St John's vs 5htp??

St. John's wort shown to upregulate 5ht1a and 5ht2a receptors after down-regulation caused by use. You might have to get a good brand and use for a few weeks though. 5htl good for short run.

I wonder what system-wide effect that actually has in the long term?

I wonder if it is a "good thing" as such to increase the numbers of those receptors? Does increased receptors mean you get better use out of the serotonin that you have and feel better for it, or does it mean that the little you have gets used up quicker resulting in more depressive feelings once you stop taking the hypericum?

When I took 5htp it seemed to perk up my mood a bit . Felt kinda like a mood stabalizer .

Then a year down the line my depression came back and I decided to use st johns wort .the first few days I was taking it I didn't really feel much . Then a few days passed by . It made me feel Really zombie like. Groggy and tired with a lack of physical and mental energy . I wasn't depressed but did feel like I was in a dream or something ever so slightly.
I didn't really like the effects and found weed to be much better for relieving my depression .

However everyone has a different reaction to st johns as everyone has different brain chemistrys . i know some people who find it really helps
