Bluelighter
I showed this too LiquidPhil when he was visiting recently, and he thought they would be worthwhile to post. Thought I might try it.
Those that know me know I am fairly adept with words. They are, in fact, the only area of the fine arts wherein I operate with any talent.
Evenso, my strength has always been with prose and persuasive composition, not poetry. It wasn't until Scott came into my life, and I found myself overwhelmed with thoughts and emotions so much so that I had to write, that I felt like I had actually produced something that could truly be called poetry.
I still don't know how GOOD it is, but it at least feels real, and even now 2.5 years later, takes me back to those initial uncertain feelings.
Staring at your picture, I smile
Nothing much, just happy that I know you
Just enjoying the hope that I'll get to know you better
Just wondering if we will ever be in a picture together
Where we are smiling at each other
I'll weigh myself down with the worries of an uncertain future later
For now, I'll just stare at your smile
And picture a warm tomorrow
---------------
Your words read deeply, right to my anxious heart
I read them aloud, hearing them as I imagine your voice comforting me
It does, you know
Paper is such a safe ear for risky words
There is a dull ache that is not knowing if I will ever hear you utter the words you write
Yet I take comfort in my own guilt, that I too love more openly with pen in hand
Do you also covet my voice when you read my mind?
Or perhaps this is a consipiracy in which you and I are engaged
Each from our fortress creating the safety we both believe we need for this moment
For in agreeing to refuse the other the sounds of love
Do we not keep the hope of the promise alive?
That on a day not unlike any other we will stand together
Face to face with nothing left but to proclaim aloud these matters of the heart
And to emerge from such certain rapture joined and devoted
Never to walk cautiously in the safe darkness of our own creation again
------------------
There is nothing new under the sun, this is true
But there are so many new journeys yet to be travelled by you and I
Our roads may be paved and they may be rocky mud
But, remaining true and focused on where we want to be
All these journeys will bring us closer to one another
So do not fear when the day wanes and darkness overtakes our path
For the night forces us to truly trust each other
And this will test the strength of our devotion
And when the day dawns and finds us unwavering in our direction
The sunlight will reveal to you and I the awesome beauty of the journey
Our journey
------------------
Words that match the memories fail me
How can I describe the images that play deep within my heart?
Releasing feelings of warmth for which there is no language
Remembering each moment as though it was only a moment ago
The echo of your touch brings ecstacy anew
There aren't enough letters to spell out such things
Will my soul-birthed smile suffice?
Can you make due with the hot flush in my cheeks?
Do flashbacks that leave me breathless communicate what simple words never could?
That our time together carries me still
That you infiltrate the pores of my life with happiness
------------------
First Kiss
When the moment came I wandered aimlessly at the outer edge of helplesness
That twilight where desire and fear battle for the heart
My world was weak giving in to your strength and my world became you
I threw myself to the wind, not knowing
Falling or flying
I still can't say which it was
But I know you caught me as I landed in your embrace
And the dam broke against an ocean of utter fulfillment
My heart's desire desiring my heart
And I was lost and helpless still
And loving every moment
-------------------
I can't wait
Tonigh will be so special
All your thought and heart into a few hours
I promise to drink them in
Like the wine you took such care in choosing
Anticipation creates the mood
Candles and Jazz to keep it going
Just you and I with time finally on our side
As we write the script for this post-modern romance
One glassy gaze at a time
Glistening lips hold the hope for the midnight hour
When the plot shall surely thicken
And your embrace will usher in the Second Act
With the final curtain nowhere in sight
Time stands still for those with someplace special to be
But no particular place to go
To share such a moment in time with you, this night
Takes my breath away
--------------------
War without Words
What shall we say to this?
Is silent anger a sword or a shield?
Does it wound or protect?
War is the intent to harm
Love harms in spite of intent
And they say all is fair?
Are we generals or lovers?
Enemies or allies?
What has been for us a bed of roses
Do we now make a field of battle?
What is war if not the frustrated failure to hear and be heard?
This war-torn heart has seen enough to last a lifetime
So I lay down my sword and shield in the heat of this battle
I will neither attack nor defend any longer
And thus, this war will now end
For either you will crush me utterly
Or we will have peace.
