songs with guitar feedback. expected and unexpected.

guitar feedback is when the microphone or guitar pick ups create a vibration between the instrument and the guitar amplifier. it creates a large screeching noise. this is often unwanted, but also has been utilized to create some amazing sounds in music. this thread can be used to post any music feedback you like, but i'll start with two songs that are in styles which i might not really expect guitar feedback:



^^^^2:45 into the song. "rain on a scarecrow" by john mellancamp. this song is kind of intense. great use of feedback. just the little clip of sound is super intense.



^^^^^a few seconds into this song, the band just lets out some squealing feedback. the ivory coast was a local band from my area that i hope some how gets remembered through the internet.



i'll definitely post in this thread again as time goes on when i come across some good pop songs with unexpected guitar feedback. maybe someone knows some. there aren't really a ton. feedback really isn't even utilized as much as i think it would be in harder types of rock music. it's hard to master the art of feedback. to me it's like a comes by chance spiritual thing. sometimes amplifiers even do things that don't really make sense. one time i got intense guitar feedback that came while i was strumming the guitar (which doesn't really happen) and my amp wasn't broken. i have no idea what happened. i guess it's not really the point of this thread, but i believe feedback (and music too lol) is from the gods.


if people do choose to post in this thread, i'm guessing it's going to be a lot of stuff like the end of this live smashing pumpkins:



^^^^^nirvana does a lot of feedback like that too... idk. i know some other good songs where feedback is utilized in pop songs, but post any just live going nuts feedback or unintentional feedback you may remember in this thread.




p.s. if anybody likes john mellancamp, that use of feedback is one of the most intense things in music history... idk. i just feel like that song is some real serious shit, and people that aren't really into mellancamp and more rockers would like that song... idk

50 seconds into this video is me utilizing some feedback with the strings vibrations instead of just the pick up and guitar amplifier creating vibrations together... there is even less use of this type of feedback in music than there is with the more squealing sound that is when the pickups alone come together to make sound with the speaker. not sure the exact science, but i'm using the strings and pushing and pulling the guitar away from the amplifier. it's super cool. there is also a very high pitch sound that is just the pickups hitting the amp..




anyways, not trying to do promotion 100%. literally wanted to post about that john mellancamp song, but also i feel like my feedback is relevant too... there have been musicians around the underground in my dreams that have done similar stuff, but they usually get cancelled to let other people feel like they are doing something new. idk. i think i'm one of the best noise musicians to utilize feedback, but i'm pretty sure there are a ton of other great noise musicians that knew how to use feedback and did the same shit.... i'm gonna keep doing this music with psychedelic mind. it's awesome.... would love it if you checked out 50 seconds into this clip and thought about the john mellancamp part in "rain on a scarecrow". there is an AM radio making noise too in my recording..

aww.... i waited a while to post this hopiing someone else would recall this one. know some ya'll really get this. one of those main stream songs where unless your really bored and have a lot of time, you don't have to get that into the genre of emo music cause you'd get the feeling through this song. some people don't need to delve into the underground. main stream can be just as inspirational:




3.33 crazy feed back... there are a couple pop radio hits with guitar feedback that i'll find if they exist and top this thread with them.. the ending of "mr. jones" by the counting heads fades out in the same way i enjoy feedback at the end of the song, but it's not actually feedback. i think it's an organ that actually ends on a darker ambient note that gets juxtaposed with the song... you really like the feedback in "jumper" by third eye blind, you must've heard the end of the counting crows song at some point.


that john mellancamp song that starts the thread is pretty much ultimate feedback... i was hoping this thread would get topped with some of the posters from the metal thread, not only because i want to top my you tube that's in the post if BL staff will let me, but because i'm in love with that john mellancamp feedback. nothing like it really.


in the spirit of mentioning metal, here is the band floor off a split record with the popular underground 90's band spazz... this has a lot of great feedback. love the minimalist hardcore/metal sound. around 2.30 is pretty cool... idk, this feedback isn't really that amazing, but it is really perfect sound to me:





here's a song with a great deal of feedback by the band lightning bolt. this is another favorite of mine from the hardcore punk and metal scene with feedback. there is another song called "wee one's parade" around that point on this release where the vocalist/drummer really sounds insane to me:






i listen to some of the stuff in the BL metal thread sometimes. i went through a ton of it when i first got to BL, but mostly recognize the flow now. i'm not really upset no one other than poster Shambles contributed to this thread... i would've thought it was cool and was mostly hoping someone would've posted "jumper" by third eye blind though.

speaking of metal again, i know some "stinkfist" and "sober" by tool has some intense feedback. it's perfect shit, but the most intense pinacle of tool has got to be noted to be 3.58 into sober. crazy bizarre pitch that hits me the same level as the feedback in that john melancamp song.

Whole album is just amazing & their Bass player helped Hijack a Plane & flew it to North Korea.
People call them "The Japanese Velvet Underground" & also "The Japanese Sunn O)))" but this was recorded way back in 1973-1977 & only released in 2002 but it's just crushing with the feedback in a way NO OTHER BAND CAN DO!!!!!!
