Soreness after Injection

For some reason both of my arms are really sore after IVing hydrocodone. I injected twice into my left arm and it is extremely sore, but no red-ness or bruising. I injected once into my right arm and its also very sore and there's a large area of redness on it. No bruising however. I'm very worried about this, I've heard many horror stories of people losing limbs from injecting. I'm wondering if I should seek medical attention however this would involve admitting to my parents that I'm using the needle, and for obvious reasons I'd rather not undergo that.

may i ask why you are injecting hydro? is it getting you high? I would say its a cross between the chemical and the 18gauge cause thats just huge, try to get a 28 or 29 gauge....

i suggest to NOT inject hydrocodone unless you have some liquid amp of sorts

Well, the first time I injected, I injected 2.5 mgs, then followed up with another 2.5 because the first shot didn't do much. Neither really did a whole lot, just an intense warmth throughout my body. The third time I tried to inject 5 mgs, tho I could only get half the dose in, because the plunger wouldn't go down any further.

So, basically it wasnt giving me much, and I'm obviously not fuckin with it further. Plugging hydro's is much better =D

2.5mg of hydrocodone? that is an extremely low dosage, even for I.V usage, and AFAIK, hydrocodone isn't very safe to I.V, oxy is both better and safer.

18 guage? That's not a needle, it's more like a sharpened drainpipe!

Seriously though, don't IV hydrocodone as it's on a par with dihydrocodeine for histamine release (not at all good - probably responsible for the soreness). If you want a fast onset, go with rectal administration

Yes, for harm reduction sake, and your limbs/heart, please don't inject hydrocodone unless it's in liquid amp form (shooting Vicodin w/ apap is just ridiculous).

Ok, this statement has me a little scared for your health. That's definitely not safe.

I remember 6 years ago when I didn't know much at all about drugs I snorted hald of an apap/hydro pill (then realizing something was wrong when there was all that powder, heh) but slamming one of those is even more ridiculous.

Yeah, unless for some reason you stumbled upon some ampuole of pure hydrocodone liquid, or synthetic powder, you shouldn't be shooting the pills, the fillers are bad enough, but the apap/acetaminophen is even worse. End of story. Be safe. If you're going to shoot, shoot dope, not hydrocodone.

yeah, im not doing them anymore. not shooting anyway. its not worth the risk for such a weak high.

but now im getting really worried because my left arm is getting very swollen at the injection site. should i get help? is it gonna kill me, or make me lose my arm?

nah, i think your just sore from the huge fuckin needle, how long ago did you shoot? cuz if you did it recently(few hours ago) i'ed assume there would be some swelling

This is the kind of stuff everyone who inject should know,
you didnt even do a CWE on the pills before preparing the hydrocodone?

If the swelling has gone worse tomorow and its hurting - then you maybe should
seek help at a doctor.

The cause of the swelling may be that you missed some of youre dose outside
youre vein or you punctured the vein.

^Ditto.Your body will eventually absorb whatever binders or shit you shot in there but you still risk the chance of staph or some other infection. If it becomes anymore red or swollen or definatly if you sqeeze some puss go to a dr. asap and tell him what you did.

Seriously though i'm not gonna bash you to bad cause it looks like you got enough of that already, but don't do it again. If something is made to be injected it will come in a suspension in a little vial that says for i.v or i.m. or subcutaneous injection.:\

Also if you ever do get the chance to inject something again, there is no excuse to use a fat boy pencil size needle. The 18 gauge needle is probaly why it so sore, cause dude you did'nt get injected, you got stabbed with a shank in the arm.Wal-Mart sales insulin needles 24/7 and farm animal supply stores sale 22 1/2 up to 28 gauge needles that are perfectly sterile.Just tell them you had some puppies that need shots.

Ok, I'll definatly seek some help if it gets much worse.

But yeah, I realize now it was a dumb thing to try, but I was just experimenting and I don't have very much experience when it comes to injecting drugs, thats for sure.

Dude, that is not a very good combination especially not when dealing with intravenous administration.. :\
But every man learn from their misstakes, do yourself a big favour and get
some smaller needles.

And do a search here at BL next time you decide to IV something new -
just so you get the right preparation!
Take care of youre body! :)

last time i shot in that arm was 4 days ago. the swelling only developed today.

Sounds more like an infection. After getting a puncture wound from one opf my cat's claws, it was a bit sore for a few days, then started to look like someone had slipped a golf ball under my skin (and it was bright red and very sore). After being admitted to hospital, they told me I was probably only hours away from developing systemic septicaemia (& possible death). I'm still having to get the dressing changed 3 times a week & most probably will have to up until Xmas. It's not something that will go away if you ignore it

The gist of what I'm saying is GO TO THE DOCTORS/HOSPITAL NOW. If it's an infection & you develop septicaemia, there's a reasonable chance you could die & a very good chance of bacterial endocarditis/mitral heart valve problems. You do not want to fuck around with the possibility of a systemic bacterial infection as the bacterium responsible for necrotizing fasciolitis - flesh eating bacteria - & MRSA (Staphlococcus aureus) is one of the usual suspects in such cases
