Just wondering if anyone has any experience detoxing off benzos using carisoprodol (SOMA). My girl has developed a nasty little 6mg/day xanax habit however, She is not really prone to seizures. I just filled 60 350mg somas today and am wondering if anyone can shed light on how best for her to use them. I am going to pickup a small script of 60 10mg diazepam tomorrow and am trying to develop a taper plan for her.

I've heard soma also acts on the same gaba receptors as benzos.. is this true?
I know soma gets metabolized into meprobamate (sp?) But only a small amount is actually produced..??

Please help guys. She needs to cut it out with the bars. For background info she's only been taking them for a month or two and has only developed true dependency in the past two weeks. She also shoots 32mg ~ of hydromorphone a day, give or take.

Thank u BL fam

... No, you cannot use carisoprodol as a substitute for benzodiazepines.

Are you sure she is truly physically dependent? It takes quite a while to devolop dependence to the GABAergics. Don't rid it, though; get the Valium, and make a taper plan

(and FYI, up to 50% of a carisoprodol dose converts to meprobamate. At higher doses, they are *almost* identical.

Thanks for the quick reply L. With such a fresh join date and massive amounts of *quality* posts, your intelligence is quickly having you becoming one of my favorite frequenters of OD. Keep doing what you do bro.

Also...yes, unfortunately I am sure She is now fully dependent. She's used them daily for about two months... sometimes very recklessly and increasing her dose weekly. I said 6mg but She had at least three days a week She probably does double that. 6Mg just keeps her at baseline (dosed throughout the day) and She is sleeping all the time. It is taking a toll on our relationship :( and making Her an emotional wreck with rebound anxiety and panic attacks. Even worse She is becoming and extremely dangerous driver and a very big threat to others on the road. I need to help her nip this in the bud now.

What would be the best way to use the soma? I was hoping that a decent, slightly-past therapeutic dose could help her need less diazepam, as they're only going to be 10mg each and I'm only getting 60. You think She should see a psych doc and get a larger dose? Is it doable with 60 10mgs??

It's doable, but she had to WANT TO QUIT. The problem with benzo's is they fuck you up, but you don't really realize you're fucked up.

But yes, with self control, and with you're support, it can be done.

However, it won't be easy. 6mg alprazolam = roughly 120mg diazepam for most people. If you're lucky, with incomplete cross tolerance, maybe 60-90mg.

But you see my point that 6mg alprazolam is a pretty large dose. And at low doses, diazepam will initially have an even shorter duration. But you CAN use carisoprodol, to help compensate for some of the CNS effects that will be absent from a lower dose. But I think it goes without saying to be very, very careful.

Are you looking for a taper? I can help you, but hopefully someone with more personal experience can chime in

(I have plenty of benzo experience, believe me, but I know others have/had dealt with years of physical dependence)

(And thanks so much, man, that means a lot :)

Benzos are sooooo much more fucking trouble than they're worth. Truly terrible to withdrawal from. Coming off 4mg/6hrs of ativan was the worst withdrawal experience I've ever had.. complete with seizure and all ;)

And yes, I'd love a taper plan. Things at my disposal:

120 800mg neurontin
60 10mg valium
~20 350MG soma (really don't wanna use more than that of my script for this. Minimal amount of neurontin would also be liked to be required :) )

Ok, I'm not as experienced with diazepam(I used clonazepam and lorazepam for my taper) but I'll give it a shot. Let me check something real quick.

Just remember, 600 mg diazepam= roughly 30mg alprazolam, so for her maybe a 5 day supply. So this won't be fun, but gabapentin and carisoprodol shall make it easier.

And you're a good man for helping her ;)

(Rapid taper, I presume??? Would it be ok to just get down to a very low, manageable dose, or better to jump off completely?

Here is a basic idea of how I'd go at it:

Day 1: 60mg(half of her current dose, roughly

Day2: 60mg
Day 3: 60mg
Day 4-5: 52.5mg
Day 6-7:45mg
Day 8-9:
37.5
Day 10-11 30mg
Day 12-14: 22.5
Day 15-16: 15mg
Day 17-18: 12.5
Day 19-20: 10mg
Day 21: 7.5mg
Day 22: 5mg
Day 23: 2.5mg

I believe this is a reasonable plan; as 2.5mg diazepam is

this is an interesting subject for me , luckily i havnt had physical addiction to benzos but a good friend of mine is currently hooked bigtime on them, for the last year or 2 he has been getting 40mg temazepam a day, 20mg diazepam, dont know exactly how much lyrica he is on but hes on that too, on top of that he buys benzos anywhere he can. he has tried to quit before and says he has seizures when he trys to go off them. personally i think the doctor that gave him this addiction in the first place is to blame. any suggestions for a user like this to try start coming off them? i would love to see him do it.. and be alive.

Thanks for trying to help guys, but I left the girl. Her addiction has now consumed her and was putting me in immediate danger. When that happens.. It's time to go. Risk VS reward VS your girl robbing dealers VS you leaving her ass out on the curb to taste a little serving size of life.

Somas didn't help her.

Son of a bitch!

Yeah, benzo's make people fucking insane. I've witnessed people close to me destroy themselves, as well.

Sorry, man.
