Stage 4 Cancer Patient Inquiring About Cost Effective Pain Management (NO INSURANCE)

Not at all, Marinol is NOTHING like the blend of cannabinoids found in high potency cannabis extracts.

I would recommend cannabis extracts like hash, keif, wax, etc. over Marinol, as Marinol only contains a negligible amount of THC, and there is SO MUCH MORE to the cannabinoids action than THC.

I still highly recommend morphine or methadone, preferably morphine as it tends to stay working longer, and the redosing isn't as bad as with methadone, but in terms of $$, we can't get into it but I'd be willing to bet they are both dirt cheap

very true... i saw a documentary where many people reported getting very minor relief from arinol compared to cannabis... there are sooo many different "alkaloids" (i think thats the right term) in cannabis marinol only isolates a small portion of the overall beneficial medical effects of weed, but research into the effects of medical marijuana are still at relatively early stages... i hope once we can isolate exactly what partS of the cannabis plant has this painkilling and even in some cases healing effect towards cancer (and other diseases like MS for example), scientists can work towards maing a cannabis based medication without the "unwanted" side effects such as paranoia for example... or the somewhat psychadelic "high" allthough most people quite enjoy the high they get from cannabis, so its a little plus to its amazing healing properties.....

also methadone is dirt cheap, and far syronger as a painkiller than poppy pod tea... you'd have to drink litres of it several times a day to get the analgesic effect of a "medium" dose of methadone

I've tried Marinol quite a bit, and it is extremely expensive for the (lack of) effects it produces.

I don't use cannabinoids recreationally, I use them for their therapeutic value, it's way more complex than just tetrahydrocannabinol.

Why do we always have to take perfectly good plant medicines, isolate what we think is the active ingredient, (when it's a lot more complex than that) and synthesize it, resulting in an inferior (and often more dangerous or addictive - look at heroin or cocaine) product? Oh yeah, I forgot, it's because the pharmaceutical industry is a business solely concerned with profit and it's much more profitable to do it that way - it's extremely difficult to patent a plant. I don't think that doing that isolation/synthesization slightly better, with say 3 chemicals instead of one (because our understanding of how the brain and body works and how plants affect them is not going to be remotely close to complete any time soon), is really going to help that much. And I would assume they would try to replicate the analgesic effects and remove any of the mental effects, which are actually very beneficial to some people dealing with chronic pain and terminal illnesses.

Why not just focus on breeding plants with different effects? People have been hybridizing and selectively breeding plants for thousands of years and people are already doing that pretty effectively with cannabis. I'm not sure how it works in the US, but here in Canada when you are medically prescribed cannabis you can attend a class where you learn about the effects of different strains and how to choose one that will be most effective for you. There are many to choose from.

I don't believe that smoking cannabis is necessarily contraindicated for people with lung cancer, we don't really know yet so I would probably avoid it to be safe. I have read studies that found smoking cannabis did not increase the likelihood of developing cancer and some said it may even have a protective effect, but I haven't heard of any studies on how the smoke would affect a person who already has lung cancer. If smoke is a worry there are definitely other ways to consume it (extracts, eating it, putting it in food/baking, vaporizing extracts, etc)

Extracts are the way to go for medicinal cannabis, IMO. Baking it is alright when done correctly. I recommend creating your own infusions with coconut oil.

if you're looking for cheapest meds i completely agree with the guy who said poppy pod tea, it contains codeine which is a good pain killer, also if you wanna go even further you can do an extraction of codeine and then synthesize morphine from it but I wouldn't suggest that... you can also grow cannabis and extract the oils from it, but first try it coz cannabis oil is effective in some people, but not all... good luck anyway hope this is helpful

I also think that poppy pods would be worth a try. They are by far the cheapest source of opiates that i know of. It contains many alkaloids including codeine and morphine, and you dont need to do any synthesisizing beyond steeping the ground pods in warm water to extract the morphine and other goodies. You only need to do the chemistry stuff if you want to isolate and concentrate the morphine.

I have stage 4 breast cancer and hydromorphone has been a life saver. If you send me your paypal address I will pay for the prescription monthly until he is covered. I feel I came across this listing for a reason and I know how he feels. No one should ever have to go without the pain meds they need. Thank you for being such a wonderful daughter to him. I had to pay for 6 months until I was covered so, like I said, I feel I can now pay it forward as someone helped me when I was in that situation.

wow that us generous good on you.

granted even if you can for instance "mould" the cannabis plant, to for example tone down the THC and up tghe CBD (siplest example) or vice versa so yes you can tone down the risk of a strain of cannabis that would make you paranoid... but I think its pretty hard to deny that cannabis triggers (not causes), but triggers an early onset of scizphrenia and/or psychosis in predisposed people.... wouldn't it be good to get rid of that risk ... and yes the whole pharm industry hypocrisy VS not being able to patent a plant is very valid... but prices of meds around the world are pretty damn cheap especially with generics EXEPT in the US where prices i've seen are multiple times the price of what we don't pay here in europe, and healthcare includibg most medication is "free" EXEPT in the US

i think overall, just sticking to the cannabis plant is a better idea, but realisticly speaking/thinking, when they come out with aa med as efficiant as cannabis for pain, appetite and healing, but does NOT get you high, believe you me, you will not get prescribed cannabis anymore, you will get rx the med.... its just the way it is

if you could seperate the action of opiates that gets you high from the action that kills pain, morphine oxy etc would NO WAY be on the market

I agree that cannabis extracts like hashes, keifs, oils, etc. are the way to go, not Marinol or Nabilone.

You can get your medicinal cannabis recommendation from your oncologists, they won't necessarily force you to use the RX version, to my knowledge.

for the moment , sure, because doctors/oncoogists especially realise how much more effective cannabis is than marinol, but once the rx version is as effective at relieving pain as the plant but with no "high", with current political mindset, i think you'll have to get the med that doesn't get u high

Man, in some cases you don't give a fuck if you're high...you don't give a fuck about anything anymore.

well damn my post about marinol the other day was NOT received well. Personally i have never even had it, I have just heard good things from a few family friends who used it to help with chemo/ pain. IMO high grade hashish and keif covered nuggets are the best treatment for the symptoms of most cancer treatments. I said symptoms not actually curing the cancer so dont get on my jock haha. And tricomb i respect your posts more than most on this forum so my view on marinol is now slightly less positive.

Actually, the newest THC-based medication, Sativex has been released in Europe and Canada iirc.

Marinol does not provide any kind of a high that a frequent smoker would acknowledge. I've heard sativex is different as it isn't a chemical derivative but in fact derived directly from the marijuana plant. It has a relatively equal mix of THC and CBD and from my experience as a pain patient and chats I've had with some of my bud clinic managers, CBD is in fact the more potent pain reliever.

Its pretty dope nowadays most Dispensaries actually send their buds for gas chromatography study and will then label the buds THC and CBD content. Usually for me I'd buy one bag of a THC rich bud for relaxation and muscle spasms and buy one high in CBD for back and neuropathic pain,

If the patient can still eat, I recommend pot in food form. It's stronger and portable. You can even bring it into hospitals and the staff won't know what you're doing.
