Squint

I trace the curve of a lie from beginning to end,
the description of the arc more interesting
than the arc or its endpoints, its anchors.
I build We where nothing else is, an absence
I can do no dishonor that i won't admit
and will not offer to uncover.
You emerge unspecific from data gathered
as I satellite and iris out, find
your fragments in a thousand queried
faces, your formative feed
transpires blurred but transparent
though veils of locked lashes: narrow eyes
reduce sight to shimmer and sliver, force
confusion over form, transpose
color with shape, a skeleton of symbols--
the induction of you being slowly constructed.
Dream an event and allow it to unfold
pregnant with meaning and lustre, uncoiled
without having to occur: we danced, we
did not have to touch; I remember you
only where you never were
as you never were, invoke you again
as convenient, as written,
as always.
