SSRA's? Other Antidepressants/Anxiolotics

So quick summary: I roll every few months, and it helps with my depression.. However because of alcohol and other reasons I have mild to mod depression and anxiety. I roll every 2-3 months, and don't abuse. Alcohol I have abused and am trying to abstain.

What I need is to possibly take something to help me cope, but wont hurt me more or hurt my recovery.

Are there any antidepressants out there that won't interfere with MDMA in anyway. (Meaning, I am fine from abstaining from antidepressant usage for a few days before/after rolls, but not if it will prevent me from doing MDMA at all for a significant time).

I know SSRI's cause this. How about a SSRA? I really don't want to take something that will alter my brain chemistry long term. I've heard that once you're on an antidepressant, you're stock on it for years, or life.

I'd like to ideally undo neurodamage as well. I take piracetam daily, and I've heard SJW can help with repairing damage to serotonin receptors. Are there other (non herbal) antidepressants that have this same action?

How about for alcohol? Can I reregulate my GABAa receptors?

I know lots of questions, but any help is appreciated.

I've heard so many accolades for tianeptine over my time at forums like these that I'll recommend it, though I have no experience with it or any other antidepressant. It does not work via the same mechanism as SSRIs but rather, I believe, works via modulation of glutamate receptors, in addition to acting as a serotonin reuptake enhancer.
Alternatively you can experiment with psychedelics like 2C-I or 4-OH-MiPT, which have some MDMA-like character and may prove useful if you've found rolling aids your overall mood.

this is my worry exactly. antidepressants are an addictive drug and i think it will be difficult to get off of them.

for the alcohol at least, i'm tapering with librium (I was using xanax which I have had for anxiety), but I feared that the xanax addiction is worse than alcohol. beyond that i use piracetam daily, which seems to help a lot even though its not necessarily indicated for much.

for the depression. i tried SJW for around 3 months between rolls. i'm not sure if it did much or not. i did get hypersensitity to light and some other small side effects, but with so little information on the substance, i wasn't sure if the effect was placebo or not.

i've read about tinapetine, and the potential seems huge. I'm not sure on the mechanism of action however. Would I be able to take MDMA after using it? Another issue seems to be availability, since I'm not sure I'll be able to get it in the USA any longer until its re-approved for something.

Some other substances of interest right now are Vincopetine and Picamilon, but I am still doing interest.

Vinpocetine hasn't given me the positive results that piracetam has, but you could always give it a try yourself. Another promising feature of tianeptine (especially in your case) is that it alleviates some of the alchohol cravings and withdrawals. Tianeptine also doesn't have the terrible withdrawal syndromes most other AD's do.

Given it's short half-life, I would say that using MDMA after it is probably fine.

any thoughts on potentiating effects of tinapetine. as a SSRE it seems to lower the amount of synaptic serotonin.

this stuff really looks ideal. its a reverse acting antidepressants, lowering the amount of serotonin? not many side effects, seems to be easier to get off of. and go figure, its banned by the FDA.

i'd ideally like to take it under advisement of a physician, but it looks like its not even available for off label use, here in the US at least. any equivalents or analogues?

Unfortunately, no; it's hard to say what would work like it. It acts on the glutamate system, so other glutamate modulaters like racetams or ampakines might come close. The SSRE activity is not to my knowledge replicated by any other compound.

You may wish to consider ketamine as an antidepressant; the procedure has been documented by Jamshyd.

A friend of mine was on Mirtazapine for a few years, and he could still roll on MDMA. In fact he said it made his rolls stronger!

I should explain better: he would take Mirtazapine normally every night before sleeping, but on the night of the party not take it (of course) and roll extra hard, then come home and take the Mirtazapine and it would help him wind down, relaxe, and go to sleep.

Depakote helps me out, i just got Rx'ed it.

it is a GABA increasing mood stablilizer, anticonvulsant, and anxiolytic/sedative.

For the alcohol, I'm on naltrexone + piracetam and valium/librium if I relapse badly. This has been keeping things pretty well managed for the most part, sin the depression. It's also helping me with my memory.

Found this thread which is a good reference for what I'm looking for. http://www.erowid.org/experiences/exp.php?ID=14231

Generally a nootropic, anxiolotic, and anti-depressant combo. I would like to continue MDMA usage as it's helped me in the past and continues to, so SSRIs seem to be out of the question.

Tianeptine would be possible to obtain it seems, but expensive considering its not approved in the US. I'd be interested in trying it, though there doesn't seem to be all too many people that have or too much research on it.

I recently received a prozac rx, which I've refused at this point. Does anyone know any other options that would help me with the depression without hindering (and perhaps enhancing experiences/reupregulating neuroreceptors).

Other thoughts: Selegiline (parkinsons drug) - used off label to treat depression, feeling this may help with the alcohol cognitive impairment problems.

Vincopetine/Picamilon/SJW - All herbal, limited research and info.

tianeptine is crap, its harolded mostly by people who havent tried it. I mean sure it works for some people, but IMO its shit.

It felt dopaminergic, but weakly. Not worth it. Certainly no empathetic or happyness factors to it.

I've tried it, I like it. It mellows me out more than truly making me happy, I just feel content on it. What kind of dosages have you tried? For me 12.5 mg works, others might need a little more. Then again, I take it intermittently, not on a 2-3 times daily regimen. And as for anything, your mileage might vary, sorry to hear it didn't help you out.

I used to take AMT everyday, its a serotonine/dopamine releasing agent, lacks pretty much all side effects seen with SSRI's, however as its no longer in clinical use and only had a history in the sovjet union it could pose unknown risks.

I barely have problems with depression but completely pulled me out of a depressive episode once, also works wonders for my adhd (better then amp actually)

Ive had tianeptine at the end of dextroamphetamine abuse. It did in fact give a bit of an antidepressant/anxiolytic effect, fell asleep and got a bit of midsleep vertigo stangely. I would try it again for free.

I started looking into Selegeline. Its for PD, but it was approved for use for depression.

It's a MAO-B inhibitor, maybe mao-a at high doses.

I think this looks like a good nootropic option for alcohol related memory problems that I suffer along with piracetam. I dont know if I can convince my doc for an off label rx for it though.

Some have reported anxiety, which seems slightly counter-productive.

Any thoughts on the anti depressant effects? Anything else new out there thats approved in the US?
