Misc Something Stuck in syringe

First off, i wanna say, sorry if this is in the wrong sub-forum, i didn't really kno where else to ask about something that happened when IV'ing opiates, except in the place where we all talk about IV'ing opiates, so if this is the wrong place, please just move it to the appropriate place and let me kno where i should post this sort of thing next time please. thanks

I was IV'ing some Morphine a couple hours ago, and it got into the vein, sucked some blood up as usual, but something else came up wtih the blood, it was like a small chunk of something, like the size of a piece of dirt that was covered in blood, my first thought was i sucked up like a clot or something, but that didn't make sense to me, and when i went to flick the needle to get all the bubbles out, it just floated up to the top near the plunger, so i figured, i didn't want to waste my last shot of morphine i had for the night, so i figured i would just inject it still and just stop the plunger before it got to whatever it is that got sucked up. Well it worked, until i got about halfway down, that chunk of something suddenly went to the bottom, but was too big to go back out, thankfully, but it clogged the needle, so i pulled the syringe back out, and tried to push on the plunger to see if i could get it out, but nothing, it just wouldn't friggin go anywhere. so then figuring it was a lost cause and the morphine was wasted, i took the plunger completely out, and turned the barrel upside down to empty the contents out, but even that wont come out, its like its vaccum sucked to the bottom of the syringe. i stuck a toothpick down in there to see if maybe the liquid had turned to gel cause i cooked wrong, but no it was still liquid, when i poked it, some feel out, but the rest is still stuck in there, as this pic will show, which i kno its not a great pic (my Droid X got jacked so i am stuck with this old flip phone for now) i'm just posting it to show you how its all still stuck in there

so any ideas what it was i sucked up, and why this stuff, even tho its still a thin liquid, is stuck in there, and how the hell i can get it out lol

I have no idea what that is, but I think after getting a particle of *something* in there, and poking around with a toothpick, you're going to have to abandon that syringe+contents now.. it's not going to be very sterile, and now has blood in it it will probably start to clot..

well yea, once i opened the barrel, i wasn't planning on trying to salvage it, but i still just wanted to try and figure out what the hell happened. cause it was like a chunk of blood that came out of my vein that clogged it or something, whatever it was, it was in my vein. and i am glad its out lol

Depending on what form of morphine you were IVing this may well be precipitated wax or soemthing. The photo is blurry as all hell.

this happens from time to time. I always thought it was blood coagulating in the barrel

yep that is what I assumed, never had a problem unless I couldn't push through it easily. I will draw uo more and push down and it goes through usually. Other times, for prevention, whenever blood enters the syringe and you have a miss pull out and tap the blood to the bottom immediately and push through to verify there is no clog.

Did you get the vein and register on the first try? If not it might be coagulated blood that was stuck in the tip or something... You would think it would have clogged on it's way into the syringe not allowing it in in the first place. Weird.
