Speak Your Mind on the OD Rules

Use micron filters. What else is there? Since that is the only thing you can do, there is no reason to discuss it further.
that pretty much ends it.
any other threads about it just waste forum space to state something thats been covered many times before

Using tap water to fix is dangerous/reckless? Guess I am just lucky.

^ And you still don't get how your position is contrary to harm reduction. Thanks for demonstrating my point: you guys (mods) really don't get harm reduction at all.

I beg to differ, I think all of us mods know what harm reduction is all about. It's extremely easy to criticize. If we allow threads on IVing pills then we're not setting the bar high enough, but if we disallow these threads we're not giving people potentially life saving advice. Both points are true. I agree with sixpartseven. There's very little HR related advice to give when it comes to IVing suboxone/subutex. Usually when we decide to close a thread we will at least point the original poster in the right direction so they can get the info they need.

The fact is that a lot of users just don't care about harm reduction and we can't make them. If these users get upset because their threads are always getting closed then it sure isn't breaking my heart. Bluelight isn't the only drug board that exists.

There are valid ways to significantly reduce the harm for people who are injecting ("abusing") their opiate treatment. A 0.2 micron wheel filter correctly used will remove basically all dangerous particles from a subutex mix. Is it now against the guidelines to explain how someone would use one to filter their subutex? How is that harm reduction?

It seems to me that the current crop of OD mods have an undeveloped understanding of both the ethics and mechanics of harm reduction.

I never knew that other people had problems with this mod (johanneschimpo) but I recently saw that he closed a thread where someone was asking for advice after taking methamphetamine for the first time, he thought he was going to be high forever (which is stupid but understandable).

The reason was that the OP's spelling and grammar were off. I had no problem whatsoever comprehending this dudes post but it wasn't good enough for johanneschimpo...

People coming off meth are often in a fragile state of mind. Considering this was the OPs first time using meth he was probably scared, sleep deprived and in need of reassurance. He thought he was going to be high forever and this is often a reason why people commit suicide...I'm not saying that will happen but it is/was a possibility.

In the name of reducing harm please unlock the thread.

I've only got a problem with this thread. Don't have any other problems with the mod in question...yet :)

^Being on drugs is no excuse for poor posting etiquette. Almost all the members and staff here are current or former drug users and the majority of us still manage to follow the rules and be professional. JC said if the guy wanted to he could repost his question as long as he was more coherent about it. That seems perfectly reasonable to me.
And for all we know that member could've received PMs from other members answering his question(s).

Ill try to rephrase:

Someone who is on the bupe program with the full intention of only using the prescribed meds when they are not able to obtain other full agonist opiates are wasting precious space in clinics, thus causing others who would take the program seriously to be denied. Buprenorphine is a blessing in pill form, and anyone who does not take or want the full advantages it has to offer should respectfully decline to be involved in the program, allowing someone else to take their place.
.

Who are you to decide who deserves Bupe and who doesn't? I guess that's just your opinion but it sounded quite judgmental.

People who still shoot dope might not go and bash someone for money if they have a dose of bupe waiting for them :P It's not perfect but it can still reduce harm.

I guess this isn't really relevant to the topic though...

Bup has been a miracle drug for me. Although I disagree with people using it to maintain a heroin addiction - I can't say they don't deserve it any less than the next person.

For all we know he might have taken his life :P that's not the point.

Being strung out for 2 days on meth is a really good excuse for his 'posting etiquette' not being up to standard.

The thread I'm talking about made perfect sense to me and I'm sure almost anyone could figure it out if they speak/write English.

How coherent does a post need to be? Are there some type of rules for this? Many people understood the post fine.

What if English WAS his second language? johanneschimpo said he would give a 'pass' if that was true.

basically - the original posters thread has the potential to reduce harm. his spelling and grammar will not harm anyone.

If you guys are just trying to make an example of him maybe try and do it on a post that isn't so important.

I agree completely. I understood what he was talking about, and if I were in his place I would really appreciate constructive responses. I rarely post, but I felt it necessary to say that we shouldn't deny someone help because of punctuation, spelling, or grammar, especially if it's understandable and legitimate.

I saw that he can repost his question, and I have no problems with any mods, but I hope that we don't deny anyone advice in the future.

=D

Christ and luxurious, I undertand what you guys are saying, but I'm only repeating what's been posted by various mods/admins, and that is that being on drugs is definately not a good excuse for not taking the time to post properly.
And as far as how coherent a post needs to be, your asking the wrong guy. I dont make the rules here. I was only trying to explain them to you.
I was able to understand the post as well because I too am American. However, bluelight is a global community and not everyone is on the same side of the globe.
You guys(as well as all other non greenlighters) are free to PM him if you like and try to help him you know? Help dosen't always have to come from the public forums.

Youre right, I have no weighing decision on who receives bupe treatment and who doesnt, but I do have a weighing decision on the way the forum runs.

Read that how you wish.

I see that you agree with my opinion (sort of) so I wont take it any further.

There used to be a rule about making your posts legible and easy to comprehend. No one (except you) wants to read a big blob of text with horrible grammar and punctuation. JC gave the poster a perfectly polite response, and gave him a chance to recreate the thread with better grammar. No one is going to close it if he decides to repost it, so the ball is in his court.

I could somewhat understand the post, but at first it seemed he was talking about coke, then all of sudden hes high on meth two days later.

Common sense should tell anyone that you wont be high forever. If you dont know that, you have no business taking drugs.

Awful shit like that harms me. It harms my brain, my intelligence which I have spent much time accumulating. I don't feel like losing it because other people can't spell or use punctuation.

This forum is intended for intelligent discussion of drugs and harm reduction, not incoherent rambling and "halp am i dieieing?" questions. People need to start using common sense and searching (whether it be here or google or a book) before posting. As delta9 said many times, being "high on drugs" is no excuse for acting stupid, not searching, typing like a mongoloid, etc.

No problem dude - you're the boss.

seems like this group of mods are not in the 'spirit' of bluelight. I've been here for many years (with different usernames and times of absence) and it seems like you guys don't really care all that much. I'm sorry if that offended you it's just the way I've interpreted your moderating and posting over the last few days.

Yeah I know a few days isn't a large amount of time and I guess you probably DO care because you can be stuffed being a moderator in the first place.

It wouldn't hurt to be a bit nicer, friendly is all I'm saying. Take that however you want :)

I'm not a mod and don't know what it's like. I'm sure there's a method to your madness my post is just saying how it came across to me. Thanks for taking the time to moderate the forums anyway...I'm sure it isn't an easy job all the time.

We dont care? Lets go over the "Job Benefits" of being a Moderator:

We work for free
Not only do we work for free, but we sacrifice valuable free time from our "real" lives to do this.
Its a thankless job. We get lots of PM's from angry posters, but never a "youre doing a great job!' PM from happy posters.

I think if we didnt care, we wouldnt be here. Also, if we didnt care, you wouldnt be posting in this thread right now, so either your living through one incredible paradox, or we actually do care.

And did you know, admitting to owning multiple accounts is a Bluelight Felony???

Ill stop derailing this thread now. Youll all have to excuse my behavior as of late. I do apologize.

Seems to me the whole point of starting this thread was because the mods were letting a lot of threads slip under the radar lately and not being as strict as they maybe should've been.
It's obvious your concern stems from a general concern about the site itself, and of course, its members...which is good, however, the necessary steps one should take when adressing a problem with a moderator are outlined in the Greenlighter's Guide :
What if my problem is with the moderators? Who do I contact?

Please make a reasonable attempt to resolve the issue with the moderator(s) in question privately. If that fails, contact the support staff at http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/contactlist.php and explain the situation. When you do so, remember the following :
--Once again, be polite and patient.
--Include any communication you have had with the moderator(s) in question.
--Clearly indicate the problem and include links to illustrate what you are talking about
Bluelight gives a lot of power to the moderators to manage the day-to-day operation of the forums. Making a difficult judgment call or committing a simple human error does not mean a moderator was derelict in their duty. Please note that the complaints procedure stops with the administrators. If you are still unsatisfied, just laugh and remind yourself that Bluelight is only a message board.
Anyway, I hope I'm not stepping on the OD mods' toes here, this really isn't my job, I was just trying to help :\

^ My toes dont hurt. Youre good.

Minor issues with Mods could probably be brought up in here (i.e. this thread or that thread was unjustly closed by so and so, etc.), but if its something serious (i.e. you think they shouldnt be a mod, etc.) definitely discuss it through PM with another member of staff.

I personally wouldnt have a problem with that, but if my co-mods dont agree, I would definitely stand by their decision to keep that process completely private, so lets wait and see what they have to say.

On another note, I want to thank everyone, even the members who do not see eye to eye with us, for contributing to this "project". Im really happy with the response this thread has gotten, and the way you have all conducted yourselves in it. Im quite proud *tear*

This was going to be temporary, but I think its going so well that Im going to push for an indefinite (at the moment, it will be temporary none the less) extension on it, so keep up the good posts.

For whatever it's worth, a number of years ago this forum didn't have so many mods, it was phreex and I, then after he left it was just me for a short time, then another friend and I, then some others. The traffic was only slightly less, but perhaps not such a large percentage actually posted new threads. It is also quite possible that the quality of threads has gone down or that the redundancy has increased, though im not entirely sure as i haven't been paying attention...

This being said, although i don't know any of you guys, i would doubt you are doing a bad job. OD is a fast moving forum and can be, at times, tedious to moderate. And yes, the pay is terrible, but it is entertaining enough if you are into this kind of shit.

Nice to see you post.

I dont mean to get all mushy, but I always looked up to the advice you gave and the way you ran OD. Thanks for the support.

Ya probably from shooting suboxone dude.

There is a clear solution to the shooting suboxone moral crisis anyway. Send the guy to a previous thread or guide on it and close it. Which is what would or should be done anyway.

Isn't that simple?
