywere can/usually leads to worse complications than smoking. I was in hospital a month, in AGONY before the op and left with a lovely HUGE scar on my lower stomach just because a teeny bit of something bad caused an abssess, growths on my heart and I woke up during the operation as having a heroin habit, I guess my tolerance to any knock out drug may be a bit higher :-/ . I dont think your out of line at all, but im still a greenlighter, although I do think we should be able to post if we're really worried about something. Everyone is here to help.

ps. the abssess was inside my body i had 5, 1 golf ball size one right against my spine, the surgeon kindly told me he had never performed such a procedure. please be careful

When it comes to issues of serious IV complications, we can't offer an accurate diagnosis over the internet. The best thing you can do is to seek professional medical help ASAP.

I'm going to close this, I know going in for medical care for these sort of issues isn't pleasant, but it beats the other potential horrible outcomes that might occur sitting in speculation.

If I am understanding correctly, you're looking more for advice on how to prevent infection as opposed to saying you currently have an infection, correct? If so, my first advice is don't inject in your feet! There ARE other places to inject (ask if you need tips finding usable locations), feet are a bad place, the veins are delicate, the blood flow isn't as good, they can get infected more easily, and misses are definitely more painful on the feet. And I think it's much easier to miss there since the veins are tiny and like to roll around.

If you already missed a shot, apply a hot compress (hot wet cloth) to the area for 10-15 min a few times a day and maybe elevate your foot while doing so. Monitor it closely for signs of infection like if it doesn't improve within 24 hrs, if you see a red line or streak leading from the site, if you have a fever, if the area gets more red, swollen and painful, hot to the touch, etc. Seek medical attention if in doubt.

Other things to prevent infection and other complications include properly filtering your solution and using proper injection technique.

If you're saying you missed a shot a while ago and you're not sure if it's an infection or a missed shot, please seek a second medical opinion.
