SSRI's and recreational value

Does a single dose of an SSRI (Paxil, Zoloft, Prozac) offer any recreational value as would a dose of amphetamine of a prescription opiate? Do they only provide help for people who actually have chemical disruptions in the brain? I don't plan on doing this at all, due to the hundreds of horror stories I've heard about these drugs, but I was wondering about the psycho-activity of them. If so, what would the effects be classified as?
 
SSRIs aren't recreational at all.

People will say they aren't, but when beginning an SSRI, certain effects can be percieved as enjoyable, but I wouldn't say that is common. SSRI's over time begin to cause some emotional "blunting" which could be considered desirable by some, but definitely not for others. After dosing daily for a while, depression and anxiety may be lifted some. SSRI's do have the potential to induce mania or at least make one more likely to have a manic episode for those who already have experienced manic symptoms. Mania can be euphoric initially. But, no they really aren't "recreational" like other drugs at all. They might produce some effects which could be considered enjoyable, but they aren't like other recreational drugs. I wouldn't take an SSRI for recreation, and I don't really think anyone would.
 
SSRI's and SNRI's make me super manic to the point where I'll jump off a telephone pole and be confident that I'll come out unscathed. This led to me knocking out someones tooth at a gig and subsequently not getting paid for the night :X. So if you find that recreational haha. I hate Reuptake Inhibitors, they're all garbage imo.
 
I'm kind of enjoying the numbness the Paxil I started is providing me. I don't want to stay on it, but for the short term I can stand to be emotionally blunted a little. It doesn't blunt my emotions much, but I can notice some difference. Call me crazy, but I think I might be enjoying an SSRI. Soon as an opiate comes around I'll take myself off it, so I can enjoy the opiate to its best.
 
They do help some people. I was on them before and they worked for just a little. For about 4 months they would be effective but eventually stop working. Been on an array of different ones. Paxil made me way manic but I liked feeling that way (I'm bipolar). I can't be on that now, doc won't allow. With exception of Effexor and Paxil none of them did anything. They only work for short periods (like most prescription drugs).
 
ssris are for a better word mynute doses of the party drug. But to get a similuar sort of feeling you would need to take copious amounts and i mean copious amounts which is HIGHLY ILL ADVISED By party drug im reffering to MDMA ssris particular focus on serotonin the altered brain chemical that is also effected by extacy but no not really recrational wise buddie. Saying that it take 40 mgs of fluoxetine for depression and A D H D effects on my mood.But i will say that occasionally of the cuff it take 60 mg when feelin particulary low once again NOT ADVISED . Everyones uniquie who knows it might be phychological expectations that help with the extra dose i sometimes take but getting back 2 the question no recreationall value in the amount of drug in each capsuel but dont just take my word look around but i am speaking on first hand experience of ssris ive been a touch longwinded but hope it helps be good
 
I hope your not trying to say SSRIs are recreational. I couldn't quite understand what you were saying. But regardless of how much you take you will not experience anything that even resembles a high. Only thing you may experience by taking copious doses would be serotonin syndrome and that is neurotoxic. You will not get any feeling similar to MDMA.
 
No your right but the ssris are are neurologicly serotonin bursts in a pill on a small scale. No i would not advise taking copious amounts of them thats why is said ill advised. The only reason i mentioned that was i was in a bad way and took quite a few in my youth and i basicly felt my mood elevated but that was shit loads of them. No your right no recreational value at all . But you can understand the line of thought asking about recreational proporties workin on serotonin as the ssris do? but no i wouldnt advise abusing these AT ALL
 
They only start really working after a few months. Maybe the first day you feel a boost but nothing that resembles a high. Paxil made me feel manic which was a good thing for me (natural high) but I didn't start feeling this way until after a couple weeks. I was taken off it from my doctor because I wasn't supposed to feel that way. I have bipolar and that can happen with anti-depressants.
 
yeah i know a gezzer who takes ssris 4 the depressive side of manic depression 2 try and sort of stay hyper all the time lol yeah they do take a while two work in the early days first few of reatment they lift the mood then there after for 2- 4 weeks its basicly getting into the system side effect ect some people have bad side effects some dont its a very individual thing ive been on 40 mg prozac for 8 months sometimes when feelin stressed take 60 4 a little extra help NOT ADVISED lol only now and then. Also i take 30 mg of mirtazepine at night to help with the sleep and a little temazepam dose 10 mgs thats all.

Pardon my lack of knowledge on the psychology topic, but what exactly do you mean by "manic"? Is this a good or bad thing?

People with bipolar suffer "manic" and "depressive" phases. By society's rules being manic is not good because you can get into all kinds of trouble. Basically your mind races and you feel a natural high and everything seems doable and you get everything done, multitask, start businesses, build towers, write books, anything. But you may also do some really bad things without realizing it. But with bipolar after wards you go deep into a really depressive state, nearly suicidal. Some drugs can produce manic phases like methamphetamine but its limited mostly to bipolar
