Is bleeding during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy normal? I am 12 weeks pregnant and noticed that I have spotting for a few days now, I see brown or pink, similar to what you see at the end of your period. What causes spotting during pregnancy? How can you tell the difference between spotting and bleeding?

Hello Garnet, I see that this was posted a week ago but I just stumbled upon it tonight. I was concerned about you and wanted to ask if you are okay?
Sometimes it is not uncommon for spotting to occur in pregnancy but it really depends on the woman. The causes of spotting during pregnancy can be serious so this is definitely something you should go get checked at a doctor's office.
In general, brown spotting is usually old blood and the redder it is, the newer it is.

Hello garnet888, I also had some spotting before. A mild spotting in brown color is quite normal. But, It could be a bit alarming if the spotting is already in yellow accompanied by a foul odor because it could be a sign of an infection. If that's the situation, I encourage you already to monitor changes and inform your Ob right away.
