Speculative Question:Do you ever think another drug will get a reputation like weed?

Legal mushrooms were trailed in Britain only 5 yrs ago due to a legal anomaly and although this was quickly clamped down upon, it does lend some evidence that this could possibly be the next likely legal drug of note.

With countries like NZ introducing laws that allow research chemicals to be tested and the sold to the public perhaps it is more likely to be a new, as of yet undiscovered chemical that is made legal. As restrictions on development and research is lifted we may see drugs without any side effects other than the pleasurable ones released to the public. Alcohol is one of the safest drugs out there. There is more chance that tobacco would be made illegal before they would consider opiates as a sensible recreational drug option. Any new legal high would have to not only be safe in even high doses but also have next to no physical addictive properties.

Reality is it is more likely that digital drugs, where cybernetic implants feed drug like stimulant effects directly into the brain is our best hope. Almost like a virtual reality for the psyche. It would bypass most other major organs and there fore have little physical danger as well as being a measured and predictable experience. This kind of technology would require such an advanced level of understanding of neuroscience that many of the side effects of conventional drug use such as serotonin syndrome would be able to be quickly detected and avoided. Such a level of scientific understanding would also allow proper treatment of mental illness.

There have been times in the past where i've thought Codeine was getting pretty close to the status of Marijuana. Look at some of the music videos from Three 6 Mafia or just listen to some Dj Screw and you'll notice many, many references and even see bottles in the videos. And nobody really seems to call them out on it (well, not anymore at least. Dj Screw's death brought a bit of hate for the drug).

Here's a few examples. BTW, they're also some of my favorite songs.

But is physical dependance really that bad? Caffeine and to a lesser extent, nicotine (in the form of vaping, not cigarettes) don't get such a bad rap as opiates. Not to mention all anti-depressants and prescription medicines such as benzodiazepines.

Physical dependance would never be an issue had the drugs been easy to aquire. Physical dependance only becomes an issue because of the current laws.

That being said no other drug deserves the same reputation as weed.
