Hello people. I have not been around in some time.

QUESTIONS
1. How do YOU space out your prescription? Raw self control?
2. How does your body/mind react when you have to go a few days without?

Me:
I am prescribed Adderall 10 mg 2x a day (BID).

Last month, I was given 35 10 mg Ritalin. So I took more than prescribed (usually 30 mg) AND ended up out for two days. I slept. A LOT.

I recently filled my Adderall again, and have such a hard time taking only 20 mg a day. I'm not going to ask my doctor for an increase yet. My best solution is to try and recover some of the loss I did this week with only taking 15 mg/day. I had my "all-nighter" for the month, now I am required to cut back if I don't want those 2 days of sleep/minor depression. Screwed myself.

Also, I am prescribed Klonopin 1 mg/day. I don't always take it and have lost my taste for it. I need ENERGY.

Thoughts?
What about you?

It is certainly hard to maintain self control...I think most of us would agree with that. Especially when you 1st get your script. What I would suggest is just allowing yourself certain days to use more than you should (indulge in other words) and the rest of the time, try very hard to use less than Rx'ed...that should leave you with enough so you're not running out. Try taking it once a day vs twice a day on some days as an example.

Your only other option really is to obtain it from the streets...or simply use it as it is prescribed...which if it were that easy...NONE of us would be here on BL! LOL

Asking your doc to increase it would be a temporary solution if anything...as you would only be tempted to use even more.

Have you tried those energy drinks to give you more pep?

Self control IS a tough thing to have. I constantly fight with it myself. The ONLY thing that keeps me in check most of the time is the lack of a reliable and consistent source! :0)

The answer yes is obviously self-control. What else is there?

I have gotten some from the "streets" which helps a little. But as you mentioned, inconsistent.

Good point about the increase in official dose, just tempting me to take more.

I will try an energy drink occassionally- especially when I have none at all to take. They're costly, but it'll be worth it when I have nothing.

Peace

Taking more one day, and then cutting back other days works in one sense, but in another it disrupts the good the medication is actually going to do you towards your condition. The binges can also lead to wanting more on a regular basis which in turn creates a serious addiction where your script will never last you as long as it needs to.

One of my best friends used to be Rx-ed adderall and eventually caved to its addictive nature. She's since recovered and is doing much better. (No longer on adderall at all) Just be careful, as tempting as it is to abuse your medicine and feel great on a short term basis, you'll feel much better overall if you just take it as prescribed.

I'm not trying to be preachy, but adderall addiction is just really scary and sad to me since I've seen its effects first hand.

I've learned the hard way over time to take my scripts as prescribed, it basically took a withdrawal induced seizure and a car wreck for me to take a good hard look at how I was using my meds. I still tend to run out a couple days early but since I can usually refill about 5 days early I've been alright lately.

When my anxiety is really high and I know that I'll be tempted to take more klonopin and ambien than I need I'll drop off half of my script at my parents house and have my mom keep it until the right amount of time passes. It's easier for me to manage in smaller quantities. I don't even get high off klonopin, it's just that at times my anxiety gets pretty bad and I take more klonopin than I need sometimes just to feel "normal".

I actually hadn't ran out early for a few months but last month I ran out a few days early so when I got my scripts I dropped them off at my parents house and only took a weeks worth with me.

With benzos it's really important not to run out, with adderall you'll feel really tired and depressed if you have to go without for a while but with benzos you're risking your life when you're dependent on them and don't take them. I'd happily withdraw from opiates and adderall over benzos any day, benzo withdrawal is what taught me to take my prescriptions as prescribed.

I've never had an adderall prescription but I've had easy access to them for years, I abused them at first but now it's only fun to binge on them once in a blue moon. I'll take a little extra adderall if I have a lot of work to do, but I don't have the urge to constantly up my doseage of adderall like I used to. If you have this urge and it hasn't played itself out yet be careful, adderall can cause serious problems when overdone, but if you're only running out a couple days early that doesn't sound too bad unless you're getting it from other sources in addition to your rx.
