Speak Your Mind on the OD Rules

Thanks.

I dont know about locking anyone out. I do agree that BDD should probably be the first place newer drug users and BL members go before coming to OD. Perhaps maybe we could somehow get a message across saying something about OD being more advanced or technical discussion of drugs, and BDD is more for...basic stuff? I dont know. Any ideas?

It also may have something to do with the fact that BDD is lower traffic = slower response. Unfortunately, we have no control over that. Perhaps if more of the newer users/BLer's went over there at first, the traffic would pick up.

Six,
And so what of it if y'all decided to take a stand on peeps abusing Sub? The line has got to be drawn somewhere.

Drug treatment may be a big friggin' joke to some, but to others it is deadly serious and a matter of life and death. I do understand that some get on the programs available to assist with their current habit and have NO INTENTION of cleaning up. I am on a program 'cause I wanted out of the nightmare I found myself in. I would hope that ppl seek tx 'cause they would like to work towards recovery. Naive, I know.

^ Thats exactly my point. How would you feel if you were denied the opportunity to get on that program because Flexistentialist took the last spot just so he could have some prescription bupe to shoot up everyday in a failed attempt to get high? Im on suboxone too, and I would have been pissed if I was denied or put on a waiting list because someone else wanted to use it as a temporary fix because they couldnt get dope money that day.

I rather be in support of you and help you find a way to get on the program than to encourage others to take up space in them just so they can shoot the suboxone.

What do you mean?

If you're using subs for maintenance (daily) it's not gonna make any difference if you use them sublingually or IV. If it's done daily (IV) there's no extra euphoria or such gained, nothing at all really...

If you got a needle addiction you will IV your subs!

IVing subs is an incredible waste of buprenorphine. Duration is low and tolerance rises faster, meaning you go through a lot more of it. Its not worth it.

This is going off topic though. This thread isnt for the discussion of why or why not, its about OD in general.

All I gotta say is, you don't see ADD [Advanced Drug Discussion] getting kids coming in asking how much vicodin they should snort so the 'advanced, technical discussion only' thing works for them. maybe there could be a friendly reminder that BDD is the friendlier alternative for newer members..

Well, technically, OD is more "advanced and technical" than BDD is, but even still, its not as advanced or technical as ADD is. Its not black or white, you know what I mean?

But yeah, I think a friendly reminder that BDD is there would be helpful.

No, I think youre taking what I said the wrong way. I was trying to keep discussion on this going, but I may have came off the wrong way. I apologize.

What I mean is, basically, BDD is, well, basic discussion ("how much of this gets me high?"), OD is a little bit more advanced ("would supplementing this with this prevent tolerance?"), and ADD is really advanced ("would changing this benzene ring make drug-x turn in to drug-y?")

What Im saying is, if we made it clear to newer members exactly what type of questions fit into which forum, it may help a little bit, but how do we do that? You feel me?

You guys have made a moral decision that injecting subutex is "bad" and so therefore no new threadsd can be started on the topic. No matter how you want to frame it, that constitutes restricting discussion about the topic, and that decision is made on moral grounds - this is against the principles of harm reduction.
If you have such a huge problem then go somewhere else. There are a million other places to find out informtion on shooting sub. Bluelight isn't one stop shopping for people looking to get high or abuse treatment programs.:\
Once again, and hopefully for the last time, Bluelight is not a democracy. The staff can do whatever the hell they want and they dont have to ask how we feel like they did with this thread. If you really want to make a change here, do it from the inside. Submit a mod application next time the opportunity presents itself.
Has anyone even taken their complaints up with the admins? Because that's what you're actually supposed to do when you have a serious problem with a moderator. It's clear at this point that going back and forth here isn't going to do any good.
Seems to me like at this point everyone's just bitching here in the public forum simply because it's public and they want everyone else to see it. :\

no, i definitely get what you meant, i just wasn't sure how to implement something like that, so like i said, you're the boss. as to how we could do that, it's a great question...so, you think barring greenlighters from OD until they obtain bluelight status is not feasible? i mean, based on the epidemic of trolls and repetitive threads you guys are apparently sick of it would be a bit drastic but i'd hardly consider it unimaginable.

^Maybe just make it so greenlighters cant start new topics, or maybe they can only start new topics in BDD? I dont think we should keep them out of OD altogether. And maybe make it like 50 or something posts until greenlighters can become bluelighters? That's not that many more posts. I made about 70 or so my first day, surely others can do it too :\

pinpoint: I dont think it would fly with the admins. Im sure the current forum software would allow it, very sure of it actually. I think it would also cause more problems than we already have. It would create a sense of...elitism? between the users allowed in OD and the users not allowed in OD. Even though its hard to deal with certain trends that arise here and there, we are pretty much forced to - for the sake of harm reduction - welcome all with open arms. Turning people away may not be the wisest thing to do.

Im not sure how to implement it either, but then again, thats what his thread is for. Maybe someone else has an idea.

That doesnt mean I dont agree with your idea, though.

Edit for delta_9: Changing the GL --> BL threshold would be something that would have to change site wide. Although it too is a good idea, I dont think the needs of OD would warrant that change. I like the idea of making it so that you can only reply to threads and not create new threads until you become a bluelighter, though. We could ask about that, but again, I dont think that is something that will happen either. It may be possible with the forum software, but with something like that, the final decision would rest on the shoulders of the admins.

you make a solid point. although i think the sense of 'elitism' is exactly what we need around here to show members that this isn't totse or some other degenerate forum. it's not like they can't go to BDD, which would be exactly what we would want them to do. although there are pretty good arguments for both sides, unlike some who have participated in this thread, i know the limits of my opinions, in most cases it ends with my post.

Makes sense. As long as the OD staff is up to the task of keeping those threads and posters in check then it's ok with me whatever you guys do. :)
I'm really glad it's not me modding OD, you guys have a level of patience I cant even begin to understand ;)

Understandable.:)
I realize the admins have final say here, and I didn't mean to sound like I was trying to put pressure on you guys or anything.
I do think it's a shame though that because a few bad apples are drawn to OD like magnets it's makes it worse for the rest of us. :\ But like you said, bluelight has to be fair to everyone.

No worries. Im just happy you guys are interested in this thread and are contributing. You can tell us whatever you want, however you want, as long as there is some respect in it, unlike certain posters.

But yeah, were up to the task. It really isnt as hard as it may seem, though. I bet you'd be a fine a moderator.

^Is that a job offer? ;)
Seriously though, I'm sure some days it sucks just like any other job. Although I'd be honored to be a part of the staff at a place like this though, no question. :) Bluelight's the best.
I wish some of the newer members had a little more of that "respect" I keep hearing so much about though...
...I'll stop with the de-railment now :|

Oh yeah, it definitely can suck sometimes.

In fact, Im supposed to be on vacation, starting yesterday. Mostly because of real life, but also because of stress from BL. Its not uncommon for mods to need vacations just like you would at a real job.

But yeah, Im done derailing too. And if you ever want the job, apply when we have an opening next.
