I love the internet, to a degree some social media, and reaching out to other people online.

There are numerous challenges when it comes to the nature of entirely written communication. It can be hard to recognize sarcasm. It's also hard to recognize emotion. It gets infuriating when people get upset that people don't recognize sarcasm sometimes. There's always the /s but it can be challenging, still. Not everyone's perfect to recognizing sarcasm online, @sexyhardware6969.

When I talk I always usually say "Yeah" instead of "Yes." I know it sounds batshit but the es in "Yes" always sounds too harsh to me, so I tend to go the "yeah" route.

Also probably batshit: I try to use a ! when saying thanks. "Thanks." sounds muted, perfunctory, and sometimes dismissive, to me. "Thanks!" sounds passionate, etc.

Any thoughts on the challenges of communicating solely by text online?

Yup! Oh, where to start? Let's see, I have spent 18 years not understanding sarcasm in real life, while my own sarcasm often goes over other people's heads, and I frequently miss the simple everyday sarcasm that others use. Re: Autism :kewl:

Therefore, any form of written expression has always been a source of uncertainty and confusion for me. It's gotten better as I've aged and practiced my concise, clear tone, but sometimes even that can seem snooty. :slapping:

At this point I do my utmost to be clear, be it online or IRL... Is it frustrating for me? Eh, not anymore... The way I type reflects how I speak in person; I'm not shy about being myself. For example, my username is my actual name, which I used when I was too young to realize that sharing my full name here was a terrible idea.

But, I digress... Yes, it's hard...others still take offense. Oh, freaking well... I block, move on, scroll past, and engage in other similar actions. I dismiss it with a mixture of amused eye-rolling and a mental spit take, then proceed onward...

Also, being a keyboard warrior and a lazy sideline commentator is easy and therefore not worth the energy to respond...because you can't fix willful ignorance/stupidity/or lack of care...:sarcasm:

They don't, so why should I waste my time typing a thoughtful reply they may ignore or respond to with an emoji? I'm too old for that crap...:headphones:
