Sometimes, it is okay to narc

He was responding to your off topic post CR, come on, just let it go. :)

Someone else brought up a good point in this thread, I cant remember who. What if you are a minor drug dealer and get arrested. The police would obviously lean on you to get at YOUR supplier, offer you a better deal and whatnot. What then? Save yourself major jail time but end up narcing on your dealer?

But this is what happens anyway, regardless.

The fact is that if people are going to want to narc, they will. Dealers might narc out other dealers, dealers might narc out their suppliers, buyers might narc out their dealers, and others might narc for no reason at all.

I am not encouraging newbies who don't know about the system to narc simply because they feel upset over a deal. I certainly am also not encouraging somebody to throw another person in jail simply because they were shorted a few bucks and feel upset.

My bottom line was that maybe it's time to persuade others to start throwing the RIGHT people in jail, to better drug culture.

I haven't read the whole thread so sorry if this has been covered already.

This is what I see happening if people ratting becomes commonplace:

- There will be far more people being sent to jail. Result? his will dramatically reinfrorce the negative public opinion of drugs as there will be drug busts in the media constantly. This will further reduce the likelihood of decriminilisation or legalisation of drugs.

- Dealers will become increasingly paranoid about being ratted out and will start being violent toward anyone they even remotely suspect of being a rat. The result? Again, more drug related crime and a increase of negative perceptions of drugs.

- If more dealers are ratted out and arrested, the authorities will have more evidence that they are winning the war on drugs and will likely increase the resources allocated to the war. The result? More cops and agents arresting users and dealers.

- As the practice becomes increasingly risky for dealers, they will view dealing as being more risk than it is worth. The result? A massive reduction in the amount of dealers, whether shady or honest, and therefore far less access to drugs.

- If ratting becomes acceptable then people will start ratting because they don't like a dealer, because they want to eliminate the competition or because in their objective opinion they believe the dealer fucked them over. One person's shitty weed might be another person's chronic. A heroin addict may think the dope they buy is bunk while a first timer might get high as a kite. One person may get a discount because they are a regular customer and tell another less regular customer that they were charged less which might severely piss them off. See what I mean? There is no hard and fast rule as to what is a 'shady' act by a dealer. One person's shady might be another person's honest. It's not like there are laws covering drug transactions!

Sorry, but I think your logic is inherently flawed. I can't see how ratting out shady dealers will have any overall benefit to the end user.
