Is soy protein a good source of protein for building muscle? I only eat about 20 grams a day (in a protein bar). I have heard that it is bad for you and your body doesn't digest it. Is this true? Thanks guys

To be honest, no. Just about all soy in this country is GMO. Latest studies have shown it to have horrible effects on animals. Plus soy raises estrogen levels. Stick with a natural whey protein.

That's why I said natural whey meaning organic in hopes that they are grass fed cows. Usually the protein will specify it. It will cost more though like most organic things.

There are no regulations with the term "natural". "Natural" does not equal "organic" in most cases, and even "organic" isn't what you think it's supposed to be. "Organic" is really just a marking ploy--After all, isn't everything we eat, GMO or not, "organic" in nature?

The term depends on where you live. If Im not mistaken for something to be labeled organic in the US has to be at least 70% organic. I wont eat anything GMO if I have knowledge of it. I live off food from local "organic" farms the majority of the time. The animals are fed grasses, grains, and vegetables that are all organic in nature too.

Getting off the subject here, when it comes to proteins, I would pick a natural organic whey over anything else if available.

What the hell are you smoking? For something to be labeled as organic it has to comply to a strict set of rules.

^Watch your language. There's no need for aggression. Of you provide evidence to backup your assertions people will be more inclined to enter a proper discourse with you. :)

Those rules have many loopholes and don't hold much water in my eyes. One example:

Nonorganically produced seeds and planting stock that have been treated with a substance included on the National List of synthetic substances allowed for use in organic crop production may be used to produce an organic crop when an equivalent organically produced or untreated variety is not commercially available Source.

If that URL doesn't work: Go here > click "Organic Standards" > "Organic Regulations" > "§205.204" > "(2)".

^ yup it's pretty disgusting, but in order for some things to be organic these days it is occasionally necessary due to certain crops being irrevocably contaminated with GMO seeds/pollen

if you have a problem with my moderation there are other avenues to address this

If I had to tell someone, for their benefit, what NOT to eat, it would be any product containing or completely made out of soy, in any amount. Next would be wheat, but thats alot harder to avoid and alot less damaging to your health.

Seriously anyone reading if you want to dramatically improve your health, look into the history of soy, why we use it, what it is, and why we shouldnt eat it, and you will find some pretty disturbing facts about how unhealthy and devoid of nutrition it is not to mention it's hormone inbalancing properties and the fact it destroys the planet in the way its farmed/manufactured.

Long story short though;

Soy is a crop that has been carefully selected. It was a big marketing scam. The guys at monsanto and other huge agri-business got together and came to the conclusion they needed a new grain, one
they could grow easier than the other ones, get more yield, make more money, and while they are at it - they will market it as a 'healthy' alternative to current crops, eventually dominating the market.

So, soy was chosen. They do not directly say 'soy is healthy, pick soy'. They market things like 'so good soy milk' and how good tofu is for you. Its all a lie. It was simply an 'invention' if you will. A huge
fantastic lie that took over a decade to convince the public without ever letting it become a massive issue - 'soy product is healthy, dont worry about it, move along nothing to see here'.

The real truth is its easy to farm, it has high yield, and it makes more money. It is not healthier or 'just as healthy' as alternatives, it is terrible for you.

this link here itself is not 'proof' however it will link you to a few studies/books, 'The Whole Soy Story: the dark side of America's favorite health food' is a good book about it all, its mentioned in the link.

Amazing post bro ^ finally nice to see people wise on Monsanto's domination posting.

I personally didn't know that, beyond the hormone impairing thing - which just means it should be used in moderation, and not from 1st generation GMO crops - you would have to back-cross a lot, organically in order to make it safer I reckon(the same applies to rapeseed).

Except you will find soy is a pulse, not a grain - it is a bean.

Ayurveda states for some people soy is good, others only fermented soy (tofu) is good.

Ayurveda is a disciplined science of empirical knowledge on tuning ourselves in with nature(rough Sanskrit translation = "the art of living well"), in order to be less susceptible to illness...It advocates soy, tofu, and wheat (wheat in it's raw unprocessed form is HIGHLY nutritious, but how's it relatively recently cultivated means that the gluten content has risen to a ridiculous rate) - as I said to someone else - EVERY substance on this earth is both poison and medicine - preperation, dosage and ROA are what defines which.

A bit off the subject here since we are talking about Monsanto. I watched a documentary called "What In The World Are They Spraying" that I found very interesting. Around the time that I had first watched this, Monsanto announced that it had created a seed that could grow in soil with a ridiculously high aluminum content where nothing else can grow. I hate this company more than words can express. If you enjoy a bit of conspiracy theory, watch this and post a response about it on here. Curious to see what others think.
