Has anyone had any problems while smoking jwh enhanced blends while taking an SSRI. I am starting to take Prozac and was planning on smoking a blend after work. I am currently quitting Cannabis, and plan on smoking a bag or two of the blend to make it easier. I know not much research has been done, but I am just looking for personal experiences.

You might get more answers in ADD, I imagine those guys could give you a definitive answer on whether or not it's ok. On a side note, why smoke the blend and not just cannabis? I know you're quitting, but if you're just going to take another drug with essentially identical effects you might as well stick to safe, delicious weed.

Because I am going to be looking for a new job and would like to start cleaning out my system now. I'm going to a few Phish shows in August and would like to be able to puff the real stuff for a few days... or at least have the option to I guess. Who knows if I will feel like smoking at that point.

Also, certain parts of the synthetics I like over regular cannabis. Less anxiety for me.

Thanks for the reply chainer, I smoked cannabis when I was on SSRI but that was close to 10 years ago. The major difference between now and then was that I didn't feel like taking Prozac (I was depressed) and do not think I was very regular. Now I know I need to take it to help get over a little bump that I have just hit in life. Hell if this was 5 to 10 years ago I would probably be half strung out by now....

Oh yeah, I always forget that employers drug test in the states.

Many, but not all do.

Frankly, it seems like half of the time they test just to make sure you can quit using something and are not addicted. I have only been drug tested for a job once. Never any random or anything. Plus its "not bud" so it allows you to break the whole ritual part.

I can totally understand someone not wanting someone to show up to work under the influence, but what do they care what I do with my off time? But I digress.

I didn't notice anything yesterday. I'm keeping the doses low.

Didn't really have much of a desire to smoke (and drink) which is a good thing. I think this is more of a motivation to get over this rough patch I have hit more then the meds, but who knows.

Still no reaction, the SSRI is also working very well for me. It also appears to be cutting back on the amount I want to drink and smoke.

Still nothing to really report. I am going to be stopping both the blends and the cannabis soon and will report on that. I'm wondering if it is effecting my anti-depressant without me noticing it.

Guess what? All herbal smoking blends are different. Lots have JWH but some have amanita muscaria alcaloids, some have other forms of JWH, some have the CP55490 (?)... Theres no way of knowing whats in your blend or if your blend is "safe" much less if its safe to mix with SSRI's....

I know. I'm pretty sure that the blend I use has some kind of cannabinoid, most likely jwh-073 and or jwh-018.

To be clear I am in no way saying this is safe, to do so would be irresponsible and against the principles of harm reduction. I just thought it would be useful to add my experience.

Thank you! A BL'er recently asked this question and this thread served as the perfect answer. Keep us updated if you notice any sudden changes when you stop beyond the normal cannabis "w/d"s.

I never had any adverse reactions smoking anything cannabis-like while on SSRIs. Even one blend containing Kanna, which was probably not a great idea, but still. Oddly enough, I never really got into smoking and other drugs until I went on SSRIs, and whenever I go off them (or try to) I lose almost all interest in getting high.

I've been tapering off Lexapro recently, and today (two weeks completely off) I threw out all my synthetic smoking blends because I realized how much stress just having them gave me. (Should I smoke it? Will it be safe down the road? Will I have an anxiety attack? Can I smoke it with my friends? If it turns out JWH is harmful in the long run, will I have been responsible for messing up my friends lives???) Off Lexapro, I had no trouble trashing it all :)

my experience

hey,

i have been on lexapro (an ssri) now for about 4 months.

on sunday, i got my hands on some "incense" called "mr. nice guy". it is the latest craze, so i decided to give it a shot. i have done shrooms and marijuana on anti-depressants with no adverse effects, so i figured mng would be no different. and it might have been... if i did not take so many hits. with mng, it is recommended that you only take 1 hit. i did not discover this till after the fact. i took about 10-15 hits.

the chemical compound jwh-018 that is believed to be in synthetic weed is known to affect serotonin levels. again, something i learned too late. what basically happened to me was a serotonin overdose known as "serotonin syndrome" :

Serotonin syndrome most often occurs when two drugs that affect the body's level of serotonin are taken together at the same time. The drugs cause too much serotonin to be released or to remain in the brain area.

Drugs of abuse, such as ecstasy and LSD have also been associated with serotonin syndrome. (And apparently JHW-018, too.)

Symptoms occur within minutes to hours, and may include:

* Agitation or restlessness (Check)
* Diarrhea
* Fast heart beat (Check)
* Hallucinations (Check)
* Increased body temperature (Most-likely happened)
* Loss of coordination (Check)
* Nausea (Check)
* Overactive reflexes (Check)
* Rapid changes in blood pressure (Most-likely happened)
* Vomiting (Check) (Check) (Check) (Check)

Here is my account of what happened to me:

i tried mr. nice guy @ 9:45PM last night. it's the latest craze that has kids ablaze and the government is working furiously to ban it. i should have taken the advice i read on some website... just ONE hit is enough! i do not remember how many hits i took, but it was at least 10-15. the effects came fast with a punch. it was not long before i no longer had control of my body. prior to losing control, i could move my arms and legs, but it was like shifting time and space when i did. i do not understand what happened, but i tapped into the multiverse in the wildest trip i ever had. reality became a blur and i could feel alternate dimensions and travel from one parallel universe to another by moving my hand. it was beyond anything i could ever imagine. it was so intense and my mind was so focused that i began throwing up. i threw up all night, in my chair. the hallucinations were far out. i felt so nauseous, and there was so much pain. it felt like my body was on fire. it hurt so much that my muscles were sore today. i do not know when i snapped out of the trance, but my next move was to faceplant in my bed which was a foot away. i zonked out only to awake in the middle of the night... i was covered in puke. my floor / chair / bed was a mess! i got up and was still stoned... double vision, lightheadedness, and a big ol' feeling of wtf. i got in the shower and laid in the tub. i zonked out for god knows how long.

The next morning, I was still high. I was high for about 20 hours after taking those hits.

So... my advice to anyone on anti-depressants (specifically SSRIs), is proceed with caution!

And to anyone who wants to try Mr. Nice Guy, Mr. Smiley, K2, Spice, whatever contains JHW-018, only take 1-3 hits MAX.

And make sure you have a sitter with you in case you O.D.

To tell you the truth, I don't know how I survived that crap. One of the few things I remember about the trip was me thinking, So this is how it feels like to die...

Serious poop.

Sounds to me like you just OD'd on that blend. Iv'e smoked a lot of synth before and have gotten some of those symptoms while not on an SSRI. It may have seemed like you had SS from the intense high+panic attack that I can guess you were also having.
