when i used to smoke heavily, occasionally i would get some cannabis that sparked like a flint when smoked. what the hell is that?
 
The stuff i got yesterday does this, with my stuff the ash left in the bowl is very hard aslo . I dont know for sure but im guessing its been sprayed with something.
 
Throw that shit in a grinder and make sure it's not loaded with sand to increase weight. I regret to say that happened to me once.
 
Did this happen during a blunt? And also was it dank bud? That has happened to me before smoking dank out of a blunt, and it's happened with stuff I know wasn't contaminated.
 
I have some white rhino at the moment that does the same thing. and its covered in crystal.
 
if grown in soil, one might feed the plants fertilisers etc during flowering.. once the plant is ready to be harvested, the plant is flushed (fed only water..no fertiliser) to take out all them chemicals etc. from the soil.
 
lol, got this the other day:
Lighting up a pipe with a friend, had a flintless electric lighter, so safe there.
But about halfway through the first drag, the piece was lit up niceley, and some sparks just jumped out of the cone. Quite the spectacle after having 4 or 5 :S.
There were no seeds in there from what i can tell either.

Doesn't something similar such as this happen in wood fires, where gasses trapped inside the wood expand, and then flick out embers in an explosion witnessed as a pop?
 
Isnt that to do with the size of the thrichomes or something? :S Im sure sparkling weed is good, alot of the really good bud Iv smoked has glistened under the light. Im sure I read that somewhere... Could be wrong...
 
if your talking about the bud crackling when you smoke it, then the bud was either over fertilized or not flushed properly/long enough.
 
I think it can also happen if your shit is too wet, be it as a result of humidity, improper curing, or soaked by someone who coughed in the bong. not that ANYONE would ever do that.

^^ Bingo! Sometimes the metals can build to a point where the weed won't even burn. The problem arises from the over use of bloom ferts and like itchy says, insufficient flushing. If built up too heavily, the weed won't ignite and burn in a joint at all. The only way to smoke it is to hold a flame over it in a pipe bowl. Thats when you get the sparks.
 
I don't know if it's because I live in California, but I have never once bought bad MJ. I've never even seen nor heard of "laced" weed from even a 3rd hand source. I know, though, that if I spark the lighter directly onto the bowl that sometimes the bits of flint can fly off onto the bud and kind of spark after 1/5th of a second or so.
