SSRIs (Prozac) and opiates (Oxycodone).

I've done some research on this subject but would like some clarification. From what I understand, using an SSRI such as Prozac has no effect on opiates. There is no harmful interaction, nor is there any potentiation (unlike alcohol, I guess). I'm on a dose of 20mg Prozac a day, and wondering if what I had just said is accurate, and if not, what differences I can expect when I consume Oxycodone? I've used opiates for years, but I have yet to mix them with Prozac. Apparently the Oxy can override some of the effects of the Prozac (temporarily) but I'm okay with that. I'm just worried that I'll be more likely to experience side effects of opiates (such as nausea) that I've been lucky to avoid in the past (though I don't know if science disapproves my paranoia here).

Prozac and oxycodone are not known to interact with each other. You still should be cautious.

Ssri's can have effects on opiates however. Some opiates have effects on serotonin thus increasing risk of serotonin syndrome if taken with an ssri. Some are also metabalozided by the same enzyme that specific ssri's are, and can have an effect on how the opiate is metabolized.

You could always give the pharmacy a call and ask as well.

And I drank like a fish on all sorts of meds that I shouldn't have done but YMMV and this site is about harm reduction so we should alwasy air on the side of caution when giving any advice.

There is no interaction shown on the site I quoted for escitalopram (cipralex) or Prozac and Heroin but does show a warning for mixing with Oxycodone, I'm no doctor so i could tell you why but mixing drugs is always a tricky business unless its your field of expertise.
