Son’s drug overdose death a wake-up call, parents say

it's not exactly a good place to leave a person either.

could you really use a strong stim to bring someone out of an opiate OD? like just keep them smoking meth all night? kind of fucked up but as long as the opiate got out of his system before the stimulant, he'd probably not die.

wtf is with arresting everyone else involved, they didn't shove the pills down his throat, that's why people dont' call 911. Maybe next time people will just throw someone in a cold bath and when they are dead they'll just chop them up into pieces and drain their blood. fucking prohibition.

it's pretty hard to OD on opiates alone too, usually you'll puke way too much before you hit that high of a dose if you are opiate naive. Almost all opiate ODs are due to combos with CNS depressants.

and yeah hydromorphone packs a hell of a punch, even nasally if you are new to it. I don't IV but i've plugged hydromorphone plenty of times and definitely got a rush off it.
I think the others were arrested (owner of the pills) because the fact he had so many pointed to distribution/trafficking. He also had quite a few MJ plants. You know how it is too, they can/will sometimes charge whoever supplied the drugs when its clear who did if the person dies...just like a few bartenders have been charged after alcohol related death.

He probably started doing some pills when he met this guy at his new job or had a little experience. But not much....or who knows, who am I to speculate. I guess my point was he probably was fairly opiate naive and if they chopped a bunch of them and snorted who knows how much he got first time out. They did say he was vomiting but evidently it was enough to knock him out too. From there he either aspirated on his vomit after they left him alone or the drive to breathe was gone. Either way, I could see how he could die from it alone. But it is also very likely he had alcohol and others in his system too since he was at a party.

Been a long time since I have been in school and been exposed to "drug education". So in you guys opinion, do they avoid talking about and giving pertinent info on things because they are afraid if they tell too much it will make kids more likely to be interested in trying it? I mean, how does it usually go now? What could they do differently to improve education? Just really curious and interested. Seems strange that they wouldn't be totally oppen and straight forward seeing h ow kids today could learn anything and everything on the net

Um, hydromorphone has an amazing rush, when IV'd. Bit shite any other way, though.

You got that right! HM is my favorite opiate, but orally it is shit. If you don't slam your opies, HM can be tricky to dose for snorting. If you manage to extract the pure HM from HydromorphContin pills or Dilaudids and snort it in a clean nose, the instantaneous rush can be absolutely overwhelming for the opiate-naive. I like it better than dope and oxy cos HM doesn't cause a big histamine release in me compared to smack and oxy. It's a clearer, yet as potent buzz. The only thing I don't like about HM is it's VERY short duration... I blacked out many times on a HM-xanax super-fun combo, but never for a long time, thanks to the ridiculously short half-life of HM. It makes me laugh when peeps say they tried HM and felt almost nothing... If your nose's mucous tissues are ''tired'' from over-snorting, or if it ain't perfectly clean, or if you directly snort crushed pills with binders and fillers, chances are you won't feel it nearly as much as you should. Snorting pure HM in a clean nose is very close to banging it imo...

The kid made a mistake cos he was ignorant and people around him were understandably scared to call for help in the ignorant, punitive, self-righteous and basically immoral country that is America.

The culprit is not the HM, the kid who ODed or the persons who gave him the HM... Ultimately, the real culprit is the ignorance of the average American voter regarding ''drugs'' maintained by stupidly counter-productive prohibitionist laws.. Sorry again for stating the obvious to enlightened BLers.

Does anyone really believe that this was his first time with opioids?

I mean, who jumps in with hydromorphone? Everyone starts with hydrocodone! Well, almost everyone. Vicodin, maybe oxycodone, if you're lucky. You know how long it took me to even find someone who had dilaudid? Very few. I was sitting in the pharmacy the other day and there was the older lady who wanted to get her dilaudid filled, but they were out, so they were calling another pharmacy across town, they said that they refused to dispense hydromorphone to anyone who hadn't been a customer there long-term. The lady starting freaking out, saying how she had cancer and who the fuck were they to stand in the way blocking a doctor's prescribed treatment. That one was very interesting!

Hamillton, never underestimate other people's stupidity. If their friends are doing a drug and say it is okay, some people will do it.

I don't know if it was his first time with opiates/opioids but I agree with the above. Everyone starts somewhere. I only smoked pot for years when I was a teen and never tried anything else for a long time.

If he hadn't tried opiates before and he had been just hanging out with this guy from this new job a month they had probably hooked up and hung out to smoke some weed (since the guy grew it). He may have very well been at the party with him and said hey try this its great. Some people don't know much about pharms if they don't use them.

But who knows

I got to college and had only tried acid once before then(failed trip). When it was offered to me my freshman year by a buddy in another frat, I bought 20 hits. No sense in going back or doing the shit alone... Red windowpane - harsh, but good visuals.

This is a sad story all the way around. The kids for being dumb asses (but hey that's what kids do) the parents for not wanting to lay any of the blame on their special little snow flake and the media for gobbling it up and advertising it as a "cautionary tale"

I don't believe hydrocodone is prescribed/available in Canada, but I get what you're saying. I'm willing to bet he started off with either Tylenol with Codeine or Percocet. He was probably offered a Perc one evening while hanging out with "friends" and - this may sound funny to long time users - as little as 5mg of Oxycodone can give someone who's opiate naive a really great high. I know it did for me the very first time I used.
