Songs about drugs that no one knows are about drugs.

^^^^^^
It is undoutedly about acid. That is probably the most beautiful way I've ever read someone talk about acid. Wonderful.

The Shamen - Ebeneezer Goode (classic UK dance tune, came out in 1992) is definitely about ecstacy, but most of the public didn't know at the time and it was at number 1 for about 4 weeks.

There's a guy in the place
He's got a bittersweet face
And he goes by the name of Ebeneezer Goode
His friends call him Eezer and he is the main geezer
And he'll vibe about the place like no other man could
He's refined, he's sublime, he makes you feel fine
Though very much maligned and misunderstood
But if you know Eezer he's a real crowd pleaser
He's ever so good, he's Ebeneezer Goode
You can see that he's mischievious, mysterious and devious
When he circulates amongst the people in the place
But once you know he's fun and something of a genius
He gives a grin that goes around from face to face to face
Backwards and then forwards, forwards and then backwards
Eezer is the geezer who loves to muscle in
That's about the time the crowd all shout the name of Eezer
As he's kotcheled in the corner, laughing by the bass bin

Eezer Goode, Eezer Goode
He's Ebeneezer Goode
Eezer Goode, Eezer Goode
He's Ebeneezer Goode
Eezer Goode, Eezer Goode
He's Ebeneezer Goode
Eezer Goode, Eezer Goode
He's Ebeneezer Goode
He's Ebeneezer Goode

Has anybody got any veras
Lovely
Ha ha ha ha ha
Ha ha ha ha ha

A great philosopher once wrote
Naughty, naughty, very naughty
Ha ha ha ha ha

Ebeneezer Goode, leading light of the scene
Know what I mean, see
He created the vibe
He takes you for a ride and as if by design
The party ignites like he's comin alive
He takes you to the top, shakes you all around
Then back down, you know as he gets mellow
Then as smooth as the groove that is making you move
He glides into your mind with a sunny Hello
A gentleman of leisure, he's there for your pleasure
But go easy on old Eezer he's the love you could lose
Extraordinary fellow, like Mr. Punchinello
He's the kind of geezer who must never be abused
When you're in town and Ebeneezer is around
You can sense a presence in the sound of the crowd
He gets them all at it, the party starts rocking
The people get excited it's time to shout loud
...

I don't know about actual lyrical content, but Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust" is cool to listen to backwards. It very clearly says "it's fun to smoke marijuana".

i've heard that song backwards before and that is some weird shit how "another one bites the dust" backwards says ''it's fun to smoke marijuana"

Beyond a certain level of astonishment that virtually everybody thinks Pink was talking about a party on the second floor when she sings "I'm coming up/so you'd better get this party started"....

"Bowl of Oranges" by Bright Eyes seems suspect:

The rain, it started tapping on the window near my bed
There was a loophole in my dreaming, so I got out of it
And to my surprise my eyes were wide and already open
[...]
So I dressed myself and left then, out into the gray streets
But everything seemed different and completely new to me
The sky, the trees, houses, buildings, even my own body
And each person I encountered, I couldn't wait to meet

It's blatent, but I'm a fan of "Kid Charlemagne" by Steely Dan:

While the music played you worked by candlelight
Those San Francisco nights
You were the best in town
[...]
On the hill the stuff was laced with kerosene
But yours was kitchen clean

[...]
Now your patrons have all left you in the red
Your low rent friends are dead
This life can be very strange

[...]
Clean this mess up else we'll all end up in jail
Those test tubes and the scale
Just get them all out of here

(About cocaine I assume.)

I have a suspicion that two of Coldplay's new songs are about a psychadelic:

"Speed Of Sound" Lyrics-

How long before I get in?
Before it starts, before I begin?
How long before you decide?
Before I know what it feels like?
Where To, where do I go?
If you never try, then you'll never know.
How long do I have to climb,
Up on the side of this mountain of mine?
(first stanza)

"Square One" Lyrics-

You're in control, is there anywhere you wanna go?
You're in control, is there anything you wanna know?
The future's for discovering
The space in which we're travelling
From the top of the first page
To the end of the last day
From the start in your own way
You just want somebody listening to what you say
It doesn't matter who you are
It doesn't matter who you are

Under the surface trying to break through
Deciphering the codes in you
I need a compass, draw me a map
I'm on the top, I can't get back

Whoa whoa

The first line on the first page
To the end of the last page
From the start in your own way
You just want somebody listening to what you say
It doesn't matter who you are
It doesn't matter who you are

You just want
Somebody listening to what you say
Oh, you just want somebody listening to what you say
It doesn't matter who you are
It doesn't matter who you are

Is there anybody out there who
Is lost and hurt and lonely too
Are they bleeding all your colours into one?
and if you come undone
As if you've been run through
Some catapult it fired you
You wonder if your chance will ever come
Or if you're stuck in square one

it is NOT obvious that PF's comfortably numb is about heroine, IF you havent had heroine in your life. i never tried heroine, and i cannot imagine my hands feeling like two balloons. and pin pricks? never experienced that either. but if what Pink is feeling on that couch is what heroine feels like, i guess it is about heroine then...

^ I've actually heard that it's a huge rumor and widely accepted that comfortably numb is about Heroin when in fact it is about LSD. I went looking for ahwile to see where I could find this but some bluelighter said it with a pretty extensive reasoning behind it. Any huge floyd fans with history and knowledge about the band can confirm this?

is godsmacks "voodoo" about heroin? it realllly makes me wanna shoot up. the lyrics are:

[#] [A] [C] [D] [E] [F] [G] [H] [J] [K] [L] [M] [N] [O] [P] [Q] [R] [T] [V] [W] [X] [Y] [Z]

Godsmack VooDoo lyrics

Candles raise my desire
Why I'm so far away
No more meaning to my life
No more reason to stay
Freezing feeling, Breathe in--Breathe in
I'm coming back again
I'm not the one who's so far away
When I feel the snake bite enter my veins
Never did I wanna be here again
And I don't remember why I came
Hazing clouds rain on my head
Empty thoughts fill my ears
Find my shade by the moon light
Why my thoughts aren't so clear
Demons dreaming
Breathe in--Breathe in
I'm coming back again
VooDoo, I'm not the one
who's so far away

Damn I just downloaded semi-charged kind of life and after listening to the lyrics its real obvious. I remember being 12-13 and really liking the song having no clue it was about speed.

The Wall was loosely based on the downfall of Syd Barrett, their original front man. And it stands to reason that it was talking about LSD (Being his drug of choice and arguably what eventually led to his insanity).

"Ok (ok)
It's just a little pin-prick
There'll be no more Ahhhhhh!
But you may feel a little sick
Can you stand up, no?
I do believe It's working good

That'll keep you going through the show"

It could very well be thorazine to end/take the edge off a trip.

taken from an interview w/ Roger Waters in 1979...

TV: So physiologically what stage of the character Pink for the track "Comfortably Numb"?

RW: After "Bring the Boys Back Home" there is a short piece where a tape loop is used; the teachers voice is heard again and you can feel the groupie saying "are you feeling ok" and there's the operator saying, er, "there's a man answering" and there's a new voice introduced at that point and there's somebody knocking on the door saying "come on it's time to go," right, so the idea is that they are coming to take him to the show because he's got to go and perform that night, and they come into the room and they realize something is wrong, and they actually physically bring the doctor in, and "Comfortably Numb" is about his confrontation with the doctor.

TV: So the doctor puts him in such a physiological state that he can actually hit the stage?

RW: Yes, he gives him an injection, in fact it's very specific that song.

TV: "Just a little pinprick"?

RW: Yeah.

TV: "There'll be no more aaaaaaaaaaah!"

RW: Right.

[COMFORTABLY NUMB]

RW:Because they're not interested in any of these problems, all they're interested in is how many people there are and tickets have been sold and the show must go on, at any cost, to anybody. I mean I, personally, have done gigs when I've been very depressed, but I've also done gigs when I've been *extremely* ill, where you wouldn't do any ordinary kind of work.

TV: Because the venue is there and because the act's there...

RW: And they've paid the money and if you cancel a show at short notice, it's expensive.

--------

the whole article is very good, and he (RW) talks about what every song is about on The Wall. it also has interviews w/ him up until 1999, and as early as 1967.

Regarding comfortably numb. Any good artist has a message to their work but they never reveal what it was to them. This allows every listener of music, viewer of art, reader of literature and so on to find their own meaning in it.

Tool - Stinkfist

"Something has to change.
Undeniable dilemma.
Boredom's not a burden anyone should bear.
Constant over stimulation numbs me
But I would not want you any other way.
Just not enough.
I need more.
Nothing seems to satisfy.
I said, I don't want it.
I just need it.
To breathe, to feel, to know I'm alive.

Finger deep within the borderline.
Show me that you love me and that we belong together.
Relax, turn around and take my.

I can help you change tired moments into pleasure.
Say the word and we'll be well upon our waaay.
Blend and balance pain and comfort deep within you
till you will not want me any other way.
But it's not enough.
I need more.
Nothing seems to satisfy.
I said, I don't want it.
I just need it.
To breathe, to feel, to know I'm alive.

Knuckle deep inside the borderline.
This may hurt a little but it's something you'll get used to.
Relax. Slip awaaaaaaaay.

Chupa minha pica pichu
Chupa minha pica pinto

Something kinda sad about,
the way that things have come to be.
Desensitized to everything.
What became of subtlety?

How can it mean anything to me,
if I really don't feel a thing at all?

I'll, keep, digging
till I, feel, something.

Elbow deep inside the borderline.
Show me that you love me and that we belong together.
Shoulder deep within the borderline.
Relax, turn around and take my hand."

Elton John - Rocket Man ( I Think It's Going To Be A Long Long Time)

"She packed my bags last night pre-flight
Zero hour nine a.m.
And I'm gonna be high as a kite by then
I miss the earth so much I miss my wife
It's lonely out in space
On such a timeless flight

And I think it's gonna be a long long time
Till touch down brings me round again to find
I'm not the man they think I am at home
Oh no no no I'm a rocket man
Rocket man burning out his fuse up here alone

Mars ain't the kind of place to raise your kids
In fact it's cold as hell
And there's no one there to raise them if you did
And all this science I don't understand
It's just my job five days a week
A rocket man, a rocket man

And I think it's gonna be a long long time..."
