Spanish cannabis clubs

Does anyone know if people from outside of Spain are allowed to buy a temporary membership to the cannabis clubs there? There seem to be people saying they can. I'm particularly interested in Barcelona, which someone on facebook was saying was a decent alternative to dam :? I'm not too bothered if tourists can't, but if its possible it would be cool to pick up some nice bud whilst I'm over there :)

Few more articles with more info on it. It would appear you need a current member to act as your guarantor but I saw a guy offering marijuana tours of Barcelona where presumably he gets you into his club for a fee. I also read on another forum some Spanish guy saying you can get a month long membership for a fiver. Just wondering if any people can confirm this? Chilling in Barcelona with some grade would be great! I know its fairly easy to pick up hash and crappy weed there anyway though
 
You have to be referred by another member and have a medical condition that cannabis helps with as far as I know, cant just go in because you feel like getting wrecked like the dam.
 
Interesting, the last article I posted there described a cafe full of american students on a university exchange. I suppose if you're there for less than a month it's not worth the hassle. I had just thought that as Spain (and Barcelona in particular) are tolerant of Cannabis use it may have blossomed into something beyond 'medical' use
 
I did some research on this when I visited Barcelona a few years back, and concluded that getting membership would be a lot of faff as I didn't know any locals and don't speak particularly good Spanish. I can't remember if the clubs definitely sold weed, either - they might be more like the UK clubs.
 
getting excellent hash in spain is very easy without going thro a club malarky - just chat to some young barcelonians(sp) when i was living over there i use to get 10g of really nice rocky for about 25bquid.
 
I am a UK resident, living off the radar in Spain. I am living here permanently and am a member of two clubs. I'm not entirely sure off the rules. However, I was asked for my NIE number (Número de Identidad de Extranjero) which is basically, a number used for tax purposes letting you buy stuff in Spain as a foreigner but it is however, frequently used as a form of identification so much so that I keep it written in my wallet for whenever it is required. I am not a Spanish citizen, although I should be (more than half the year in any country means you should register), so I guess they don't require a whole lot of details for it but you won't get an NIE easily if you're just on holiday but if you're planning on spending a while here it's practically required, i.e for renting an apartment.

As blondin says, it's not hard to find good hash/weed in Spain, less so in Barcelona but still miles easier than UK. Sonar is coming up soon, La Ramblas will be packed with people selling gear and even the absolute worse smoke they sell is miles better than most UK stuff.

Swampdragon, they effectively do sell weed, it's just not advertised as that. The rule is you can legally grow two plants without prosecution but clubs have special dispensation and can also sell it within limits to their members.

Yes u can be a member,just go to the clubs near the tourist areas (Gracia) (Urquinaona) (sagrada familia) etc.
and there should be no problem for you to be a member of the club.
Im not Spanish and im member of 5 smoking clubs %)

I meant to mention this but forgot. A couple of my mates were in Spain recently. Not sure where exactly but I think they went to watch Formula 1 if that narrows it down (I might be wrong on that tbh). A dude working in their hotel hooked them up with a club membership. They had no idea about these cannabis clubs & assumed the guy was taking them to score off a standard street dealer. They wondered what in the name of fuck was happening when they walked into a building & a guy started photocopying their IDs n shit lol. The dude did have to kind of pretend they were his mates apparently, he didn't just rock in & shout "Sign up these tourists!" it was more like "My Scottish friends are in town, sign them up".

They said after the initial signing them in thing it was the cooshtiest thing ever. Big fuck off bar type place with pool tables, sofas, big tellys etc. Sounded quality. They said it was far, far better than chilling in an Amsterdam coffee shop. A lot more relaxed & like a private members club for people to hang about in (which it is I suppose) rather than just a place to buy weed. They went back a few times on their own with no problems at all & the weed was supposedly really good.

Depending how recently, but if it was a port based F1, Valencia and yeah they're not that cool round here, but i'm fairly rural.
 
I think this would actually be a great model for the UK to experiment with legal cannabis. Clubs could be given licences setting out the conditions under which they were permitted to operate, and closed down if there was too much misbehaviour.

The Conservatives are supposed to be the party of treating people like grown-ups and letting them make their own choices. They could placate the Daily Heil readers somewhat by playing up the regulation angle -- no minors allowed, no take-outs, no weed clubs near schools, drivers not allowed in the smoking areas, already plenty of places where you can't smoke even tobacco, that sort of thing.

There probably would be an explosion of weed club applications in the beginning, that would fall drastically in number as a few infractions were dealt with in a high-profile way; but the sky would not fall in, and everything would settle down to business as usual within a year or two.

Useful post Agozza, but I'm not sure about that last line.

The illegal market in Spain I've always found a lot more reliable than here in UK....some reallly very very good quality hash and coke about. No doubt a lot of shit too, depending where you are. But certainly hash I can't imagine not being able to get reasonable hash pretty much anywhere in Spain.

A lot of homegrowers there now too.

Yeah, I've heard stories of my Granddad charging the stuff to his credit card for my Grandma, fuck knows where specifically but it was definitely Spain. Possibly one of these Cannabis Clubs though as she did have various medical ailments, this was probably around 2004 so dunno if they were about then.

Might have to change my travel plans after uni if this is the case, be a bit easier on the joint pain (harrr) than constant ibuprofen use.
