Speak Your Mind on the OD Rules

Honestly there is no real way to make people use the search engine. Choosing the right terms to search for, location of the search itself, and peoples own level of patience (or lack of) are all parts of this. The constant reiterating of certain things (snorting benzos, etc), while they may be aggravating and you might think you are just beating a dead horse saying again and again that doing certain things are dangerous or useless, at least people are getting truthful information instead of nothing.

i think the mods do a fine job. i've had some posts removed a couple of times and the mods actions were completely warranted. keep up the good work. as far as people using the search engine, it's not gonna happen, no matter how many times ppl bitch or reply "UTFSE!". honestly, how many of you frequent other forums? every forum i've been a part of always has the same problem. nobody ever uses the search engine. the best thing that could happen is for the mods to delete the same repetitive posts, which in turn means more for the mods to do. that's my $.02

^ Good point. That's how I've always seen it. Even though we teach some of the same lessons over and over again, we're teaching them to different people each time. Unfortunately, all the repetitive threads don't create a great environment for our veteran user base here who expect us to hold the forum to somewhat of a high standard. It's all about keeping some kind of a balance between helping newer users and drawing the line when it comes to "bad" threads. I often try to just answer people definitively and close their thread. I pissed off a lot of people by doing this, but I still got rid of a lot of would-be repetitive threads.

If you guys want to make a more social thread you can always plod on over to Drug Culture! Thats what we're here for. :)

I think that the new rules are great. I don't contribute here much but I definitely come and poke around once and a while. Good to see OD revert to its original mission. :D

Sonic,
I am one of those people that got a little chapped because one of the threads I made a comment on disagreeing (not disrespectfully) with a mod got snipped because, ostensibly, the thread needs to be updated (it was posted April 4).
What some of us take issue with is some of the cuts seem arbitrary. Yes, I know that mods are human, but fairness is a big issue always, everytime. If a mod is not able to handle/process a poster not agreeing with their stance, maybe a mod that can handle those type things would be better suited for the position. You say that all of the mods are looking out for "what's best for the forum." Cutting the thread because of a personal agendas or feeling pissy because someone does not agree with your viewpoint is not best for the forum. IMHO.

As far as people new to the site, please do try and remember that we do not know protocol or how to do everything perfectly and to every BLters satisfaction. It is not what you do, it is the way in which you do it. A lot of people equate harm reduction with pro-drug, and you get youngsters logging on (and oldtimers and everything in between) that post carelessly and without thinking. Other have NO CLUE what harm reduction even means and assume this is the place to "learn new tricks and facillitate maximum intoxication." So, I plead with y'all to have a little patience (or continue to have patience, if you prefer that).

As far as getting people to read things, you are SOL. I run an office where cell phones and purses are not allowed. On the front door there is a large sign that says NO PURSES AND NO CELL PHONES. Now, I ask you, what is your guess on how that sign works? (lol)

'And the sign sez that long haired freaky people many not apply
So I tucked my hair up in a hat and I went in to ask him "why?"'
I digress...

In closing, y'all do have a tough job policing this site, I have no doubt of that. And most of the mods I perceive to do a good job. Like it or not, mods are held to a higher standard than the rest of us. I am not saying that is right, I am saying that is how it is. Hopefully, ya'll chose mods becasue they are diplomatic, kind, knowledgeable, can mediate as well as play Devils Advocate, and do not patronize people.

Warmest Regards
CCM

Although I am a fairly new member here, I am not new to forums and I think you guys do a hell of a job with this one! I know that the OD section can be a real bitch to moderate because I have been a mod before myself,in a hobby forum that has nothing to do with anything like this site, but it had its challenges just the same.Seems like the od section is always the most viewed and probably the most searched as well, which leads me to think that if it could be broken up in more specific categories that it would help the search engine run smoother,I mean you have so many different drugs lumped into one section that when you do a search you get every one of them instead of a broken down specific thread of what you searched for in the first place. Now dont get me wrong, I could be talking out of my ass here but adding:Heroin discussion:Suboxone discussion:Methadone discussion:etc.....seems like breaking these into their own locations would help the search feature work a bit easier and would help keep threads and posts to stay more on topic.I dont know exactly how it all works(software)and my suggestion could sound ridicules to you but I just thought if it did work that way,it could be helpful.my 2 cents! Keep up the great work, love the site so far, I have learned quite a bit in a short time already! so Thank you! PF2D

The issue with people posting threads without using the Search Engine isn't anything new and there really isn't anything that can be done to stop it. It's just a given of any really busy forum.

hi everyone. ive been getting info from bluelight for a couple years, mostly to get reviews on mdma tabs, which was always pretty easy. But i recently had some questions about fentanyl patches, and i did use the search engine, a bunch of times. It seemed like the threads i got from it were all over the place, disorganized. I havent spent alot of time on messageboards, so maybe the disorganization is normal, i dunno. But I ended up wanting to post a new thread to kind of consolidate, maybe get the most up to date replies. I didnt post a new thread cuz it seemed like there were too many already, plus I asked a mod if I should but didnt get a response right away. Anyway I really like the messageboard, theres a ton of info here, and I like the "harm reduction" theme alot. there should be a harm reduction theme in everything people do. thanks for making this messageboard available :)

This is a looooong massive post/ half part soap box rant/ half part questions- but what a wonderful opportunity...
First off, it's pretty impressive that the mods of this forum are so functional and user friendly that they are willing to inquire and give feedback about how fellow BL's feel about resurging the mission statement of OD forum. Seriously, cheers. It shows a maturity that I would say the internet/blogs/the fucking whole world is lacking as a whole.

I dig the redirection, immensely of OD. The majority of my posts I feel like I am reminding people of the inherent dangers of our hobby and that negative , dangerous, reactions are lurking around the corner. I don't feel like it's my job, I don't get off on telling people the bad things THAT COULD happen to them like a parent, I just feel like people stop fucking thinking that this hobby/ experimentation is more pathophysiologically involving than say, coin collecting. and I hate getting flamed for it.
I always seem to get flamed on fentanyl and adderall posts the most. Especially fent though. I always get accused of being judgemental, and I'm not. Its almost like there is a competition- sort of like bulimics vs. the anorexics. Like who does the most, whose habit is worse, whose got the most experience- and I always run into this argument: using a lot of drug does not equate to safe, accurate, or reliable medical knowledge or sound advice. You mods are generally exceptional at providing info that is truly harm reduction but even you guys give out advice that is not sound and based solely on your impressive experiences. For whatever reason competition develops, often nasty, amongst BL'r, mods, about who has the best information from experience (and also I think whatever info appeals to the OP more to their needs and not necessarily to safety). And that is dangerous. But I ask the question again- is the number of experiences what makes you the shit on OD? Or is it sound advice? I truly don't know. I won't ever fuck with fentanyl unless its in a vial and I have a 3ml syringe. I mean I wouldn't anyway- but goddamn- stop trying to help people get the most out of patches. It is just too dangerous. Yes I know people will do it anyway but how accurately are people able to follow your directions? as mods you should be reminding people that your margin for error with fent is EXTREMELY small. Virtually immesuruably small. Don't advise people on anything but the inherent dangers of playing with the patches. What is safe about it? There is no safe practice for abusing fent patches.

Is BL responsible for people ill-informing each other when questions arise about drug usage? Are the mods legally, ethical, morally responsible when people are giving advice off the top of their head because it "sounds like a good idea" or "I saw that that worked on another thread"? Not sure- but you sure as shit are responsible when you moderate comments on working the fent patches. Just have a faq section only on fent patches.
When I worked in the ER I would see people on a weekly basis who assumed even if the patch has solid material inside then they can just plop it into a pipe and toke away. And about twice a week I would see OD's from people smoking gel. I have never seen a person OD from a vial of fentanyl.

2 weeks ago I got up at seven AM before I had to go to work- checked out BL and the followign scenario presented and I had to look at it like a RN, not as a drug hobbyist or truthfully, user. According to the post I assessed as follows "Pt is tachycardic, hypertensive, diaphoretic after using unspecified amount of cocaine on binge for two days. He states his BP is "160", he is reporting shortness of breath. He states he briefly was able to sleep but woke up in HTN (hypertensive) condition. He has found medication in his family members medicine cabinet and is trying to find a way to safely slow down his heart. One of the medications will help (beta blocker) and while not indicated for cocaine withdrawal would have positive side effects. The other drug is a diuretic which will more than likely put the pt into a life threatening electrolyte and cardiovascular disturbance which would easily cause death".
I tried to convey this in my posts, my message was not heard because the Bl'er kept obsessing about his fucking BP. He just wasn't hearing me. The other advice being given to him from another BL'er was "yeah go for it, I've heard that beta blockers help when you are coming down and you need to come down." The OP least concern was the doase of BB to take. Like, that's not harm reduction. That's taking recklessness and switching it with stupidity. No mod was present, probably sleeping like normal people. For some reason the consensus on OD doesn't seem to be, "Stop taking drugs if you don't know what they are, and especially if you don't know the appropriate dosage range" i.e. fentanyl. It's more like "I did this and this worked and if you say I shouldn't be doing it at all than you are a flaming prick." I think in this instance I just came across as snooty and melodramatic. I'm sorry but that dude could have easily died! BL'rs were just trying to validate if the combo of drugs would work. Clearly, striking a balance between drug exploration/habituation and harm reduction is very difficult indeed. And occassionally, I do see mods get off target. Sometimes it is almost as if the mods are their to validate if what the OP is posting would work chemically as opposed to , "what is the intent of this question being asked?" Most of the time you guys are awesome about stopping mischevous posts in their tracks.
I'm guilty of the hobbyist viewpoint as well though. I mean the potentiation threads- that's seriously about getting high. Hands down. And it is fascinating- ironically has really helped me understand pharmacology far more in depth than most of my colleagues. But what harm reduction purpose does it serve for your average enthusiast? Somebody asked a couple of weeks ago if anybody has OD'd from too much potentiation. I was kind of stunned, like how much more could you miss the the point, people die from taking too much of a drug that kills them.

I'm about to begin experimentation with poppy pod tea. I need to hear about the good times/bad times/ filtering processes that people have had. I don't want to OD myself. It is harm reduction, for people to talk about how high they get on PPT. I compile all that information an form a baseline opinion on how to safely indulge. Even down to the chemical level. But it seems like people like the chemistry nerds don't need the harm reduction, nor people heavily interested into details. Its the user who has randomly decided to mix medications based on even more random gleamings from posts that indicated the combo would work.
My major complaint toward the Mods is that you guys come across as the final correct answer for the chemical solution, but not as the voice of reason.
Chimpo-you are already an excellent moderator-but I feel like a lot of the time your motivation is more authoritative and one-upman's ship. I don't mean any disrespect. But tonight I read your post on "any young people getting scripted ambien". You said, "Not ambien here, but I'm young and I've gotten plenty of benzos and other things of that nature. Like someone above said, find more liberal (less strict) doctor." But the OP said "My schedule is constantly getting fucked up because I can't, or am not willing to try and fall asleep. If I had a pill I'd look forward to going to sleep." Not harm reduction. Ambien does not give the will to look foward to falling asleep. I think the OP's question was honest, she has insomnia secondary to stress. As an RN, we teach stress reduction before prescription. Does it work, I don't fucking know, but advising a kid to doctor shop isn't harm reduction. Chimpo, I don't mean to single you out or anything-and again afew weeks you re-directed me to the dark side which has proven to be an invaluable resource. Wish more OD'ers knkw about it. But I'm not sure why discussing the wretchedness of abuse is not as prevalent as the 5 million ways to take opiates.

Okay so this is waaay to long- I really appreciate the forum to pontificate, and I do want to thank you guys for your long hours and thoughtfullness. I know that working as mods for BL has made you millionares, but it is an incredible service you guys provide 99.9% of the time.

Some search tips:

- When you click the "Search" drop down menu at the top of the page, always use the Advanced Search option.

- Use specific key words. If you are looking for tips on shooting fentanyl for example, type the words "IV shooting fentanyl." (If you actually try to search for that, youll see its not the best example, but Im using it anyways.)

- Use the option search titles only. Its right underneath the area where you enter the keywords. It will greatly reduce the number of irrelevant results.

- Use forum specific searches. You can be sure that you wont find tips on shooting fentanyl Philosophy and Spirituality, so at the bottom right of the search page, click on Other Drugs, or Drug Basics, that way you will only get results from those forums.
that's it in a nutshell!

Infiniite Jest wrote an extremely comprehensive guide here in Support:

A Guide to Searching Bluelight

... which is probably too long, but i would suggest linking to your quick guide above (somewhere) would be more useful than just saying 'UTFSE'. :)

Sonnyluv, I would have commented on your post earlier, but I didnt have the time. I just finished reading it, so here we go:

First, I appreciate all you have to say. The thing is, even inside old time BLer regulars, there still lurks and excited little noob. Ill admit that Im totally guilty of losing my cool and professionalism when I see a topic that Im really into or have a lot of thoughts on. It could be a thread that totally violates the guidelines, but sometimes I get too excited and just want to make a comment. It can be dangerous, because maybe I support his idea of doing something that could be dangerous just because I do the same thing too, and think its cool or whatever that I found someone else interested in it. A good example of this would be me writing an FAQ on how to shoot suboxone and diphenhydramine together. Granted, I wasnt a mod when I wrote that, and now I take a hard stance against it.

It just comes down to being human. When you find someone else is interested in something that you are really interested in, its easy to lose sight of the real important things and get carried away with. I understand you arent accusing anyone of being a bad mod or whatever, and I appreciate that, Im just saying...we all make mistakes.

I like that you take notice of things like this, and Id suggest when you see something of this nature, even if its a mod that does it, report it or PM someone on the senior staff (senior mod or admin) that way it wont go unnoticed and could be corrected.

I dont think a lot of BLers realize how active they can be in the way a forum is ran. The Report Post feature is a very powerful feature of every forum. I urge you all to use it anytime you feel its necessary, and anytime you see dangerous or incorrect information being posted, correct it. Make a post saying why its untrue and post facts proving why. Trust me when I say your posts dont go unnoticed. I know us Mods do the best we can to read every post possible, but like I said before, we are human, and sometimes thats just not feasible.

Again, thanks for the comments. We really appreciate them.

keep it coming guys.

Basically I don't even browse around here much anymore, let alone post. This is a very different place than it was a few years ago, and being much stricter about the threads allowed would be terrific in my view.

BUT. And that's a big but. I don't understand what the issue is with threads asking if this and that or such and such will get someone higher. No it's not harm reduction per se, but it's not harmful either. And seeing as it's definitely about other drugs and won't be allowed in any other forum, I say it does in fact belong here. I say don't discriminate so much by thread subject, but rather by whether or not the question has been asked a million times before.

My suggestion? If your reaction to ANY thread is even mildly 'UTFSE asshole!', then delete that whole thread, or close it at least.

ALSO

Send all threads belonging in DB to DB. Basic questions belong in basic drug discussion. Questions on how to fix your opana for IV or sniffing benzos or whatever definitely belongs there, and not here.

i have to say the site has gotten better since jc has been mod. i would like to see something to report a thread that doesnt follow the rules or something of that nature.
maybe having to post in threads a good bit of times before being able to create one? at least 20+, maybe more. that would get noobs to search more if they wont be able to post threads that have been answered multiple times in the past.
and maybe have links to forum guidelines in really big text like the other focus forums. right now its a little small, the other focus forms really catch your attention. and a disclaimer beside it like read before posting would help?

Look next to this post, under my username, post count, and join date. There is a button that says "Report." Click that, it will ask you for a reason that you are reporting it. Hit submit, and it will be sent out to the appropriate staff.

As for the links to the guidelines, we have the new announcement at the top. It isnt much yet, but its new and we will be changing it.

Thanks for the suggestion.

That is 100% true. The absolute first thing I do when I log into bluelight, every single time, is check the reported posts and act accordingly. I do that before I even check OD. I will take care of every single reported post (which isn't hard to do, since not many people use the button) before I do anything "fun," such as reading and replying to threads in OD or other forums.

So that is huge. Remember that guys, Use the report button.

YES using the search function definatley needs to be reiterated for all new members , not that has something to do with not answering the questions but the fact that this forum is filling more and more everyday with the EXACT same questions on a 24 hr basis just because people dont want to do the footwork involved in using their drugs to a safe manner , all they want to do is get high thats it its not about harm reduction or safe practices .

those are my requests .. im sure their some others but im watching csi so my attention is skewed right now .

I believe that is true but you can lead a horse to water but you cant make them drink.... maybe the search should be made in a diffrent color or bolder so it stands out more and catches more attention maybe ppl will use it more.....

heh i was blind, never noticed it there. thanks. it would be nice to atleast put the noobs down with the report button.

Maybe we could even make a crash course for green lighters on the fuction of searching and have the complete a couple of random searches befor they can post and earn there blue light status.... just a couple of ideas
