Speak Your Mind on the OD Rules

Look next to this post, under my username, post count, and join date. There is a button that says "Report." Click that, it will ask you for a reason that you are reporting it. Hit submit, and it will be sent out to the appropriate staff.
From NMI: Bluelight Lesson 101d: Using the 'Report' function

feel free to link to that, copy & paste it, cannibalise it, or ignore it as you see fit. :)

sonnyluv - That was a great post and sums up my feelings really nicely. The line between harm reduction or not, is arbitrary. I personally consider the FAQ: What to do when someone overdoses contains dangerous misinformation that is totally counter harm reduction. But I was told "arguing about it isn't going to change anything" by a mod when I commented on it. That's a really serious topic and it seemed to me like the mods couldn't handle dissent. I still want to know: who's harm is reduced when you move an unconscious person so the cops don't bust you instead of, say, placing someone in the recovery position?

Yeah, I ignored that whole thread completely, even though it is an area of expertise for me. I mean the question itself is about basic life support, about ABC's: airway, breathing, check pulses but the thread was so dangeroulsy convoluded with misnomers and bunk i didn't even want to jump in.

Sonnyluv, I would have commented on your post earlier, but I didnt have the time. I just finished reading it, so here we go:

First, I appreciate all you have to say. The thing is, even inside old time BLer regulars, there still lurks and excited little noob. Ill admit that Im totally guilty of losing my cool and professionalism when I see a topic that Im really into or have a lot of thoughts on. I

I like that you take notice of things like this, and Id suggest when you see something of this nature, even if its a mod that does it, report it or PM someone on the senior staff (senior mod or admin) that way it wont go unnoticed and could be corrected.

keep it coming guys.

Cheers. I absolutely will use the report button. I felt like it was obnoxious before for using it before but it truly serves a purpose. Thanks for the info and your comments on my comments

BUT. And that's a big but. I don't understand what the issue is with threads asking if this and that or such and such will get someone higher. No it's not harm reduction per se, but it's not harmful either. And seeing as it's definitely about other drugs and won't be allowed in any other forum, I say it does in fact belong here. I say don't discriminate so much by thread subject, but rather by whether or not the question has been asked a million times before.

We want to get rid of the general attitude that Other Drugs is the best place to come to find out how to get more fucked up. More often than not, advice on how to get higher is harmful, in that it's less safe than other methods of taking a drug.

OD forum has turned into a haven of what seems to be younger people trying to get as fucked up as possible. 2 years ago i posted a thread about how a doctor prescribed me pediatrician syrup for a legit upper respritory infection. I got flamed by everybody for trying to get high on scripted meds. Now it seems we have countless, COUNTLESS, people coming in here with threads like "I get scripted opana and oxycontin, i shoot oxycontin, i prefer oxycontin, i take the opana orally but it doesnt work.....any other way to get fucked up off this stuff"....6-7 people chime in......"Snort that shit up bro." or "dilute and shoot." with an additional 1-2 people saying "Don't abuse your scripts you get em for a legit reason. this is abuse. this is not harm reduction." Not to mention the countless kids in here that state they are on 5 different downers at one time....5, really? why? And hardly anyone warning them to slow down. As the site gets bigger and bigger i think its just going to be a case of more mods in more forums. IMO the only way to decrease this would be to start warning and reporting people like mad. Fuck em, they dont take the time to read then perma-ban em. I used to come in here and gain information now i spend my time surfing through "QUICK IV QUESTION" or "Xanax, rohyphnol, weed, oxycontin question" or "URGENT URGENT URGENT I IVED OXYCONTIN AND NOW I HAVE A HUGE LUMP ON MY ARM." IMO the search engine problem is a given on any forum. lazy people exist too. But all the threads AND PEOPLE WHO START THE THREADS CONSISTENTLY should be banned and deleted. JMHO, JS......NBD

^I understand what your saying, and your right, there is a rediculous amount of urgent or self serving threads made by people who really dont read the rules or read them and dont care, but I think the mods understand the we, the members, are bluelight, and if they start banning everybody there wont be a forum left for those of us who really do practice and advocate harm reduction. Most people get the hint after they get warned or after their thread(s) is closed.
I'm not gonna tell the OD staff how to run they're forum, that's their job, and to be completely honest, I know I wouldn't want to mod OD and have to make the decisions they make and also make all the enemies the probably have too :\
Bottom line, they're doing what they think is best for the site and it's members, and I think they do an amazing job, and a thankless on at that, and I have a great deal of respect for the entire staff here, OD included.
I think we should see how things go in the coming weeks and go from there.

^ I'm not talking about banning the folks that are here for harm reduction, practice it, and preach it. I'm not yelling handles n names but I'm talking about the newer gen or bluelight, seems to be bluelight members in '08 have yet to read the rules and obide. I looked yesterday at a thread with the mentioned "opana, oxycontin" etc. thread dude has double digit threads damn near just like the one i witnessed yesterday.....join date? Jan 08...I'm not criticizing the mods i understand its a huge forum and theres only so much that can be done and i agree WE as BLUELIGHT MEMBERS needs to start reporting, i hate to be like that ive never used the damn thing but i used to love this forum and it was one of alot of knowledge and now that there are all these bullshit threads its like you have to dig around just to get that good information. It also makes it alot harder for folks who enjoy giving GOOD advice.

Part of the problem lies with the difficulty of defining/agreeing on the goal(s) of harm reduction.

re: MemphisX3

Yes. When I look at the join dates of the members for most of the new threads, its March or April 2008.

Perhaps there's a way to make it so when a greenlighter clicks on "create new thread" the guidelines appear, much like how you get that pop-up when you have a private message. "True" pop-ups wouldn't work, because everyone has them blocked now, but the kind of pop-up that is within the page.

Well actually, that tactic could be used for a lot of things...

DAMN GOOD IDEA! ccm got a point too!

Yes, yes I totally understand that harm reduction is the priority here. But reading drug pornography can be very enjoyable. I totally agree that a lot of crap should be filtered out (especially the am I ODing right now what should I do? type threads).

I like the policies posted by you GM, yesterday. Simple but inclusive.

If anything needs to be added in the future this could be a good debate thread

But I am pleased in what it is now and that there wasn't a drastic change in policy which I thought there would be.

OK looking at it there are none that are new. I have some suggestions, I haven't yet read through the whole page so bear with me.

-This should be common etiquette, but no putting down users in any way for the decision that they made. A certain member on here has a habit of doing this. I think it is OK to try to persuade a member not to do whatever it is they are doing, but if you are going to then it shouldn't be allowed to come off as condesending or aggresive. Mostly, when a poster has made a post asking a question on how to do something safely, anything other than answering their questions is off topic. This type of atmosphere would allow posters to ask more embarassing questions that would in turn help with harm reduction. So, in short, make it a rule that even if you disagree with what a person is doing, unless it is potentially deadly/extremely harmful the replies should only be directed towards the original question. A "I don't think you should do this, but if you are..." Is what this board is ABOUT! Where else can you get information like this?

-This is more of a suggestion, but I don't think threads that veer off topic should be closed. They should be allowed or moved to a subforum. There are some that end up turning into potentially illegal talk but healthy discussion and conversation between members will only help to make our community closer, and I think that is a good thing.

- No "How much of X should I take" posts. Dosage posts always have one answer - we can't tell you. Titrate the dose. Though this is also a self-serving thread and does fall under the category - however, I think it should be mentioned somewhere in the rules.

All I got for now.

^ Your first point is really good. I agree that in order to maximize harm reduction we need to keep the environment here friendly. Any overly aggressive and negative behavior needs to be stopped. People can't be afraid to ask questions, even if they aren't the most intelligent questions. Fortunately I haven't seen too much of this behavior lately. Most of our members here are pretty chill for the most part.

And the ones that aren't end up finding out no one appeciates their input either and eventually the problem is taken care of on it's own. Still, I think it would be nice to have written as rule.

There are new policies? Oh.

These were added yesterday on top of the changes that were made a few weeks ago:

- No posts or threads about abusing drugs unless they're about how to avoid abuse, treat abuse, or about the negative effects of abuse.

- Intelligent discussion about the effects of drugs only. Discussions on how much drugs "fuck you up" are prohibited.

- No posting your script. How much you get per month, how much someone you know gets per month, how much you or anyone else has.
