Speed (Amphetamines) addiction

Hello everybody!

I just wanted to know if a daily usage of amps (streetamps, but kinda very clean here) is dangerous. I am taking it for about 1 year now, not every day but at least every work/school day. My dosage isn't very high and i dont augment it (in fact, my usage decreases since i stopped smoke pot).
My fear is that i develop a habit, and i know it is very hard to stop them. I use them like i would drink coffee, so i take like 1/8 of a pill like 2-3 times a day, and i dont take them too late so my sleeping time is quite good. I've read alot about speed addiction, and i know they are very awfull, but will i get addicted like them if i just go on on taking the same dose, as i would drink my coffee?

Thanks for taking the time to answer this question!

Taking amphetamine on a near daily basis is always risky. Keep your dose low like what you are doing right now. 1/8th of a pill 2-3 times a day is very low, I'm surprised you've been able to keep it down that much after a year of (almost) daily usage. If you've been able to do this, avoid addiction, for this long then you should be good but the longer you are on it the bigger the risk. But yes, there is the possibility of becoming dependent. No one can tell you when you will, if you do.

Amphetamines are highly addictive drugs, so no matter what dose you take and how often, you will eventually come to a crossroads. At some point the 1/8 of a pill dose will no longer work anymore and you will have to increase your dose (succumb to tolerance) or give it up altogether. If you choose to succumb to tolerance and increase your dose then that will be the beginning of your dependence on amphetamines.

I'm surprised you've been able to go a year without becoming dependent. Its possible you may be without knowing. Have you tried stopping it for a few days and see how you felt without it?

Seconded.

You should try stopping cold turkey and seeing if you have any withdrawal symptoms. Amphetamine addiction/tolerance can sneak up on you.

variation on the above: take a solid week off and see how you feel.

for a lot of people, the acute withdrawals from speed include sleeping a great deal, eating a bunch of sugary foods, and feeling a sense of having no energy at all that trends towards depression.

its not like opiate withdrawals which are true hell. so, if you take a break and are waiting expecting to start getting the hot-cold sweats and the screaming shits it doesn't mean you aren't addicted.

chances are good if you can't make it through a reasonably longish break without fiending you're addicted. but its good to know what quitting cold turkey feels like, cause one day yer gonna hafta.
