St John's Wort - Blocking tramadol?

I use tramadol on and off fairly regularly. I enjoy the stimulant like effects and mood lift and later on the opiate effects.

However the last time I was taking them I noticed none of the energy-giving effects, only the latter.

I was taking St John's Wort daily, and learned that as it has SSRI properties, it can block effects of Serotonin releasing agents (like tramadol).

Is this the cause of me not experiencing the 'speedy' feeling? And how long does St John's Wort exert these effects? I.e. how long should I abstain from it before dosing with tramadol again in order to get these effects?

No actually st johns worth has a low affinity for serotonin so taking them together is dangerous.... You could get serotonin syndrome if you take to much if both at the same time. Tramadol also has an affinity for serotonin ... In other contries they prescribe st johns worth as a antidepressant because of it's serotonin properties..

You should veto antidepressant if that iswhatyourlookingforsothatyouwontgetaddicted to opiates for treating your depression.
