Songs about drugs that no one knows are about drugs.

HOTEL CALIFORNIA by the eagles is most definitely about cocaine.

Huh? Cocaine? I don't think there's a single line in the song that makes me think "coke" - could you write out the ones that make you think it is?

Actually, I'm pretty sure it's about herion addiction.

Yes, that does make a lot more sense.

how can anyone not know semi charmed life is about meth?

helloooooooooooo
"chop another line like a coda with a curse"
they even say
"doing crystal meth will lift you up until you break"
and
"i took the hit that i was given and i bumped again"

Once again our local genius gets the whole thread wrong - this is supposed to be about songs that are SECRETLY about drugs. A song with a line mentioning crystal meth is OBVIOUSLY about drugs. There's a difference ...

And yes, everyone (who knows) that song knows it's about meth, but that's not the point of this thread.

I dont know anybody who's mentioned or noticed this, but Depeche Modes Enjoy the Silence is SOOOOOOOOOO about his reckless love affair with teh smack.
Ive always loved this song....have any of you seen the music video? Fuck its beautiful..filmed entirely on a snow capped mountain, with David dolled up in a Kings frock, complete with crown ..and he just walks and walks endlessly in the snow towards thrones that just pop up from nowhere.
Stunning.

Words like violence
Break the silence
Come crashing in
Into my little world
Painful to me
Pierce right through me
Can’t you understand
Oh my little girl

All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm

Vows are spoken
To be broken
Feelings are intense
Words are trivial
Pleasures remain
So does the pain
Words are meaningless
And forgettable

All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm

Enjoy the silence

Mine was in response to the thread starter, "local genius." 8)

Also I'd like to add:

Horse with no Name by America
This song is a total ODE to heroin. The chorus : "In the desert you can remember your name. 'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain." Everything in this song is a metaphor attempting to describe the going on, and coming down off of, a smack binge. Horse is also slang for H, as if y'all didnt know.

Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water"
I read somewhere that this song was about "shooting up" or IV drug use. the part where they say "Sail on Silver Girl, sail on by, you're time has come to shine...." is about the needle. I don't know how true this is but when you listen to the rest of the lyrics its quite obbbbbbbbvious.8)

Peter Paul and Marys Puff the Magic Dragon
Nuff said. Any wonder ive always loved this song even when i was a tot!:p

yes, comfortably numb is definetly about heroin- heres the lyrics--^^^suicide? huh??no, heroinPink Floyd
Comfortably Numb

Hello?
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone home?
Come on, now.
I hear you're feeling down.
Well I can ease your pain,
Get you on your feet again.
Relax.
I need some information first.
Just the basic facts,
Can you show me where it hurts?
There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're sayin'.
When I was a child I had a fever.
My hands felt just like two balloons.
Now I got that feeling once again.
I can't explain, you would not understand.
This is not how I am.
I have become comfortably numb.
Ok.
Just a little pinprick.
There'll be no more ...Aaaaaahhhhh!
But you may feel a little sick.
Can you stand up?
I do believe it's working. Good.
That'll keep you going for the show.
Come on it's time to go.
There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're sayin'.
When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse,
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone.
I cannot put my finger on it now.
The child is grown, the dream is gone.
I have become comfortably numb.

Oh, there is also Space Oddity from David Bowie. It is a song about a guy, called Major Tom who was a junkie. Poor fella got lost in space.
(take your protein pills and put your helmets on!!!)

There is a song by 'A Perfect Circle' that is about Coke, but i don't remember the name... Most people don't know about it.

How can we argue that "Comftorably Numb" may or may not be about heroin.... IT IS. It's even listed on heroin.org as being a song about heroin.

"DrUgMeSaNe: So you think heroin is the only analgesic"

You are all obviously forgetting that this song was written a few decades ago (60s or 70s... I forget). Well, I doubt that they had many other drugs similar to heroin for recreational use and for the specific purpose of IVing. It's either Heroin or Morphine and I think one could reasonably say that Heroin would make more sense.

"It can be anything, meperidine, fentanyl, ketobemidone, pentazocine, morphine, DHC, levorphan."

Again, remember what time period that the song was in. Even if any of these were around at the time the song was written, heroin would still be the obvious choice.

meperidine was around I think , not sure though , but the guy is just nitpicking , let's just say it's a song about iv opiates , I mean a junky will most often be shooting heroin most of the time but also any other opiate he can get his hands on.

candy man ---- garcia-hunter

"Look out, look out the Candyman,
Here he comes and he's gone again.
Pretty lady ain't got no friend till,
The Candyman comes around again, around again."

come to think about it didn't sammy davis jr do a candy manfor willy wonka?

victim or the crime written by bob weir

"Patience runs out on the junkie
The dark side hires another soul
Did he steal his fate or earn it
Was he force-fed, did he learn it
Whatever happened to his precious self control"

i could of sworn i heard somewhere that Hotel California was about hell. And has nothing to do with drugs. Another song is brain stew by green day, but i think that song is pretty obvious.

me and my friends (being 22 now) never knew semi-charmed kind of life was about meth. heres why:

they edit out "crystal meth" in the "cuz doin crystal meth will lift you up until you break" (as well as an entire fucking verse)

the lines "chop another line like a coda with a curse" and "i took the hit that I was given and bumped again" are hard to understand

if you're not used to hearing the phrases "chop a line" or "take a bump" it will only register as catchy lyrics you can sing along too, but never actually digested

this is my opinion on why i grew up singing songs about drugs without a clue

thats weird, i remember that song being a hit when i was 13 years old and dont recall any parts being censored....haahhahah i remember the only censoring they did in their lyrics was changing "Crystal meth" to "crystal myth" hahahhahhahahaha lmfao

Ever since I've tried ecstasy, it's the only thing I can think about when I hear the lyrics to "Melt With You" by Modern English, which came out just as this drug was starting to come into vogue.

"Trapped in a state of imaginary grace..."
