i recently was reading a book on daoist health, and came across a segment which suggests trying squatting when going to the toilet, as opposed to sitting
all other animals and our closest relatives, primates, squat down with their knees drawn to their chests when nature calls. most humans today even defecate in this manner esp. in asia, middle east and africa
only in the industrialised west do we sit down for BM just as we sit down to eat, apparently this could be the cause of chronic constipation and haemorrhoids.
bcus nature wants us to squat, our digestive system thanks us for it because there is a straight passage, bowel -> bowl, as opposed to sitting down which causes the lower end of the descending colon to bend, which means it takes a lot of muscular effort to clear the bowels. this can put pressure on capillaries causing haemorrhoids to form.
theres so many benefits to it, i'm surprised nobody has really brought up the subject to me, i know its an "ew, grossss" topic, but its pretty nifty imo
to do it, just remove pants/undies/shoes/socks (not just around ankles, get those panties off!), and put ur feet on the rim with the seat down (if you have just shoes on, then seat up with feet on rim still), and squat with your hands balancing you on something nearby, and just let loose.
ive been doing it for the past 2 weeks, and going to the toilet is no longer something that bores me or i am apprehensive about, i also spend about 1/3 of the time i used to, and i feel like i pass more through my system than usual.
it takes a tiny bit of practice to get used to it, but its worth it..
anyone else out there do this besides me? do you think its gross? if so why?
if youve never done it before, i challenge you to try it for yourself and see if it makes any difference.
