SSRI discontinuation syndrome: how to reduce symptoms

Its near impossible to post, I bet once i click post i will have to hit refresh/try again about 6 times and you get a window of BL working for maybe 2 minutes which is crap since threads take about that much time to read and you might have 10 browser tabs opened of threads with new replies. Not sure if i should donate unless this is fixed first

yeah bluelight is working shit for me, but so is my whole internet at the moment too.

Mr blond: managed to get a script for 25 x 30mg oxazepam. take half a tablet as needed - works wonders for the anxiety. with the anxiety gone its shitty, but not too bad. I'm supposed to go back to uni next week, might have to skip a week and get a medical certificate. Can't be fucked with all those gay getting to know you games and discussion of some long and boring article that I know will happen in my tutes. First tutes are always awkward and pointless anyway.

For people who have been through this before: how lond did the withdrawal symptoms typically last? My doctor seems to think it will gone in a week or two, but they have been pretty wrong on the whole about ssri withdrawal so far.

When tapering it took me about a week before the side effects began to wane and ease up after a dose reduction. reckon I can expect similiar things now that I have stopped altogether.

A bit off topic: but I found this forum http://www.paxilprogress.org. alot of the posters on there have been tapering off ssri's (generally paxil) for well over a year. fuck that. i think that is being overly cautious. what do others think? they have tiny dose reductions of like 1mg or so a month. How do you even measure that. I had difficulty just divided my tabs by 12mg.

psytaco, my friend.

Dude, Fluoxetine and Reboxetine.

Stop taking your Zoloft ASAP, after a consult with two different doctors, and get both meds filled out by different pharmacies, and then, after the 2 days or so of not taking nothing, start on about 4 mg Reboxetine b.d. and about 20 mg of Fluoxetine, once daily.

The reason is this:
Fluoxetine is the SSRI equivalent of diazepam. It has a long acting half-life. It's either converted in to norfluoxetine or desmethylfluoxetine, which has a half life of roughly 7 days or so. Diazepam, get's converted into 3 different drugs in your body after ingestion. Oxazepam, Temazepam, and Desmethyldiazepam (or Nordiazepam), which has a half life of about 200 hours or so, depending on individual to individual.

Reboxetine is a NRI. It may help you with some of the conditions that you have, ohh fuck, wait a minute, you're withdrawing off Zoloft, right? In that case, fuck the reboxetine.

Good luck brother.

cheers Mr Squiggle. I've been to the doctor twice in 3 days, so I can't be fucked going again to get some prozac. I have heard it is easier to taper off due to the long half life. but i'm done with ssri's. I'm just going to tough it out and get the shit out of my system.

have you kicked them before? How long did it take to stop you feeling like shit?

completely off topic: but where is brn cuzzins? Did he get banned? his posts always made me piss myself.

Yes sir. I've kicked the worst of the worst, Aropax, about 5 times.

Ranging from 4 months to 24 months in use though psy.

The worst side effects were this 'wooshing' sound that come in and out of my ear. It really fucked me of mate! I've also kicked Effexor 300 mg a day, Zoloft 200 mg a day and so on and so on.

How long were you taking the Zoloft for psy?

No idea where brn cuzzins is. Hopefully, in a loony bin with tadfish and Davids somewhere, for clear incompetency in life skills.

Cheers mate.

LOL! ah that dude cracked me up. he got over 60 posts in a couple of days with none of them making sense, and all of them troll posts. I might read all his posts for some laughs.

I've been taking it for about 6 months, on 50mg a day. so yeah, about an average dose.

200mg, damn thats alot of zoloft! i tried it at 100mg but it felt like my brain was cooking, was fucked. i quickly dropped back down to 50mg and all was well.

Link me up if you ever find any of his posts k psy?

I could abuse a good laugh right now. Bored as fuck!

clonazepam, and a REAL p-doc who knows what the hell these drugs do to you.

Effexor was great at preventing suicidal ideation for me. But changing my entire personality in the process. So I went cold turkey off a very high dose.

Stupid, stupid, stupid. The effexor wds are the worst wds of anything ive ever been through. Horrible drug. full body "zaps", racing thoughts, inability to keep a thought in my head, terrible constant downright anger, body aches, no sleep, hallucinations. 'Twas bad. thankfully only lasted like a week at full force and a month in total.

wish'ed i'd tapered or used something else to manage the comedown - in addition the the k-pins. Those helped, somewhat.

if you can manage the cold turkey, and you're not prone to seizure, then tough it out that way, if you can.

I don't know what's going on with BL... I couldn't even get the site to work this morning, after about an hour I think I could get a peek at AusDD but it was so slow.

Good to hear that brother, glad that the oxazepam is helping. :)

The WD will depend on how long you have been on the SSRI and can vary from person to person... I'd say the most intense part may last from a week to several weeks, with other effects lingering on for a month or two depending on how slow you taper.

As for the year long taper... I would probably go quicker depending on how much I could handle. If you have been on it for a really long time, you know... years, then perhaps a very slow taper would be in order as your brain's receptors would be completely out of whack. :\

Withdrawal is pretty much over, with the exception of the odd brain zap here and there. I have no need to take any benzos because they anxiety has disappeared, and I feel perfectly fine. No depression, nothing. all side effects from the zoloft have gone.

Sadly after finishing the withdrawal, I've caught a cold. so not 100% yet, but once the cold is gone will be.

Thanks for all the advice guys

Same problem here. It's been like that occasionally for me lately, just doesn't want to load or is very slow. If there's not many people having this problem it's probably an ISP-level or routing dealio. Sometimes adding your ISP's proxy server settings into your browser can help.

Awesome that you're feeling better taco :D (apart from the cold)

Its best to do all this under the advice of psychiatrist. Is there a particular reason you're not?

Psychiatrists are dickheads, i'd much prefer a psychologist. Psychologists teach you methods of dealing with your issues without medication. Psychiatrists just tell you you're fucked up, medicate you and then try and delve into your brain when you're a zombie.

I've been on 60mg Paroxetine a day for about 5 months and i am OVER that shit. It levelled me out at a loose point in my life but its done its job, its now time for a Psychologist to help me deal with these feelings naturally.

My experience only.

Even counselors, anything is better than a fucking psychiatrist, who has spent 12-16 years of his life studying to become a doctor, then a psychiatrist...

But, I spose if the case is complicated, then a psychiatrist is the way to go...Woot for Medicare rebates!

Plus, P-Docs, rather than Psy.Doctors, can prescribe shit to you.

I was taken away by EMT's 2 weeks ago. They took my meds right out of my purse. I was on 100mg Zoloft. I got released the next day. Since I have no health insurance but earn too much for charity care, they let me go. The dr. only prescribed me 15 pills. When I realized I was going to run out before my appointment at my clinic (no health insurance - I see a psychiatrist at a clinic and appointments are made a month in advance and it's impossible to get emergency care because of where I live and my work situation) I started tapering.

But these BRAIN ZAPS and VERTIGO are KILLING ME. Is there nothing I can do? I see my shrink in 2 days, but I don't want to be on this shit any more after all this! It's horrible.

Oh shoot, I'm in the US... posted this in the wrong place. Can't even think.

Go to your usual pharmacy? Don't know the laws in US but in Australia I'm pretty sure the pharmacist would be able to give you a weeks worth of an SSRI no problem.

To anyone who is willing to quit taking their SSRI's, I recommend the following procedure.

Stop taking whatever anti-depressant you're on.

Wait 2 days.

Resume with 40 mg of Prozac, and if you are taking an SNRI, also take reboxetine 4 mg daily.

Also some Valium might help.

of course this is my suggestion when i intend on kicking the Zoloft 100 mg im on now, so yeah...peace.
