Spy vs. Spy

I was told that all e-mails to representatives are automatically deleted, and so it's better to write letters (this was about a different, non-drug related issue BTW, it was about a tax thing in our area).

I also have this fear (probably paranoid), that anyone mailing/e-mailing about this/drug policy in general, gets added to some big list, full of IRS harassment, phone tapping, basically the 'get fucked over in general' list.

I'll write a paper letter to my rep though.

Is there any benefit to not making it anonymous?

A lot of people at concerts will be headed to jail.

Hahaha how are they gonna deal with that?

After a concert, they get 100,000 people lined up at the police station, a few with nothing to do stop in at the precinct in the next town over...

"Yeah I saw a guy smoking a joint in the front wearing a red shirt go check it out GOGOGO!"

"Yeah me too, and there was a guy snorting crap in the bathroom and he came out with white stuff on his nose. He had shaggy hair. Go get him."

"Yeah I was there too and I saw some guy in drag popping pills!"

I guess no one else read the original text, cause there's another provision no one's mentioned which I'm especially fond of - the non-reporting sentence gets bumped to a 3 year mandatory minimum if you're the parent of a kid under 18 and you discover they've been involved with drugs.

Wow.

Isn't it true that in some states you can legally watch someone else die without doing anything?

^Thats true in all states unless you a) know the person or b) they are family. So technically they actually have a legal precedent if you erase the distinction between someone killing themselves with drugs and drowning in a pool. I think that is what that anti-drug commercial is about with the kid watching the other kid drown.

I just wish this was one big nasty joke.
Canada here I come.

As far as I and the rest of my Aussie friends are concerned, that's not such a bad idea. Don't get me wrong I'm sure the US is a wonderful country, but your political system scares me so much that I'm paranoid about even visiting the place, let alone living there. Instead I'm off to the European Union, where I can friggin drive to Amsterdam. Yay!

Seriously though, I will be absolutely amazed if something like that passes. It's simply not practical.

For all the fucked up things that have happened in Britain, I can't think of anything that approaches that for pure pig ignorance.

I really feel sorry for everyday, decent people in America who have to put up with this retarded sort of policy direction.

Come live in the UK - other than the weather, it's not a bad place

Fuck the politicians who come up with this shit and fuck all the stupid people who voted for the morons! I don't see how anyone could vote for people like that. Or how they could re-elect bush.(I think the election was rigged)

I would never report anyone for using or selling drugs. Not even my worst enemy.

The only effect that this would have would be to destroy peoples lives for no reason and to tear families apart. Just imagine how it would feel to turn in someone you love and see them go to prison. Or how it would feel if they ended up in prison for not reporting your use. If someone I loved ended up in prison for not reporting my drug use I would not be able to live with the guilt.

Things like this just make me sick. And the sad thing is that most americans would probably see the new laws as a good thing. The average person who uses no illegal drugs thinks that drug users deserve to be locked up in prison even though they have hurt no one.

I am disgusted with my country. I would like to see it fall apart. I wish I could move to europe.

All of us American bluelighters are being attacked in the war on drugs, it up to us to be part of the counter-movement. It would be great to be able to move to Europe but to move there from the US and get permanent citizenship you first must have money or be skilled and able to make money. Might as well use that money and those skills to change your own country when so many others have done their part and stand up for rights by protests and lawsuits.

Why are these people in office? Is it impossible to stop them?

From an Australian's point of view, it seems only 50% of Americans bother to vote. Your President gets returned with less than 50% of votes cast. Now if that 50 something % that voted for the other guy could be just stuck in prison then there'd be no need for elections at all. And you call your country the land of liberty and freedom? 8)
