I read somewhere that this song was about "shooting up" or IV drug use. the part where they say "Sail on Silver Girl, sail on by, you're time has come to shine...." is about the needle. I don't know how true this is but when you listen to the rest of the lyrics its quite obbbbbbbbvious.8)

Comfortably numb is not about drugs, if you follow the rest of the album you can see it is a metaphor for pink finally turning emotionless and putting up a "wall" after all the abuse he's taken. It's the same numb feeling sociopaths and serial killers get.

they claimed that it wasnt about lsd, but after hearing the lyrics, its pretty hard to believe that it wasnt. maybe they didnt realize the initials, but just read the lyrics.
