During my recent Amanita Muscaria trip I discovered something I found kinda cool. With most dissosiatives such as DXM and Amanitas after the peak Im left with nearly 4 hours or more of TERRIBLE vision. Even more so with the Amanitas. I'm relatively clear heading and not tripping, just feeling really sedated and a little drunk but my eye site is SO blurry. It truly drives me crazy not being able to read anything unless it is 1 inch from my face.

I was just over the peak of my awesome trip and trying to play some halo 4 with my sober roomate. We were on a 70 inch hd tv and I couldn't see anything. Was very frustrating. If the enemy was standing still I would walk right past them and running off cliffs was very common. My roomate has high strength prescription glasses. Just as a joke I tried them on. Oh My God it cleared up my vision PERFECTLY. I felt like a blind person seeing for the first time. At the time I was still seeing double but they were crystal clear. After I started to come down my vision in them became perfect no doubles, but still terrible with them off. About an hour before my vision became decent they were useless because it was blurry with them on or off. He gave me a spare pair of glasses he had to use just for the end of trips. If anyone is suffering from this problem I encourage you to try this.

Sorry if this is common knowledge and I do not know the strength of the glasses. Just found it funny how that stupid of an idea worked.

I wonder why exactly that happens, physiologically. Does anyone know?

I would assume that it has something to do with the mechanism of LSD. There was an article I read about psychedelics and how visuals work while tripping (all hypothetical, as it is something that hasn't been looked into well) and it went something like this:

The brain processes information sent by the eyes to create a representation of reality. What this means is that your sense of reality is limited by the information your eyes are able to send to the brain. The brain needs to process this information to create the miniature reality in your head... It is at this time that psychedelics and whatnot can influence what you see.

Okay well due to the DXM, your brain probably lost control of your cilliary bodies (the thing that focuses your lens).

The glasses cleared it up. After some time, you would have retained some control of the cilliary bodies, but not enough to completely clear up your vision. You could keep a series of glasses with varying power for this purpose (e.g. on both eyes: -0.5, -1.0, -1.5, -2.0, -2.5, -3.0) but it would get expensive.

At Rollies-Thanks alot for that, really interesting. The one pair of glasses work nearly up until the end, possibly some cheap non prescription glasses could clear up the rest. My buddy that uses the glasses are going to try the amanitas. Well see what effects it has on his already messed up eyes =)
