This is not very well written, and I may get a bunch of flack for it but I believe it could very well inform someone and save them from making a huge mistake with dosing methadone and other opiates/opioids, and also help inform opiate/opioid newbies about combinations particularly mixing opiates/oids and Benzo's. (Valium, Ativan, Klonopin etc)
Methadone is a great drug and has helped many people get off street smack and other opiates/opioids and it has also been a godsend for people in chronic pain due to various ailments. I'm not bashing Methadone at all, I just want people who don't know to realize just how powerful it is and what damage can be done if you make a couple common mistakes with it.
In my opinion Methadone is the strongest narcotic I've ever consumed. I've tried them all and it has the strongest, longest, most euphoric buzz. Oxycodone, Morphine, Hydromorphone (orally or IV in large amounts)do not give me the same amount of pain relief or euphoria that Methadone does.
When I read about Methadone on the internet when I was first prescribed it, I read that it gave very little or even no euphoria to the user and it was not something chronic narcotic users were able to get "high" on. I found this to be total B.S. at least when it comes to my use of it.
It's very dangerous stuff to people who do not take things like oxycodone, morphine, heroin, fentanyl, every day in pretty high dosages.
A dose of 5-10mg in an opiate naive person can cause them to be ill for 1-3 days.
I know a person who was opiate naive and consumed 100mg of Methadone because the prescription said take 100mg. Well, obviously it wasn't his prescription and the person who he got it from wasn't smart enough to warn him that he was likely to die from it.
He got very ill and almost died, he turned blue for 2 days straight and was vomiting nonstop. His friend was afraid to call an ambulance because the friend gave it to him!
Very stupid! The teen almost died. He could not walk and walk nodded out for 2 days straight. and greyish colored and sick for more than a weak.
Do not mess with Methadone, it has to be respected.
It can take 2 hours to kick in, and people often take more 30-60 minutes after taking the first dose thinking it wasn't enough, then it all hits them at once, overdosing them. Always remember it takes a long time to kick in, so you don't re dose and kill yourself.
Another fact is, it stays in your system for at least 24 hours, in opiate naive people it lasts much longer. I know people who are opiate naive and take a proper, more safe amount and they can be buzzing for 2 days and still feel remnants of the buzz 3 days after.
So the long action of it is a big killer, if you shoot up on heroin and do a borderline overdose. Lets say you are nodding but not gonna die. The nod won't last long, so you have some hope of survival. You'll nod maybe 1-6 hours depending on your tolerance or level of dependency, people with less tolerance will nod longer generally.
Things like fentanyl can kill you very easily but they will make you nod for a very short amount of time. 1-3 hours.
If you overdo it on either you are dead yes, but if you almost overdose on Methadone you will feel terrible like ur dying and then nod for 24 hours.
The point is, be extremely careful with every opioid/opiate but especially the strong ones like Heroin and Fentanyl, Methadone, Oxycodone, Morphine etc.
Once you start nodding, that's your body beginning to shut down. Your breathing slows, and if you are unlucky and take too much, the receptors in your brain and body may be too saturated with narcotics for you to continue to breathe and live.
You think you are in control, but it can happen to any one of you or myself.
Mix opiates/opioids with Benzo's and your chances of dying are much higher. Benzo's just add to the depression of your respiratory system. Combine alcohol with these and you are walking on a thin line between life and death.
Be damn careful. Most opiate/opioid related deaths occur when someone is using a Benzo with their Heroin, Morphine, Methadone etc. Barbiturates are even more dangerous to use in combination with opiates/opioids.
So always remember to use the correct dose, try to find a happy medium. If you keep chasing that high, someday you are going to chase it so hard you'll win in the race. Except chasing the high in this race just cost you your life!

Also don't even bother shooting up Methadone, you risk everything from ruining your veins to getting blood clots in your lungs and dying also abscesses etc.
The liquid (or pill for that matter) is not meant to be shot up. If you think you can suck the liquid into a syringe and shoot it up, you are going to be in a world of danger!!! It contains things that don't dissolve therefore it will end up depositing itself somewhere in your body, usually the veins in your lungs, which can in turn give you a pulmonary embolism which is fatal 40% of the time within 60minutes of having it.
The only things you should ever consider being put into your veins are pain medicines in vials that are manufactured for intravenous use! You'll never find these so just don't inject!
Methadone has 90% bioavailability, so injecting it won't make much of a difference. It does have a rush when injected, I won't lie. But it still comes on much much slower than hydromorphone. I've had proper IV methadone in a hospital, I did not shoot pills or syrup, that would be stupid! don't do it!
Use Methadone Orally for best results. Although you can plug it, or put it up your butt, but I've found it isn't as effective for me.
Sublingual use may be possible too but I haven't experimented with that since I take it orally as my doctor orders.
Be safe out there and remember this stuff stays in your system for a long long time and if you overdo it you will be out of order for 24-48 hours or DEAD!
NEVER double dose, thinking it isn't working unless you've waited 2 hours or so. If you are experienced with it, you know how long it takes to kick in, in your body and you can judge when to re-dose much better than someone who doesn't use it often. Always wait, it's much better than re-dosing 1 hour in and 20 mins later feeling the first dose hit you hard, and then 40 mins later the second dose hits you like a Mack Truck and kills you!
