Has anyone tried this? I only recently learned about this. I have aspergers and was recently taking risperidone but I run out. My friend gave me his 10mg escitalopram tablets and I took a maximum dose of 50mg a day for four weeks until I could get a script for the antipsychotic from my psychiatrist.

During this time, my sex drive totally died out and my penis was as limp as a leaf. Then I went off and slowly by slowly I was the HORNIEST I've ever been in my life. Jesus Christ, it was insane. When I masturbated I shot semen so high that it got on my laptop keyboard and I had to spend a few minutes cleaning it...lol.

Anyway, it definitely wasn't just abstaining as I've gone four weeks without masturbation on a trip abroad and never felt like that horny before. I've read it has to do with the serotonin/dopamine balance which is like the breaks and gas respectively of sex drive. When you take SSRI's, serotonin builds up and lowers dopamine. Then when you come back off, a lot of dopamine is released in a short period of time causing an intense desire for sex.

Just wanted to share this so someone would try it.
 
same with opiates but going on these drugs just to get a higher sex drive when you come off seems a stupid primary reason to take them

all of these aspects are side effects
 
I always enjoyed the reduced sex drive from SSRIs/TCAs but the rest of the effects/side-effects were God awful and not worth it.... opioids are a better sex drive reducer imo cause there's far fewer side-effects or risks *IMO* I know that's against harm reduction... I have a particular hatred of anti-depressant drugs >.>
 
People do say that psychiatric drugs are evil but I look at it this way, they're the lesser of two evils. I've been to a psych ward and although many patients were "zombified" from antipsychotics and antidepressants, I imagine the if psychosis is the alternative then it's better to be on them.

I can definitely agree with you on that. Something is better than nothing.

I just get real offended when I go to a psychiatrist for help with say, insomnia and anxiety, and they're just like, "Okay, pick one of these SSRIs out of the bucket!" I've just stopped seeing psychiatrists. For the average person they are evil drugs... if they help you, great! If they don't then they shouldn't force them on you as the only avenue of treatment.
 
This doesn't really sound like a safe idea, and something for people to try out.

Consider starting a thread in Mental Health about pros and cons of psychotropics, or something, but i'm going to lock this thread.
